Research of Nd:LSB microchip laser (Nd:LSB 마이크로 칩 레이저 연구)

  • A new laser material, Nd:LSB $(Nd${3}:LaSc_3(BO_3)_4$, lanthanum scandium borate), of microchip type was grown by the Czochralski pulling method, and tested for optical and lasing properties. Nd:LSB, able to be highly doped with $Nd^{3+}$ ions while maintaining good optical, chemical, mechanical properties, was compared to another Nd-type laser material. The absorption and fluorescence spectra, and fluorescence lifetime were measured, and the crystal structure was analyzed. The lasing characteristics were investigated by using Ti:sapphire laser as a pumping light source.

  • The major glycoproteins of bovine gammaherpesvirus 4 (BoHV-4) are gB, gH, gM, gL, and gp180 with gB, gH, and gp180 being the most glycosylated. These glycoproteins participate in cell binding while some act as neutralization targets. Glycosylation of these envelope proteins may be involved in virion protection against neutralization by antibodies. In infected cattle, BoHV-4 induces an immune response characterized by low neutralizing antibody levels or an absence of such antibodies. Therefore, virus seroneutralization in vitro cannot always be easily demonstrated. The aim of this study was to evaluate the neutralizing capacity of 2 Argentine BoHV-4 strains and to associate those findings with the gene expression profiles of the major envelope glycoproteins. Expression of genes coding for the envelope glycoproteins occurred earlier in cells infected with isolate 10/154 than in cells infected with strain 07/435, demonstrating a distinct difference between the strains. Differences in serological response can be attributed to differences in the expression of antigenic proteins or to post-translational modifications that mask neutralizing epitopes. Strain 07/435 induced significantly high titers of neutralizing antibodies in several animal species in addition to bovines. The most relevant serological differences were observed in adult animals. This is the first comprehensive analysis of the expression kinetics of genes coding for BoHV-4 glycoproteins in 2 Argentine strains (genotypes 1 and 2). The results further elucidate the BoHV-4 life cycle and may also help determine the genetic variability of the strains circulating in Argentina.

Crystal Structure and Magnetic Properties of Iron Doped La-Sr-Mn-O (철을 미량 치환한 La-Sr-Mn-O의 결정학적 및 자기적 특성 연구)

  • The iron-doped perovskite La$_{0.67}$Sr$_{0.33}$Mn$_{0.99}$$^{57}$Fe$_{0.01}$O$_3$compound has been studied by x-ray diffraction, Mossbauer spectroscopy, and vibrating sample magnetometry. The single phase of the polycrystalline La$_{0.67}$Sr$_{0.33}$Mn$_{0.99}$$^{57}$Fe$_{0.01}$O$_3$powder has been prepared by a waterbased solgel method. Crystalline La$_{0.67}$Sr$_{0.33}$Mn$_{0.99}$$^{57}$Fe$_{0.01}$O$_3$was a rombohedral structure with lattice parameters a$_{0}$=5.480 $AA$, $alpha$=60.259$^{circ}$. Mossbauer spectra of La$_{0.67}$Sr$_{0.3}$/Mn$_{0.99}$$^{57}$Fe$_{0.01}$O$_3$have been taken at various temperatures ranging from 20 to 400 K. As the temperature increases toward the Curie temperature, T$_{c}$=375 K, the Mossbauer spectra show line broadening and the difference between the 1,6 and 3,4 linewidths is caused by the anisotropic hyperfine field fluctuation. The anisotropic field fluctuation of +H (P$_{+}$=0.80) is greater than -H (P$_{-}$=0.20). We calculated that the anisotropy energy was 124.01 erg/cm$^3$for T=150 K which is associated with the large line broadening.

