Ohmic contacts to p-type GaN for high brightness LED applications

  • GaN-related semiconductors are of great technological importance for the fabrication of optoelectronic devices, such as blue and ultra violet light emitting diodes (LEDs), laser diodes, and photo-detectors. One of the most important applications of GaN-based LEDs is solid-state lighting, which could replace incandescent bulbs and ultimately fluorescent lamps. For solid-state lighting applications, the achievement of high extraction efficiency in LED structures is essential. For flip-chip LEDs (FCLEDS), the formation of low resistance and high reflective p-GaN contact is crucial. So far, a wide variety of different methods have been employed to improve the ohmic properties of p-type contacts to GaN. For example, surface treatments using different chemical solutions have been successfully used to produce high-quality ohmic contacts, Metallization schemes, such as Ta/Ti contacts to p-GaN, were also investigated. For these contacts, the removal of hydrogen atoms from the Mg atoms doped n the GaN was argued to be responsible for low contact resistances.

Improvement of Color and Luminance Uniformity of the Edge-Lit Backlight Using the RGB LEDs

  • The effect of the M-window color mixing bar on the characteristics of color mixing and hot spots in the edge-lit backlight employing red (R), green (G), blue (G) light emitting diodes (LED) were studied in terms of the structure of the M-window color mixing bar. The rays from RGB LEDs entering the M-window bar were mixed by internal reflection and scattering inside the M-window bar so that the hot spots and color separation were minimized. The M-window bar was designed and fabricated and the simulation results are matched quite well to experimental data.

  • 유기 EL소자는 제작이 쉽고 휘도가 높아 CRT와 LED 대신 평판 디스플레이 패널의 광원으로써 많이 연구되어 지고 있으며, OLED 소자중 청색 OLED는 풀컬러 적용 어플리케이션에 적용할 수 있기 때문에 이에 대한 연구가 이루어 지고 있다. 본 연구에서는, 발광 소재로 PBD, Alq3를 사용하여 유기 EL 디바이스의 전기 발광 특성을 측정하였으며, 전류와 휘도는 전압과의 관계에서 알 수 있었고 휘도와 전류의 관계를 제시하였다.

  • A novel fiber optic solution is provided to efficiently mix visible colors. Full color synthesis was achieved utilizing a novel $3{\times}1$ hard polymer clad fiber (HPCF) coupler along with red, green and blue (RGB) light emitting diode (LED) primaries. Varying the intensities of RGB LEDs that are coupled to three input ports, the device rendered a full color with an ultra wide CIE color gamut. Potential applications in pica-projection displays and LED backlights will be discussed.

  • There is provided white light illumination system including a radiation source, a first luminescent material having a peak emission wavelength of about 575 to about 620 nm, a second luminescent material having a peak emission wavelength of about 495 to about 550 nm, which is different from the first luminescent material and a third luminescent material having a peak emission wavelength of about 420 to about 480 nm, which is different from the first and second luminescent materials. The LED may be a UV LED and the luminescent materials may be a blend of three phosphors. A human observer perceives the combination of the blue, green and red phosphor emissions as white light.

Highly Luminescent Multi-shell Structured InP Quantum Dot for White LEDs Application

  • So many groups have been researching the green quantum dots such as InP, InP/ZnS for overcoming the semiconductor nanoparticles composed with heavy metals like as Cd and Pb so on. In spite of much effort to keep up CdSe quantum dots, it does not reach the good properties compared with CdSe/ZnS quantum dots. This quantum dot has improved its properties through the generation of core/shell CdSe/ZnS structure or core/multi-shell structures like as CdSe/CdS/ZnS and CdSe/CdS/ CdZnS/ZnS. In this research, we try to synthesize the InP multi-shell structure by the successiveion layer absorption reaction (SILAR) in the one pot. The synthesized multi-shell structure has improved quantum yield and photo-stability. To generate white light, highly luminescent InP multi-shell quantum dots were mixed with yellow phosphor and integrated on the blue LED chip. This InP multi-shell improved red region of the LEDs and generated high CRI.

  • This work presents a novel lighting technology based on a YAG:$Ce^{3+}$ phosphor converter with micro line lenticular structure, to accompany an array of bare LED chips on a board. This technology is especially effective in TFT-LCD backlight applications as it offers the advantages of high light radiation efficiency, low color deviation, uniform luminance distribution and compact backlight thickness. Additionally, the proposed configuration is low-cost, can be manufactured quickly, and can be mass-produced economically.

