Characteristics of Performance for Centrifugal Blower with Different Outlet Geometries (토출구의 형상에 따른 원심 송풍기의 성능특성)

  • Comprehensive investigation on the outlet's geometric shapes of a centrifugal blower with higher inlet resistance than an atmospheric pressure is carried out for improvements of its performance. Most unwanted behaviors of such blower are pulsating flows because of unbalance between inflows and outflows in a scroll casing. In order to reduce this undesirable phenomenon a triump is made for both the shape of outlet duct and an accessory structure inserted in the outlet port of the blower. The modification on the shape is concerned with the contraction of cross sectional area and the attached structure is for an intentional obstruction to cause a flow resistance. The details of the modification are examined for different cases and results. The methodologies for the work are performance evaluations including noise level and velocity measurements with PIV Consequently, the performance of improved system is close to that of the system operating with atmospheric pressure at the inlet.

The Noise Reduction of Industrial Blower Using Buff Shapes in Silencer (소음기내의 버프 형상을 이용한 산업용 송풍기의 소음저감)

  • The noise of an running industrial fan or blower depends on the type of a fan, the machining accuracy and assembled conditions of each element, and buffs. Many studies have been carried out to reduce the noise through silencer in blower. In this study, 3 types of buffs which have different hole are employed in pipe of blower to study the influence the number and arrangement of buffs on the noise reduction at inlet and outlet in pipe. Commercial engineering software ANSYS was employed to analyze the characteristics and reduction ratio of pressure. Experimental results shows that optimal one can reduce the reduction ratio of noise as much as 16 percents in the laboratory. Good agreement was found between the analysed ratio of noise reduction and those obtained from the experiments.

  • The ballast or other objects may be located on the rail road by a lump of ice, repairing operation on the track, or the strong gust due to the high speed running of the train. When a train operated in this condition, it causes serious damages to the wheel, train, and structures near the track, or the secondary ballast flying. To remove these objects safely, a ballast blower is suggested which was attached under the train. Firstly, the numerical analyses are investigated to find out the basic flow characteristics of the ballast blower. Next, the performance of the ballast blower is verified by wind tunnel experiments. Through these studies, it is expected that the ballast blower can be applied practically.

  • A turbo blower, driven by a high-speed blushless DC motor, was designed as a efficient substitute of a ring blower or a roots blower. Computational analysis and performance tests have been performed to investigate performance characteristics of the blower. Experimental measurements showed that the blower has a good stability margin. This paper gives an outline of design, computational flow analysis and performance test for aerodynamic evaluation of the variable speed turboblower.

  • Many recent development activities suggest the possibility of a high-speed turbo(centrifugal) compressor or blower for the industrial application of compressed air supplying system when used with the most advanced high-speed motor, inverter technology, and advanced bearing for high rotational speed. The problems to be overcome are of reliability, the application of mass production methods, cost effective manufacture and competitive running costs. This presentation is not focused on a specific technology advances but on an overall review of our recent experiences while we have developed the high pressure turbo blower for the commercial purpose.

  • This study is concerned with effects of impeller blade thickness on performance of a turbo blower. This turbo blower is developed as an air supply system in 250 kW MCFC system. The turbo blower consists of an impeller, two vaneless diffusers, a vaned diffuser and a volute. The three dimensional, steady state numerical analysis is simultaneously conducted for the impeller, diffuser and volute to investigate the performance of total system. To consider the non-uniform condition in volute inlet due to volute tongue, full diffuser passages are included in the calculation. The results of numerical analysis are validated with experimental results of thin blade thickness. Total pressure ratio, efficiency, slip factor and blade loading are compared in two cases. The slip factor is different in two cases and the comparison of two cases shows a good performance in thin blade thickness in all aspects.

  • A centrifugal turbo blower of the fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) operates at very high speed above 30000 rpm in order to increase the pressure of the air, which supplied to a stack of FCEV, using rotation of its impeller blades. Vibration which originated from the blower is generated by unbalance of mechanical components, rotation of bearings and rotating asymmetry that rotate at high speed. The vibration is transmitted to receiving structure through vibration isolators and it can causes serious problems in the noise, vibration and harshness(NVH) performance. Thus, the study about reducing this kind of vibration is an important task. In this paper, dynamic analysis of the blower executed by numerical simulation and experimental analysis of the blower is also performed. Then, measured and simulated results are compared in order to validate of the simulation. Finally, reducing vibration through modifying mount stiffness is the main purpose of this paper.

  • The outlet flow of the centrifugal blower were quantitatively visualized using particle image velocimetry. Because the centrifugal blower is one of the key parts of electric vehicle battery cooling system, the quantitative information of centrifugal blower is necessary to design and optimize the cooling system. The effect of different inlet flow condition to the outlet flow was investigated in this study. Two different inlet ducts were used. One is the straight inlet and the other is a bended one. The results clearly showed the outlet flow asymmetry in both inlet ducts. When the blower has the bended inlet, the flow rate decreases due to the increase of the head loss.

  • Air Management System is composed by Pump, Fan, Compressor and Blower In general their performances depend on the capability of the motor, power converter device and controller. Especially, it should be noticed upon designing Air Management System using for Fuel Cell System, that Pump, Fan, Compressor and Blower satisfy the condition of the high performance, high efficiency, high density and reasonable price considering the safety and Economic Efficiency. In order for this, it should be studied that which kind of Motor is the most suited for Air Management System for Fuel Cell, such as Induction Motor, Brushless DC Motor, and Switched Reluctance Motor which is widely using in industry. This paper presents the designing and manufacturing of Outer Rotor Type BLDC Motor and Driver for Air Blower of Air Management System. Experimental results from a laboratory prototype arc presented to validate the feasibility of the proposed Air Blower Motor and Driver.

  • I.G.G is abbreviation for Inert Gas Generator, High temperature in Cargo Tank it desulfurize, exhausted and froze the gas that combined brimstone element and soot, then supply Inert gas by blower, and mack tank inside incombustible range this is equipment that nip in the bud the explosion. The blower for suppling inactivated gas has big impeller with heavy weight to achieve the high pressure, it causes a delay for first operation time and too much load is delivered to motor, total destruction by fire of motor is happening frequently. On this research, we will reduce the size & weight of impeller and install it with several stage, it makes an effect for reducing the first operation time. We also intend to contribute to efficient IGG blower design by research a flowing & pressure specialty from the diameter of impeller, number of blade, and size of casing.
