  • Because of rapid growth of data size, the number of data storage has been increased. When using multiple data storages, a distribute file system is essential to insure the availability of data files. The power consumption is a major problem when using a distributed file system with many data storages. Previous works have aimed at reducing the energy consumption with efficient file block layout by changing some data servers into stand-by mode. The file block migration has not been seriously considered because migration causes large cost. But when we consider addition of a new data server or file, file block migration is needed. This paper formulates the minimization of data block migration as an ILP optimization problem and solves it using branch-and-bound method. Using this technique, we can maximize the number of stand-by data servers with the minimum number of file block movement. However, computation time of branch-and-bound method of an ILP optimization problem increases exponentially as the problem size grows. Therefore this paper also proposes a data block and data server grouping method to solve many small ILP problems.

  • In this paper, we propose a file system for flash memory which remedies shortcomings of existing flash memory file systems. Besides supporting large block size, the proposed file system reduces time in initializing file system significantly by adopting logical address comprised of erase block number and bitmap for pages in the block to find a page. The file system is suitable for embedded systems with limited main memory since it has small in-memory data structures. It also provides efficient management of obsolete blocks and free blocks, which contribute to the reduction of file update time. Finally the proposed file system can easily configure the maximum file size and file system size limits, which results in portability to emerging larger flash memories. By conducting performance evaluation studies, we show that the proposed file system can contribute to the performance improvement of embedded systems.

  • In smart home environment, certificate based signature technology is being studied by communication with Internet of Things(IoT) device. However, block - chain technology has attracted much attention because of the problems such as single - point error and management overhead of the trust server. Among them, Keyless Signature Infrastructure(KSI) provides integrity by configuring user authentication and global timestamp of distributed server into block chain by using hash-based one-time key. In this paper, we provide confidentiality by applying group key and key management based on multi - solution chain. In addition, we propose a smart home environment that can reduce the storage space by using Extended Merkle Tree and secure and efficient KSI-based authentication and communication with enhanced security strength.

  • NAND flash memory is a non-volatile memory that retains stored data even without power supply. Internal memory used as a data storage device and solid-state drive (SSD) is used in portable devices such as smartphones and digital cameras. However, NAND flash memory carries the risk of electric shock, which can cause errors during read/write operations, so use error correction codes to ensure reliability. It efficiently recovers bad block information, which is a defect in NAND flash memory. BBT (Bad Block Table) is configured to manage data to increase stability, and as a result of experimenting with the error correction code algorithm, the bit error rate per page unit of 4Mbytes memory was on average 0ppm, and 100ppm without error correction code. Through the error correction code algorithm, data stability and reliability can be improved.

  • In this paper, we propose the design and implementation of the storage-based data sharing system in the separate network environment to improve efficiency of data transmission. The previous system generates files per received packet and transmit files to another network through storage. This system causes inefficiency by reading unnecessary blocks, when it transmits a number of files through storage. Our proposed system deals with this inefficiency by adopting concept of snapshot. Consequently, we create one file with snapshot so that the number of files can be reduced and the file size can be optimized according to the block size. The proposed system improves the response time significantly with the minimized reading of unnecessary blocks, compared to the previous system.

  • The increasing demand in promoting cloud computing in either business or other areas requires more security of a cloud storage system. Traditional cloud storage systems fail to protect data integrity information (DII), when the interactive messages between the client and the data storage server are sniffed. To protect DII and support public verifiability, we propose a data integrity verification scheme by deploying a designated confirmer signature DCS as a building block. The DCS scheme strikes the balance between public verifiable signatures and zero-knowledge proofs which can address disputes between the cloud storage server and any user, whoever acting as a malicious player during the two-round verification. In addition, our verification scheme remains blockless and stateless, which is important in conducting a secure and efficient cryptosystem. We perform security analysis and performance evaluation on our scheme, and compared with the existing schemes, the results show that our scheme is more secure and efficient.

  • With the steady growth of mobile technology and applications, demand for more storage in mobile devices has also increased. A lightweight block-level protocol, Internet Advanced Technology Attachment (iATA), has been developed to deliver a cost-effective storage network solution for mobile devices to obtain more storage. This paper seeks to contribute to designing and implementing Load Balancing (LB), Network Monitoring (NM) and Write Replication (WR) modules to improve the protocol's scalability and data availability. LB and NM modules are invoked to collect system resources states and current network status at each associate node (server machine). A dynamic weight factor is calculated based on the collected information and sent to a referral server. The referral server is responsible to analyze and allocate the most ideal node with the least weight to serve the client. With this approach, the client can avoid connecting to a heavily loaded node that may cause delays in subsequent in-band I/O operations. Write replication is applied to the remaining nodes through a WR module by utilizing the Unison file synchronization program. A client initially connected to node IP A for write operations will have no hindrances in executing the relevant read operations at node IP B in new connections. In the worst case scenario of a node crashing, data remain recoverable from other functioning nodes. We have conducted several benchmark tests and our results are evaluated and verified in a later section.

  • Recently, the use of NAND flash memory is being increased as a secondary device to displace conventional magnetic disk. NAND flash memory, as one among non-volatile memories, has many advantages such as low power, high reliability, low access latency, and so on. However, NAND flash memory has disadvantages such as erase-before-write, unbalanced operation speed, and limited P/E cycles, unlike conventional magnetic disk. To solve these problems, NAND flash memory mainly adopted FTL (Flash Translation Layer). In particular, garbage collection technique in FTL tried to improve the system lifetime. However, previous garbage collection techniques have a sensitive property of the system lifetime according to write pattern. To solve this problem, we propose BSGC (Balanced Selection-based Garbage Collection) technique. BSGC efficiently selects a victim block using all intervals from the past information to the current information. In this work, SFL (Search First linked List), as the proposed block allocation policy, prolongs the system lifetime additionally. In our experiments, SFL and BSGC prolonged the system lifetime about 12.85% on average and reduced page migrations about 22.12% on average. Moreover, SFL and BSGC reduced the average response time of 16.88% on average.

  • This paper proposes a dynamic storage allocation algorithm, QHF(quick-half-fit) for real-time systems. The proposed algorithm manages a free block list per each worked size for memory requests of small size, and a free block list per each power of 2 size for memory requests of large size. This algorithms uses the exact-fit policy for small sie requests and provides high memory utilization. The proposed algorithm also has the time complexity O(I) and enables us to easily estimate the worst case execution time (WCET). In order to confirm efficiency of the proposed algorithm, we compare he memory utilization of proposed algorithm with that of half-fit and binary buddy system that have also time complexity O(I). The simulation result shows that the proposed algorithm guarantees the constant WCET regardless of the system memory size and provides lower fragmentation ratio and allocation failure ratio thant other two algorithms.

  • In this study, sulfonated PAES block copolymers have been synthesized via nucleophilic substitution reaction. Hydrophobic oligomer was prepared using 2,6-dihydroxynaphthalene and bis(4-chlorophenyl) sulfone, whereas hydrophilic oligomer was prepared using sulfonated bis(4-chlorophenyl) sulfone and bis(4-hydroxyphenyl) sulfone. The chemical structure of polymers was analyzed by $^1H$ NMR, FT-IR and GPC. The thermal properties of polymers were measured by TGA and DSC. The oxidative stability of membranes was investigated by Fenton's test. Furthermore, the proton conductivity of membrane was found to be 26 mS/cm at $90^{\circ}C$. All physiochemical properties suggest that fabricated membrane have a great potential for applications in PEMFC.
