  • A microstructure analysis is carried out to optimize the process parameters of a randomly oriented discrete length hybrid carbon fiber reinforced carbon matrix composite. The composite is fabricated by moulding of a slurry into a preform, followed by hot-pressing and carbonization. Heating rates of 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.5, 1, and $3.3^{\circ}C/min$ and pressures of 5, 10, 15, and 20 MPa are applied during hot-pressing. Matrix precursor to reinforcement weight ratios of 70:30, 50:50, and 30:70 are also considered. A microstructure analysis of the carbon/carbon compacts is performed for each variant. Higher heating rates give bloated compacts whereas low heating rates give bloating-free, fine microstructure compacts. The compacts fabricated at higher pressure have displayed side oozing of molten pitch and discrete length carbon fibers. The microstructure of the compacts fabricated at low pressure shows a lack of densification. The compacts with low matrix precursor to reinforcement weight ratios have insufficient bonding agent to bind the reinforcement whereas the higher matrix precursor to reinforcement weight ratio results in a plaster-like structure. Based on the microstructure analysis, a heating rate of $0.2^{\circ}C/min$, pressure of 15 MPa, and a matrix precursor to reinforcement ratio of 50:50 are found to be optimum w.r.t attaining bloating-free densification and processing time.

  • Sintering of alumina powder was studied in the presence of Y-Si oxide and oxynitride additives. The main crystalline phase of the sintering aids pre-reacted at $1400^{\circ}C$ was $\alpha$ - $Y_2$$SiO_2$>$O_7$. Y-N apatite was co-existed in the Si-40N sintering aid because of its high content of N. During the sintering process, liquid phases were formed by the reaction between additives and alumina, and these liquid phases promote the densification of alumina. SEM micrographs showed that uniform grain growth occurred in the system with oxide additive(Si-0N). In the case of oxynitride additive system(Si-20N and Si-40N), bimodal microstructure was observed due to the exaggerated grain growth, As the nitrogen content in the additive system increased the exaggerated grain growth occurred extensively. Bloating, which seemed to be originated by the liberation of $N_2$ gas, occurred un the Si-40N oxynitride additive system.

  • 1. Objectives Due to a lack of detail guidelines for prescriptions to ordinary and pathological symptoms in ${\ulcorner}$DongyiSuseBowon${\lrcorner}$, doctors depend on their own decision when give a prescription. This study aimed to compare ordinary symptoms and pathological symptoms in regards to six prescriptions being applied to Soyangin to utilize them as guidelines in practices. 2. Methods Date were collected from September, 2003 to August, 2004 at the Sasang Constitutional clinic of Pohang Oriental Medicine Hospital. Patients were first asked to fill Out a questionnaire of symptoms that they had at the time of visiting. Data from 273 Soyangin patients whose chief complains got alleviated after taking the prescribed drug were analyzed to examine if there were differences in prescriptions according to ordinary or pathological symptoms complained. 3. Results and Conclusions 1. Hyungbangpaedog-san(Paedog) was given more to the patients having good digestive function than Hyungbangjihwang-tang(Hyungji) and Hyungbangdojeok-san (Dojeok) ; Dojeok was given for bloating symptom compared to Hyungbangsabaek-san(Sabaek). Yangkyuksanhwa-tang(Yangkyuk) and Dojeok were more like for patients with stomachache compared to Paedog. Doghwaljihwang-tang(Dogji) was prescribed to patients complaining frequent voiding compared to Sabaek while Sabaek was given for patients who prefer cold water and feel their body warm compared to other prescriptions. Yangkyuk and Dojeok were prescribed more likely to patients with feeling of suffocation than Sabaek. 2. In symptom comparisons between one prescription and the group of the rest of 5 prescriptions, Paedog was found to be prescribed when patients had good digestive function while Dojeok was given in symptoms cases of indigestion, bloating, constipation and dizziness. Sabaek was applied more for patients having tendency of preferring cold water and feeling of heat body as well as good digestive function. Hyungji was used for patients complaining a symptom of fatigue, in addition Yangkyuk was given to patients who were nervous, sensitive, or impatient when compared to Other prescriptions. Dogji was applied to frequent voiding, insomnia, tingling of extremities, backache or leg pain, or in case of tendency of catching a common cold.

  • A 6-year-old female long-tailed goral (Naemorhedus caudatus, goral) was admitted to the Gangwon wildlife medical rescue center due to severe starvation and hypothermia. The goral displayed clinical signs of severe weight loss, dehydration, lethargy, regurgitation, hypothermia, and bloating, with blood tests showing a decrease in albumin, calcium, glucose, and sodium. Supportive care was given through heating, oxygen supply, and fluid therapy, but the goral's condition worsened, and the goral died three days after admission. Radiographic and computed tomography scans revealed the presence of an indigestible foreign body (IFB) in the rumen, which was confirmed during the necropsy. The cause of goral's death was identified as chronic rumen impaction caused by the IFB (a ball of string), with other pathological findings including bloating, the presence of serous ascites, and congestion of digestive organs. Blood biochemical changes, clinical signs, and veterinary medical imaging diagnosis can be helpful in diagnosing ruminal impaction. This case report can provide valuable information for the diagnosis and treatment of ruminal impaction caused by IFB in endangered gorals, which may include rumenotomy or other surgical procedures.

  • The carborundum abrasive specimens bonded with a soda-borosilicate glass were prepared. Samples fired at specified temperatures with various mixing ratio and forming pressure were examined in terms of the structure, bonding strength, and microscopic observations. Increasing the forming pressure up to 400kg/$\cm^2$, the structure became denser in proportion to the forming pressure. The bonding strength was generally increased with increasing the mixing ratio (Vb/Vg), but the bloating phenomena were observed when samples were fired above 95$0^{\circ}C$ with mixing ratio above 20%, consequently, the bonding strength was decreased. Samples fired at the temperature range 900~95$0^{\circ}C$ with mixing ratio 15~30% had the dense structure with various grades.

  • In this study, a new algorithm for canceling MRI artifacts through the translational motion of image plane is presented. Bloating is often makes problems in a clinical diagnosis. Assuming that the head moves up and down due to breathing, rigid translational motions in only y(phase encoding axis) direction is treated. First, we notice that the x directional motion corresponds to a shift of the x directional spectrum of the MRI signal, and the non zero area of the spectrum just corresponds to x axis projected area of the density function. So the motion is estimated by tracing the edges of the spectrum, and the x directional motion is canceled by shifting the spectrum in inverse direction. Next, the y directional motion is canceled using a new constraint, with which the motion component and the true image component can be separated. Finally, the effectiveness of this algorithm is shown by using a phantom with simulated motions.

  • This paper deals with the clay-bonded silicon carbide refractory saggars in terms of its oxidation resistance. Oxidation is one of the major causes of failure in silicon carbide refractory saggars during its services. Various anti-oxidation additives are coated on or added into silicon carbide refractories and their effects are studied while other conditions are equal. Several conclusions can be derived for optimum anti-oxidation additive as: 1. The additive should wet each silicon carbide grain completely during its firing. 2. The additive should have high viscosity at temperatures around $1, 350^{\circ}C$ where most silicon carbide refractory saggars are being used. 3. The additive should have ability to absorb or desorb oxygen depending on the local atmosphere inside of saggar during it service. 4. The addition should be kept as minimum as possible to prevent any "sweating" or "bloating" phenomena.ing" phenomena.mena.
