  • In order to decide critical vibration level on structural damages induced by near blasting, deformation of existing cracks in structure was investigated and ground vibrations were measured. New criteria to evaluate blasting damage to structure are proposed considering daily deformation of cracks in structures. Results from 2 brick houses in fishing village show that new design criteria far more than current are required to cause structural damage for brick houses.

  • In this study, quantitative ground vibration values and damping coefficient produced by underwater blasting were measured and analyzed. Also, hydrospace noise in aquafarm and noise in atmosphere as well as ground vibrations were measured, and maximum values of these results were 86,8 dB(A), 147,8dB(A), 0.244 cm/s, respectively, With these results, vibration influence about snakehead (channa argus) and structures were examined. the damage of those was proved that is not. Equations of vibration ($V_{50%}=1.507SD^{-0.536},\;V_{95%}=2,171SD^{-0.536}$) and hydrospace noise ($SL=293.2SD^{-0.164}$) were presented from quantitative experiment results. respectively. The results of the study may be applied for the evaluation of the influence on aquafarm as a basic data before having main underwater blasting at construction sites.

  • Rock fragmentation with plasma blasting technique has advantageous properties in contrast to the conventional blasting method in controlling of flying rocks and ground vibrations, when residents are complaining or surrounding structures stay in protection from blasting operations. The experiences show in urban construction works that the plasma blasting is the most possible method to prevent damages and minimize adverse environmnetal impacts. The fragmentation energy level is evaluated by numerical simulation using PFC-2D for various drill hole pattern and tested accordingly to get the feasibility. The energy output of plasma blasting system has been improved to a level of 1 MJ, which can break a 2~3 ㎥ granite boulder or 1.5 m height bench face. Measurements are carried out to get the ground vibration level and propagation equation, so that the control of the blasting operations can be performed more precisely and safely.

  • The blast works for open cuts and underground constructions near urban areas have recently increased complaint of ground vibration, air blast and fly rock. In order to reduce these problems, it is necessary to develop more cautious blasting, or non-blast excavation methods by mechanical power. For these breaker workings instead of blast are sometimes adopted. To compare the characteristics of blast vibration with breaker vibration, the level, range of frequency and spectrum amplifications of each vibration were studied.

  • Due to civil complaints on vibrations and noises arising from blasting, mechanical excavation has been widely used for tunneling rather than the method of blasting, especially in the case of being in a close-proximity of 10M-20M range to a safety-thing. However, mechanical excavation, though less, it does increase the cost of whole construction project as the period of excavation is much prolonged from lack of constructability. This study aims to research and develop an effective blasting method that can ensure the constructability of shortened excavation period whilst not compromising the safety of the safety-things in a proximity to the blasting site by using a combination of an electronic detonator that can accurately control its delay period and a Low Vibration Explosives(LoVEX) that is effective on vibration control.

  • Recently, the utilization of underground space for research facilities and resource development has been on the rise, expanding development from shallow to deep underground. The establishment of deep underground spaces necessitates a thorough examination of rock stability under conditions of elevated stress and temperature. In instances of greater depth, the stability is influenced not only by the geological structure and discontinuity of rock but also by the propagation of ground vibrations resulting from earthquakes and rock blasting during excavation, causing stress changes in the underground cavity and impacting rock stability. In terms of blasting engineering, empirical regression models and numerical analysis methods are used to predict ground vibration through statistical regression analysis based on measured data. In this study, single-hole blasting was conducted, and the pressure of the blast hole and observation hole and ground vibration were measured. Based on the experimental results, the blast pressure blasting vibration at a distance, and the response characteristics of the tunnel floor, side walls, and ceiling were analyzed.

  • As the quality of life is being upgraded, the public complaints about noise and vibration from construction sites are growing. Despite the disputes over the blasting damage on aquatic lives in river, ocean, and aquarium near construction sites tend to increase, most of existing solutions or regulations on the damages caused by blasting are established for the damages on land. Although the estimated amount of damage is up to several millions of USD, there is no guideline for resolving the dispute related to the underwater vibration. This paper presents an example where the public grievance about the underwater noise was successfully resolved by elucidating the characteristics of underwater sound, deducing the correlations between ground vibration and underwater sound during blast, and predicting the underwater sound level during blasting from the ground vibration measured on the ground near an aquarium basin.
