The true heartache is a condition of severe heartache corresponding to angina pectoris, as recorded from Hwang Jae Nai Kyung. According to the literatural study of true heartache, some results can be acquired, such as follows. 1. The site of the true Heartache, can be divided into two categories, first, its superficial and conscious area is the chest as same as the other heartache. But its inner lesion is the Heart-Meridian as others occupied at the Pericardium-Meridian in stead of the Heart-Meridian. 2. The etiological classification of true heartache, are Cold-evil, Heat-evil, Wind-evil, Blood stasis etc. But its major factor is Cold-evil, more than anything else. 3. The symptomatic signs of true heartache, consist of cyanotic change from hands and feet to phalanges; severe heartache pale complexion with cold breathing and its extreme state can manifestate unceased sweating called as Yang exhaustion.

Rhus Verniciflua Stokes has been used for long history to treat blood stasis and cancer in Oriental Medicine. But urushiol, a constituent of Rhus Verniciflua Stokes has T-cell mediated allergic reaction, so it has made clinical limitation. Nexia is allergen removed extract of Rhus Verniciflua Stokes and its extraction process as well as quality control is needed to be standardized. The optimized extraction condition is as follow; temperature is $90{\sim}95^{\circ}C$, volume of slovent 10 times, extraction time >6 hours, pressure $, slovnet water or EtOH(60%), yield 8.1${\sim}$9.8(w/w). HPLC pattern and isolation study showed Nexia contain fisetin(>13.0%), fustin(>7.0%) and no urushiol.

This is the first case report about oral mucoceles treated with traditional Korean medication in Korea. One case of Blandin-Nuhn mucocele and two cases of ranula were treated with Ondam-tang and Dohongsamul-tang respectively. No recurrence of ranula was found for 30 months in one case and 3 months in other recent case. According to this result, we suppose that consideration of "Blood stasis and heat" might be helpful to treat progressed or large mucoceles while common mucoceles are generally regarded as results of "Phlegm heat". We suggest that traditional Korean medication can be an alternative to preserve salivary glands and to minimize complications of surgery. Further studies with more cases and longer observation period should be performed to establish proper prescriptions for oral mucocele and the evidence of treatment rate and recurrence rate.

Objective : The purpose of this study is to report the improvement after the acupuncture therapy and herbal medicine about a patient who has latrogenic Cushing with steroid induced myopathy and compression fracture of L-spine. Methods : We treated the patient with Neutral Blood Stasis herbal acupuncture, acupuncture therapy and herbal medication. Results : We have experienced one case of latrogenic Cushing syndrome with steroid induced myopathy and compression fracture of L-spine. This case improved significantly through acupuncture and herbal medication treatment. Conclusions : This study suggests manual acupuncture therapy and herbal medication is effective for the improvement of latrogenic Cushing syndrome with steroid induced myopathy and compression fracture of L-spine.

In Korea, Rhus verniciflua Stokes is used to purge hardness, alleviate blood stasis, and treat cancer. However, the mechanisms of related anti-cancer activity are not fully understood in human cancer cells. This study investigated the anti-cancer effects and mechanisms of Rhus verniciflua Stokes on MDA-MB-231 human breast cancer cells and found that treatment with a Rhus verniciflua Stokes extract resulted in time- and concentration-responses that indicated growth inhibition of breast cancer cells by induced apoptosis. This was followed by a decrease in mitochondrial membrane potential; the activation of caspase-3, -8, and -9; and the up-regulation of tBid. Caspase-dependent apoptosis was induced through the inhibition of phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K) and the Akt signaling pathway. This study provides evidence that Rhus verniciflua Stokes might be useful for the treatment of breast cancer.

