We have developed a simple and accurate strip test that measures the blood glucose level semiquantitatively by visual observation, or qualitatively by using UltraScan spectrocolorimeter. The strip has solid phase reagents, including glucose oxidase, peroxidase, chromogen, affixed to a plastic support. The strip test is capable of measuring blood glucose level in the range of 0∼800 mg/dl and generating the results within 2 to 3 minutes. Human blood specimens obtained from normal individuals and the diabetic patients were evaluated by the new blood glucose strip and by the kit supplied by other commercial products. The test results exhibit the correlation coefficient of 0.964. The new test strip is proven simple and accurate, and it offers an alternative to the commercially available glucose tests.

This study was carried out to investigate the supplementary effects of ${\gamma}$-oryzanol on the blood glucose level in diabetic mice. We supplied 2 experimental diets (CO without and GO with 0.2% ${\gamma}$-oryzanol) to diabetic mice for 8 weeks. Diet intake, body weight and levels of blood glucose, hemoglobin $A_{lc}$ and insulin were measured. Though there was no significant difference in diet intake between experimental groups, the concentration of fasting blood glucose and blood glucose area from glucose tolerance test in diabetic mice was lower in GO group than CO group during the supplementary period of experimental diets. Hemoglobin Ai, was lower and serum insulin level was higher in GO group than CO group without significance. These results suggest that r-oryzanol decrease the blood glucose level, and ${\gamma}$ -oryzanol produced from residual product of rice may be developed with high value.
This study was performed to compare nutrient intake, bone density, total cholesterol and blood glucose in women who lived in Taegu city. The number of subjects participated in the study was 89 and they were classified into 3 groups by age. 30.3% of the subject were in their 20-34 years of age, 37.1% were in their 35~49 years of age and 32.6% were above fifty. A dietary record method was used to assess the nutritional intake of subjects. Anthropometric measurement such as body weight, height and WHR, and blood pressure, blood glucose, cholesterol and BMD were measured. The results were as follows, mean weight, WHR, SBP, and blood glucose and total cholesterol of the subjects above 50 years old were significantly higher than those of 20-49 years of age(p<0.05). Mean bone density in calcaneus of subjects aged above fifty was lower than those of under 49 years of age(p<0.05). Weight, BMI, waist circumference, WHR and SBP were positively correlated with age(p<0.01). WHR and body fat were positively correlated with BMI(p<0.01). Waist circumference was positively correlated with SBP(p<0.01). Bone mineral density was negatively correlated with age and SBP(p<0.01). Also BMD was positively correlated with weight(p<0.05). Energy intakes was positively correlated with bone mineral density(p<0.05). Fat intakes was negatively correlated with SBP and blood glucose(p<0.05). Calcium intakes was negatively correlated with SBP(p<0.05). Ca/P ratio was negatively correlated with age(p<0.05) and WHR(p<0.01). Zinc intakes was negatively correlated with SBP and blood glucose(p<0.05). From the findings, it is suggested that the women after menopause keep the optimum body weight and good eating habits. Especially intake of good quality protein, calcium and carbohydrate seemed to be important.
This study was conducted to determine effects of salinomycin (SL) on feeding-induced changes in glucose kinetics and blood VFA concentrations in sheep fed a high-roughage diet. Four sheep were fed the diet with or without 20 mg/kg diet of SL once daily for 21 d. Glucose entry and utilization rates were determined during the prefeeding and 3 h postfeeding periods, using a [$^{13}C_6$]glucose dilution method and non-steady state equations. Ruminal characteristics and concentrations of blood VFA, plasma glucose and insulin were also measured during the same periods. A feeding-induced increase in ruminal total VFA concentration tended to be inhibited (p<0.10) with SL, although ruminal pH was unaffected (p>0.10) with SL or by feeding. Salinomycin decreased (p<0.05) acetate proportion and increased (p<0.05) propionate proportion in the rumen, but did not modify these changes in response to feeding (p>0.10). A feeding-induced increase in blood acetate concentration was attenuated (p<0.05) with SL. Salinomycin tended to increase (p<0.10) blood propionate concentration without modifying its response patterns to feeding (p>0.10). Plasma concentrations of glucose or insulin were unaffected (p>0.10) with SL. Salinomycin tended to enhance (p<0.10) glucose entry and utilization rates. Feeding also enhanced (p<0.01) both rates, whereas their interactive effect was not detected (p>0.10). We conclude that SL possibly enhances whole body glucose entry and utilization with an increase in blood propionate concentration in sheep given a high-roughage diet, although SL does not appear to affect their responses to feeding.
