Syngas, also known as synthesis gas, synthetic gas, or producer gas, is a combustible gas mixture generated when organic material (biomass) is heated in a gasifier with a limited airflow at a high temperature and elevated pressure. The present research was aimed at modifying the existing LPG engine generator for fully operated syngas. During this study, the designed gasifier-powered woodchip biomass was used for syngas production to generate power. A 6.0 kW LPG engine generator was modified and tested for operation on syngas. In the experiments, syngas and LPG fuels were tested as test fuels. For syngas production, 3 kg of dry woodchips were fed and burnt into the designed downdraft gasifier. The gasifier was connected to a blower coupled with a slider to help the air supply and control the ignition. The convection cooling system was connected to the syngas flow pipe for cooling the hot produce gas and filtering the impurities. For engine modification, a customized T-shaped flexible air/fuel mixture control device was designed for adjusting the correct stoichiometric air-fuel ratio ranging between 1:1.1 and 1.3 to match the combustion needs of the engine. The composition of produced syngas was analyzed using a gas analyzer and its composition was; 13~15 %, 10.2~13 %, 4.1~4.5 %, and 11.9~14.6 % for CO, H2, CH4, and CO2 respectively with a heating value range of 4.12~5.01 MJ/Nm3. The maximum peak power output generated from syngas and LPG was recorded using a clamp-on power meter and found to be 3,689 watts and 5,001 watts, respectively. The results found from the experiment show that the LPG engine generator operated on syngas can be adopted with a de-ration rate of 73.78 % compared to its regular operating fuel.
This study was conducted to develope the automatic insulation system which control inside temperature of the greenhouse. For this purpose, the double- wall greenhouse and system which could automatically supply and discharge styrene pellets were constructed and abrasion of the pellets, blower ability, insulating property, transmittance and shading effect were analyzed by the experiments. The results obtained from this study can be summarized as follows : 1. It took an hour and fifteen minutes to supply and discharge about 2㎥ pellets in the experimental greenhouse. However, it is possible to reduce the operation time by proper selection of the blower and exhaust port, and by proper control of the supply and return pipe. 2. It was founded that the indirect delivery way was more profitable than the direct one in the supply and return of pellets. 3. When the transmittance was measured between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., the average light transmissivity rate was 67%. 4. In winter nighttime, the inside temperature of the double- wall greenhouse with out the pellets was higher than the outside temperature by 3.4$^{\circ}C$ on an average. However, the inside temperature of the double - wall greenhouse with insulated area 73% was higher than the outside by one 6.6$^{\circ}C$ on an average, and the inside temperature of the greenhouse with insulated area 100% was higher than outside one by 13.5$^{\circ}C$ on an average. Therefore, it was proved that the insulating ability of the double - wall greenhouse in nighttime was excellent. 5. When the outside temperature was 36.9$^{\circ}C$ on an average, the inside temperature of the double- wail greenhouse with insulated area 100% was 3$0^{\circ}C$ on an average. As the inside temperature was lower than the outside one by 7$^{\circ}C$ on an average, we could know that the shading effects of the double- wall greenhouse were excellent in summer daytime.

A remote monitoring panel and control system was developed to control various valves and access control chambers, including gas shutoff valves used in CBR(Chemical, Biological and Radiological) facilities. The remote monitoring panel consisted of a main panel installed in the NBC (Nuclear, Biological and Chemical) control room and auxiliary panel installed in the clean room, and the size was divided into pure control and control including CCTV. This system can be monitored and controlled remotely according to the situation where an explosion door and gas barrier door can occur during war and during normal times. This system is divided into normal mode and war mode. In particular, it periodically senses the operation status of various valves, sensors, and filters in the CBR facilities to determine if each apparatus and equipment is in normal operation, and remotely alerts situation workers when repair or replacement is necessary. Damage due to the abnormal operation of each device in the situation can be prevented. This enables control of the blower, supply and exhaust damper, emergency generator, and coolant pump according to the state of shutoff valve and positive pressure valve in the occurrence of NBC, and prevents damage caused by abrupt inflow of conventional weapons and nuclear explosions.