백색 발광다이오드에서의 혼합 형광체 모델링 (Modeling of Mixed Phosphors in White Light Emitting Diode)

  • An optical model is proposed in the white LED using phosphor and LED chip. In this paper a new model that describes the absorption rate and quantum efficiency with increasing the mixing ratio of phosphor in silicone, and the allotment of the phosphor absorption optical power in the several phosphor mixing in the silicone. Single phosphor in silicone from the optical measurement data before and after molding, the solution to get the blue optical power and the phosphor emission optical power is proposed. By these solution the absorption rate and the quantum efficiency was obtained. The model with single phosphor mixing in the silicone the validity was confirmed.

콩기름 저장 중 휘발성분에 대한 LED와 형광등 광원 조사의 영향 (Effect of Light Emitting Diode and Fluorescent Light on Volatile Profiles of Soybean Oil during Storage)

  • 본 연구는 전자코를 이용하여 시판 콩기름의 휘발성분이 파장에 영향을 받는지 알아보고자 암실과 형광등 및 파장이 다른 LED 광원을 PE 용기에 조사하면서 12주 동안 변화되는 휘발성분의 패턴 변화를 분석하였다. 콩기름의 휘발성분의 변화는 저장기간동안 암실 처리구에서 가장 적고 천천히 일어났으며, 형광등 처리구에서 가장 크고 급격한 변화가 일어나는 것을 보여주었다. 저장 초기인 4주에는 형광등 처리구를 제외한 모든 처리구에서 미세한 변화가 일어났으며, 저장 12주에는 형광등 처리구 다음으로 파란색과 백색 LED 처리구에서 큰 변화를 보여준 반면 초록색 LED 처리구에서는 변화가 적었다. 파란색과 흰색 LED 처리구는 저장 12주째에서 급격한 휘발성분의 변화가 나타났다. 하지만 빨간색과 초록색 LED 조사 시에는 8주째에 급격한 휘발성분이 생성된 것에 비하여, 저장 12주째에는 휘발성분의 변화가 매우 감소하는 것을 보여주었다. 또한 초록색 LED 처리구에서 가장 적은 변화를 보였다. 이러한 결과를 토대로 볼 때 초록색 LED 광원에서 콩기름을 전시 판매하는 것이 바람직하며, 형광등과 파란색, 백색 LED 광원은 바람직하지 못한 것으로 판단된다. 또한, 전시 판매가 아니라면 암실에서 저장하는 것이 가장 바람직할 것으로 예상되는 바이다.

혼합 발광다이오드와 형광등에서 자란 적치마 상추의 생육 및 광 이용 효율 비교 (Comparison of Combined Light-emitting Diodes and Fluorescent Lamps for Growth and Light Use Efficiency of Red Leaf Lettuce)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 폐쇄형 식물생산시스템에서 세가지 혼합 LED와 형광등에서 자란 적치마 상추의 생육과 광이용효율을 비교하는 것이다. 18일간 육묘한 적치마상추묘를 적색(R, 655nm), 청색(B, 456nm), 녹색(G, 515nm), 백색(W, 456nm + 558nm)의 혼합 LED(R:B=8:2, R:W:B=8:1:1, R:G:B=8:1:1)와 형광등이 설치된 폐쇄형 식물생산시스템에 정식하였다. 형광등에서 자란 상추는 모든 LED 처리에 비해 유의적으로 높은 엽형지수를 보였다. 지상부와 지하부 생육에서 LED 처리간 유의적 차이를 보이지 않았으나, 모든 LED 처리가 형광등에 비해 약 34% 지상부 생체중의 증가를 유도시켰다. 한편, 정식 후 4주차에 형광등의 총 소비 전력은 145kW인 반면, LED 처리구들에서 형광등의 약 1/3배인 54kW를 나타냈다. LED 처리구들의 건물중에 대비한 광 이용 효율은 약 34mg/W였으며, 이는 형광등 보다 약 3.5배 높은 값이었다. 결론적으로, 본 연구는 식물 생산 시스템에서 적절한 조합의 LED 조사는 형광등에 비해 상추 생장을 증진시킬 수 있으며 추가적으로 에너지 절감을 통해 광이용효율도 극대화 할 수 있음을 보여주었다.