Lindera obtusiloba has been used in traditional herbal medicine for the treatment of blood stasis and inflammation. The leaves of Lindera obtusiloba have been reported to exhibit various physiological activities. However, there is little information available on their antiplatelet and antithrombotic activities. Thus, the present study aimed to evaluate the effect of Lindera obtusiloba leaf extract (LLE) on platelet activities, coagulation and thromboembolism. In a platelet aggregation study, LLE significantly inhibited various agonist-induced platelet aggregations in vitro and ex vivo. Furthermore, LLE significantly inhibited collagen-induced thromboxane A2 (TXA2) production in rat platelets. In addition, oral administration of LLE was protective in a mouse model of pulmonary thromboembolism induced by intravenous injection of a mixture of collagen and epinephrine. Interestingly, LLE did not significantly alter prothrombin time (PT) and activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT). This study indicates that the antithrombotic effects of LLE might be due to its antiplatelet activities rather than anticoagulation. Taken together, these results suggest that LLE may be a candidate preventive and therapeutic agent in cardiovascular diseases associated with platelet hyperactivity.

Spatholobus Suberectus dunn. has been applied to blood stasis in oriental medicine. We selected one potent ethyl acetate subfraction-2 from Spatholobus Suberectus Dunn.(SSD) from anti-metastasis screening. It exerted the cytotoxicity against HT1080 and B16BL6 with the IC50 of 60 ug/ml and also significantly inhibited tumor cell induced platelet aggregation (TCIPA). It effectively didn't inhibit cell adhesion of HT1080 to matrigel coated wells, while it inhibited the cell invasion of HT1080 at the doses of 10, 20, 40 μg/ml by Boyden chamber assay. It effectively suppressed lung metastasis by B16BL6 melanoma in C57BL6 mice. These results indicate that the EtOAc subfraction-2 of Spatholobus Suberectus Dunn. can be applied to caner treatment with anti-metastatic activity.

This study was undertaken to clinically inspect the accuracy of DSOM-diagnosis System of Oriental Medicine, which were used for the object diagnosis of oriental medicine in the dept. of oriental OB&GY, oriental medical hospital of Dong-Eui University- about uterus myoma patients. We analyzed the prescription and consequence of diagnosis about 16 patients -who had uterus myoma, were treated more than one month, were improved in myoma size, dysmenorrhea, menorrhagia- in the oriental medical hospital of Dong-Eui University from January to December 2004. The calculation consequence of disease mechanism was as follows. The stagnation of Ki(氣滯), liver(肝), heart.(心) was 10 patients 71.4%, some deficiency(虛證), wet syndrome(濕), cold syndrome(寒) was 9 patients 64.3%, blood stasis(血奈) was 8 patients 57.1%. The agreement of consequence about DSOM and diagnosis was 13 patients, 92.9%.

This study was performed to report the effect of coffee enema among detoxification Therapy on atherosclerosis. Russian patient was treated by coffee enema, acupuncture, herbal medicines, exercise, cupping, korean physical therapy, chuna manipulation treatment and moxibustion. The state of patient was measured by Infrared Thermography, Blood Vessel Stasis Test and Minnesota Nicotine Withdrawal Scale. After treatments, both feet temperature were increased. And index of indicating the occlusion of the lower body was improved. Also, Minnesota Nicotine Withdrawal Scale scores were improved. It means the patient was successful at non-smoking during hospitalization. These results suggests that atherosclerosis was improved. According to above results, coffee enema was effective to improve the atherosclerosis. More studies should be followed.

Caesalpinia sappan (C. sappan) is a medicinal plant used for promoting blood circulation and removing stasis. During a screening procedure on medicinal plants, the ethylacetate extract of the lignum of C. sappan (CLE) showed inhibitory activity on arginase which has recently been reported as a novel therapeutic target for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases such as atherosclerosis. CLE inhibited arginase II activity prepared from kidney lysate in a dose-dependent manner. In HUVECs, inhibition of arginase activity by CLE reciprocally increased NOx production through enhancement of eNOS dimer stability without any significant changes in the protein levels of eNOS and arginase II expression. Furthermore, CLE-dependent arginase inhibition resulted in increase of NO generation and decrease of superoxide production on endothelium of isolated mice aorta. These results indicate that CLE augments NO production on endothelium through inhibition of arginase activity, and may imply their usefulness for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases associated with endothelial dysfunction.