Hi Air Korea and Hanwha ocean are currently developing an Onboard Carbon dioxide Capture System (OCCS) to absorb CO2 emitted from ship's engine using a sodium hydroxide(NaOH) solution, and converting the resulting salt into a solid form through a chemical reaction with calcium oxide (CaO). The system process involves the following steps; 1)The reaction of CO2 gas absorption in water, 2)The reaction between carbonic acid (H2CO3) and NaOH solution to produce carbonate or bicarbonate, and 3)The reaction between carbonate or bicarbonate and CaO to form calcium carbonate (CaCO3). And ultimately, the solid material, CaCO3, is separated and discharged using a separator. The OCCS has been installed on an ship and the test results have confirmed significant reduction effects of CO2 in the ship's exhaust gas. A portion of the exhaust gas emitted from the engine was transferred to the OCCS using a blower. The flow rate of the transferred gas ranged from 800 to 1384 m3/hr, and the CO2 concentration in the exhaust gas was 5.1 vol% for VLSFO, 3.7 vol% for LNG and a 12 wt% NaOH solution was used. The results showed a CO2 capture efficiency of approximately 42.5 to 64.1 vol% and the CO2 capture rate approximately 48.4 to 52.2kg/hr. Additionally, to assess the impact of the discharged CaCO3on the marine ecosystem, we conducted "marine ecotoxicity test" and performed Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis to evaluate the dispersion and dilution of the discharged effluent.
Recently, waste gas incineration is increasing due to strong environmental regulatory system in Korea. These incinerating facilities are usually connected with the top of the storage tank through pipeline and incinerate off gas with the flame. Therefore, the flame originated from these facilities is likely to move back into pipeline and might cause an explosion of the storage tank. Accordingly, the purpose of this study is to suggest the preventive measures and the way to improve the safety of these incineration systems through the cause analysis of a major industrial accident occurred in a acrylic acid manufacturing process in Korea. As a result of the study, the preventive measures are suggested as follows. (1) Air or inert gas inflow facilities should be well designed to dilute flammable gases into air or inert gas sufficiently before the blower is restarted in order to prevent the explosion (2) It is needed for the detonation-type flame arresters to be installed on the top of the storage tanks. (3) In case of using the deflagration-type flame arresters, it is necessary to install a rupture disk before the arresters, or blow off the flame outside tanks by connecting the tank top and the incinerator with hood-type pipe. (4) TDR should be installed to be restarted automatically after the momentary power failure.
The milling process is considered as causing one of the greatest grain losses among all the processes in rice post-production. Major source of grain losses in the rice milling is considered as the whitening process. This study was attempted to develop an abrasive-type whitener, the whitening chamber of which being supplied by jet-air evenly and continuously. To investigate the milling performance by the new whitener, three kind of emery-stone grit(#36, #41, and #46), and three levels of rotational speed of emery stone roller (950, 1070, and 1200 rpm) were tested. The jet-air abrasive-type whitener was also compared with the conventional abrasive-type having no jet-air blower in terms of their milling performance. In addition, the effect of different combinations of sequential uses of the abrasive- and friction-type whiteners on the milling performance was also experimentally evaluated. The results of this study are summarized as follows; 1. In general, the whitening system combined with the abrasive type whitener with jet-air supply, which was newly designed, and the existing jet-air friction type whiteners produces more milled- and head-rice by about 0.3% points and 2.8% points, respectively than the system combined with the existing abrasive type without the jet-air supply under the same operational conditions. The former also consumed less electricity by 0.024 KwH per 100kg of milled rice production and gave more milling capacity by about 35 kg/hr. As compared with the conventional whitening system consisting of jet-air friction type whiteners only, the former yielded more milled- and head-rice by 1.5% points and 4.4% points, respectively. 2. The abrasive roller having 46 grit emery was better than the roller having 36 grit in aspects of milling performance and machine efficiency, in general. 3. With regard to the effect of combination method of abrasive type and friction type whiteners, one pass in abrasive type plus three passes in friction type gave better milling performance and energy efficiency than the two passes in abrasive type plus two passes in friction type regardless of the designs of the emery stone rollers. 4. The increase in rotational speed of the emery stone roller from 950 rpm to 1200 rpm presented negative effects on milled and head-rice yields and machine efficiency, but slightly positive effect on milling capacity.