In modern society, awareness of diabetes is growing with an increase in the elderly population and an increase in the incidence of diabetes. In particular, diabetic patients can suddenly develop hypoglycemic shock; therefore, it is important to measure blood glucose periodically. However, self-monitoring blood glucose meters are difficult to carry and it is difficult to manage the value. To solve these problems, the blood glucose measurement system has been developed as a sensor attached to the body or as one of the functions of smart devices, but it has not been commercialized. In this paper, we propose a smart band with a blood glucose measurement function. If a user enters a schedule to measure blood glucose level, such as before/after meals, in the app, he/she can receive a measurement alarm from the band. The user can measure the blood glucose level at any time using the band, and the measured value is transmitted and managed by the app including behavior history such as before/after meals and the time. This will help the user to manage, diagnose and prevent health problems. The system has been tested using two medical device-certified products, and each blood glucose measurement value has been confirmed to be more accurate.
In diabetics, daily blood glucose testing is generally required at home, and thus, performing blood collection several times a day using a blood line is essential. Blood collection in the home and in the hospital is a source of pain and is the second most common cause of infection. In blood collecting device generally consists of four major parts: inner-case, outer case, main shaft and triger, and the most import part among those for necessary functionality is the main shaft. Filling time and injection pressure, filling balance, strain-rate analysis of change based on availability of the product. The Moldflow of FEM simulation is used for the analysis of injection molding process. In this study, aims to create a technique for injection molding and manufacturing of a main shaft of a high-performance blood-collecting apparatus capable of automatically extracting a lancet to relieve pain through depth control of the lancet.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effects of ultraviolet blood irradiation on the blood when a low dose of ultraviolet (UV) C is directly irradiated to the blood in a diabetic rabbit model and to evaluate the effects on treatment for diabetes. This study results indicate that the reduced body weight is increased and blood glucose levels are significantly reduced after the UBI treatment is performed when compared to those prior to the UBI treatment. In addition, $HCO_3{^-}$ levels and blood pH were elevated and lowered, respectively. When the UBI treatment is performed in a diabetic rabbit model, in this result indicate that blood glucose levels are reduced.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of acute forest walking exercise on blood glucose of IGT (impaired glucose tolerance), NIDDM (non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus) in the elderly. There were four groups (n=60): forest walking exercise with IGT group (n=15; $66.21{\pm}4.16$ yrs), forest walking exercise with NIDDM group (n=15; $64.85{\pm}3.23$ yrs), field walking exercise with IGT group (n=15; $67.44{\pm}1.78$ yrs), field walking exercise with NIDDM group (n=15; $65.55{\pm}8.21$ yrs). They were tested on blood glucose levels at the beginning and at the end of each walking exercise. While the forest walking groups (interval + resistance exercise) worked for 40minutes with HRmax 50~60% level, the field walking groups (only aerobic exercise) worked for 40 minutes with HRmax 50~60% level. For data analysis, mean and standard deviation scores were calculated, and paired t-test and ANCOVA test were used. This study resulted in as follows. First, both walking groups showed the significant decrease of blood glucose in impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) after completing each exercise. Second, while the forest walking group showed the significant decrease of blood glucose in insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) after completing the forest exercise, the field walking group did not present any decrease of blood glucose in NIDDM after the field walking exercise. Therefore, the present findings suggest that the forest walking exercise as an interval and resistance exercise may be more effective to decrease blood glucose for IGT and NIDDM peoples in comparison to the field walking exercise as an aerobic exercise.
A new type of diagnostic membranes based on methoxyethoxy and trifluoroethoxy co-substituted polyphosphazene has been prepared to measure blood glucose level of diabetics. Final absorbances at 680 nm through activated polyphosphazene membranes were measured at various concentration of glucose in plasma or blood. The end-point results of varing absorbance values as time (K/S) was found to have a linear relationship toward the blood glucose concentration. The effects of substitution rates with hydrophilic groups and hydrophobic groups on the measurements of glucose concentration were studied. Dose-response slope (DRS) values between glucose concentration and K/S values increased as the hydrophilic substitution rates increased. However, in more than 30% of the substitution rates, it was difficult to measure exact concentration level of glucose because DRS increased rapidly.
Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and cell wall protein-A (CWP-A) were extracted from the cell wall of Vibrio vulnificus, Escherichia coli and Salmonella typhimurium. LPSs and CWP-As were injected into rat and the changes of the following blood components were examined. The change of the number of white blood cell (WBC), red blood cell (RCB), platelet (PLT), blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and blood glucose in rat blood and interferon (IFN) activity change by LPS and CWP-A were measured. WBC, RETI, PTT, and BUN were increased and RBC and blood glucose were increased slightly, but PLT was decreased.