Catalytic Combustion of Methane over Perovskite-Type Oxides

  • Methane combustion over perovskite-type oxides prepared using the malic acid method was investigated. To enhance the catalytic activity, the perovskite oxides were modified by the substitution of metal into their A or B site. In addition, the reaction conditions, such as the temperature, space velocity, and partial pressure of the methane were varied to understand their effect on the catalytic performance. With the LaCoO3-type catalyst, the partial substitution of Sr or Ba into site A enhanced the catalytic activity in the methane combustion. With the LaBO3(B=Co, Fe, Mn, Cu)-type catalyst, the catalytic activities were exhibited in the order of Co>Fe Mn>Cu. Futhermore, the partial substitution of Co into site B enhanced the catalytic activity, whereas an excess amount of Co decreased the activity. The surface area and catalytic activity of the perovskite catalysts prepared using the malic acid method showed higher values than those prepared using the solid reaction method. The catalytic activity was enhanced with decreased methane concentration and with a decrease in the space velocity.

  • The purpose of this paper is to make it easy to reproduce the Pattern and sewing technique of men's coat in 18th century. which are modified in order to be made readily available in Korean theatre costume. The investigation was performed in three steps. 1st, The papers and records about development and change of men's coats were reviewed. End; The whole process of the way how to make a typical 18th century men's coats were sewn. 3rd ; The modification or revision into the more simplified pattern using by CAD system and sewing technique were suggested in detail. The size of the pattern in the original one, which we chose for this research, was generally small. with the side line being moved back a little. Moreover, arm movements were severely restricted because of the small arm-hole. The problems of original pattern were corrected by making both front and back pattern snug and side line being moved to the front, and making arm-hole wider. In the sewing technique, the simple way how to use of Padding, inter-linings and linings and to create the most noticeable figure of 18th century men's coat. This article may help theatre costume production in Korean performing art.

  • The rare-earth oxides M2O3 (M=La, Pr, Gd) are good insulators due to their large band gap (3.9eV for Pr2O3, 5.6eV for Gd2O3), they have high dielectric constants (Gd2O3 K=16, La2O3 K=27, Pr2O3 K=26-30) and, compared to ZrO2 and HfO2, they have higher thermodynamic stability on silicon making them very attractive materials for high-K dielectric applications. Another attractive feature of some rare-earth oxides is their relatively close lattice match to that of silicon, offering the possibility of epitaxial growth and eliminating problems related to grain boundaries in polycrystalline films. Metal-organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) has been preferred to PVD methods because of the possibility of large area deposition, good composition control and excellent conformal step coverage. Herein we report on the synthesis of rare-earth oxide complexes with designed alkoxide and aminoalkoxide ligand. These novel complexes have been characterized by means of FT-IR, elemental analysis, and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA).

Improvement of Oxidation-resisting Characteristic for SOFC Interconnect Material by Use of Thin Film Coating (박막 코팅을 이용한 SOFC 분리판 재료의 내산화성 향상)

  • This study is focused on oxidation prevention of STS430, which is generally used as solid oxide fuel cell(SOFC) interconnect at intermediate operating temperatures with oxidation-proof coatings. Inconel, $La_{0.6}Sr_{0.4}CoO_3(LSCo)$ and $La_{0.6}Sr_{0.4}CoO_3(LSCr)$ were chosen as coating materials. Using a radio frequency magnetron sputtering method, each target material was deposited as thin film on STS430 and was analyzed to find out favorable conditions. In this study, LSCr-coated STS430 can reduce electrical resistance to 1/3 level, compared with uncoated STS430. Also, long-term durability test at $700^{\circ}C$ for 1000 hours tells that LSCr thin layer performs an important role to prohibit serious degradations. Superior oxidation-resistant characteristic of LSCr-coated STS430 is attributed to the inhibition of spinel structure formation such as $MnCr_2O_4$.

  • Sporulation-specific glucoamylase (SGA) gene was isolated from genomic library of Saccharomyces diastaticus 5114-9A by using glucoamylase non-producing mutant of S. diastaticus as a recipient. When the glucoamylase activities of culture supernatant, periplasmic, and intracellular fraction of cells transformed with hybrid plasmid containing SGA gene were measured, the highest activity was detected in culture supernatant. SGA produced by transformant and extracellular glucoamylase produced by S. diastaticus 5114-9A differed in enzyme characteristics such as optimum temperature, thermostability, and resistance to SDS and urea. But the characteristics of SGA produced by sporulating yeast cells and vegetatively growing transformants were identical.