The remediation efficiency for a large scale petroleum-contaminated site was evaluated by using the Engineered Land-farming system which was consists of the following parameters; moisture & nutrient injector data, blower system, HDPE sheet and sump system. To enhance the degradation ability in the early stage, main nutrients such as nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) were adjusted for the site condition. As a result of the periodic tilling process, the concentration of contaminated soil was decreased to 348 mg/kg, which was lower than 500 mg/kg (regal standards) while satisfying remediation Efficiency of 82% (the maximum concentration of 1,893 mg/kg). The appropriate temperature range for an active operation was investigated between $28.9{\sim}35.6^{\circ}C$. For the contaminated soils having different initial concentration, the TPH (Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons) concentration was decreased evenly along with the CFU (Colony Forming Unit), moisture content and contaminant concentration after 38days of gratifying the legal standards of under 500 mg/kg.

In this paper, we carried out the basic design of 36 MTD natural gas BOG re-liquefaction system to recover the generated natural gas during performance test of LNG pump and natural gas compressor. The re-liquefaction process of natural gas is designed to have 1500 kg/h of liquefaction rate with reverse Brayton refrigeration cycle. With the designed process, the variation of liquefaction rate is calculated for various inlet conditions of feed gas. From results, the liquefaction rate is more sensitive for inlet temperature than gas composition. The specifications of equipments such as gas blower, natural gas compressor, cryogenic heat exchanger and nitrogen compander are determined on the basis of the designed process. The requirement of power consumption and cooling water are also determined through the basic design.
To modernize the conventional rice post production technology and reduce grain losses, a transition toward the wet-paddy threshing system has been strongly demanded. The head-feeding type thresher with pneumatic separation has been used dominantly for threshing dried-paddy, but some adverse effects in separation performance for threshing wet-paddy is encounterred. In order to solve the problems, the development of thresher with an additional oscillating sieve to the conventional pneumatic separation has been recommanded. This study was intended to evaluate the separating performance of thresher with oscillating sieve which was attached additionally to the conventional auto-thresher equipped with separation system of blower and suction fan. For different feed rates and rice varieties, wet-and dry-material were tested with threshers attached with and without oscillating sieve. Results of the study are summarized as follows: 1. When the feed rates were 480 and 640 kg/hr, there was no statistically significant difference in power reqirements between the threshers with and without an additional sieve device for both dry-and wet-threshing. However, when the feed rate was 960 kg/hr, power requirements of thresher without sieve were greater for wet-paddy threshing than the thresher with the additional sieve separator by about 20% points. 2. With additional oscillating sieve device, the ratios of total weights of whole grains including grains with branch let and damaged grains to the total output did not show statistical difference among the feed rates. However, with pneumatic separation the ratio was decreased as the level of feed rate increased. 3. The total amount of grains with branchlet (including broken panicle) increased with the moisture content. For both the wet-and dry-material threshing with the additional oscillating sieve, the percent of grains with branchlet to the total output decreased greatly as the feed rate increased. 4. The output of the damaged grains increased as moisture content decreased. Especially, for the dry-paddy threshing, the additional sieve separating device produced more damaged grains than the pneumatic separation at all feed rates. 5. Generally, for dry paddy threshing, the separating performance of the thresher with the additional sieve device was better at all feed rates, showing greater difference with increasing feed rates. 6. Separating losses were greater with the pneumatic than sieve separation for both the wet-and dry-threshing. 7. The overall comparison of separating performance of threshers tested with and without an additional sieve device showed that the former was more effective than the latter for the dry-material threshing. However, for the wet-paddy threshing, the separation performance with a sieve device was better than the pneumatic only when the feed rate was high.
The final goal of this research is to develop a botanical biofiltration system, which combines green interior, biofiltering, and automatic irrigation, which can purify indoor air pollutants according to indoor space and the size of biofilter. The biofilter used in this experiment was designed as an integral form of water metering pump, water tank, blower, humidifier, and multi-level planting space in order to be more suitable for indoor space utilization. This study was performed to compare indoor air quality between the space adjacent to a botanical biofilter and the space away from the biofilter (control) without generation of artificial indoor air pollutants, and to evaluate plant growth depending on multiple floors within the biofilter. Each concentration of indoor air pollutants such as TVOCs, monoxide, and dioxide in the space treated with the biofilter was lower than that of control. Dracaena sanderiana ‘Vitoria’ and Epipremnum aureum ‘N Joy’ also showed normal growth responses regardless of multiple floors within the biofilter. Hence, it was confirmed that the wall-typed botanical biofilter suitable for indoor plants was effective for indoor air purification.
