  • Flexibly-reconfigurable roll forming (FRRF) is a novel sheet metal forming technology conducive to produce multi-curvature surfaces by controlling strain distribution along longitudinal direction. Reconfigurable rollers could be arranged to implement a kind of punch die set. By utilizing these reconfigurable rollers, desired curved surface can be formed. In FRRF process, three-dimensional surface is formed from two-dimensional curve. Thus, it is difficult to predict the forming result. In this study, a regression analysis was suggested to construct a predictive model for a longitudinal curvature of FRRF process. To facilitate investigation, input parameters affecting the longitudinal curvature of FRRF were determined as maximum compression value, curvature radius in the transverse direction, and initial blank width. Three-factor three-level full factorial experimental design was utilized and 27 experiments using FRRF apparatus were performed to obtain sample data of the regression model. Regression analysis was carried out using experimental results as sample data. The model used for regression analysis was a quadratic nonlinear regression model. Determination factor and root mean square root error were calculated to confirm the conformity of this model. Through goodness of fit test, this regression predictive model was verified.

  • The drawbead is used to control the material flow into the die and increase the forming quality during the binder wrap process and the stamping process in the sheet metal forming. Drawbead restraining force (DBRF) is controlled by geometrical parameters and influenced by process parameters such as friction coefficient and blank thickness. In order to inspect the effect of process parameters, parameter studies are performed with the variation of parameters using finite element model of drawbead which is utilized reliably for the calculation of the drawbead restraining force. Drawbead analysis is carried out with 2-D plane-strain element and 3-D shell element. After the verification of the accuracy of the drawbead model with 3-D shell element, it is utilized to the prediction and the investigation of the effect of process parameters. The result of parameter studies can be utilized to the die design in the tryout stage.

  • The automotive industry have made an effort to reduce the weight of vehicle structures with increased safety, while initial model of the final product does not contain any prehistoric effects in a design stave. It takes lots of time to calculate forming effects that have great influences on the energy absorption of structures. In this paper, finite element inverse analysis is adopted to calculate forming effects, such as thickness variation and effective plastic strain as well as an initial blank shape with small amount of computation time. Crash analysis can be directly performed after inverse analysis of the forming process without remeshing scheme. The direct mesh mapping method is used to calculate an initial guess from the sliding constraint surface that is extracted from the die and punch set. Analysis results show that energy absorption of structures is increased with consideration of forming effects and finite element inverse analysis is usefully applicable to calculate forming erects of vehicle structures for the crash analysis.

  • Several tests were conducted to optimize the design parameters of ln-situ soil flushing processes for diesel contaminated soil. According to the batch extraction test for three anionic surfactants evaluation, Calgonit limiting bubble occurrence was selected for its higher oil cleaning efficiency. After optimum surfactant selection, there were many sets of column flushing test. Over 70% of BTEX was removed in this surfactant dose with 400% of soil volume. In the case of no surfactant addition flushing in column, so called "blank flushing test", BTEX removal rate was 64%. But when we reused the effluent for the cleaning solution, the removal rate was decreased to 46.9%. This result showed reabsorption of oil occurred on the soil. With the addition of Calgonit solution to the diesel contaminated column, BTEX was removed up to 98.9% during the first flushing and 99.4% for the second recirculation flushing. In microcosm tests, diesel contaminated soils were cleaned by both surfactant flushing and biological activities. In anoxic condition, nitrate was used as an electron acceptor while the surfactant and the oil were used an electron donor. BTEX removal efficiency could be achieved up to 80% by biological degradation.

  • The bead is used to provide properly restraining force in the sheet metal forming process. This bead process includes bending and geometrical non-linearity, and affects the state of binderwrap. Therefore, the analysis of bead process is very important to obtain the desired formability. In this paper, the research about the influence of the punch stroke of bead on the draw-bead process was conducted. Results from the analysis will give useful information to the effective tool design of blank forming process. To analyze the bead process, and elasto-plastic finite element formulation is constructed from the equilibrium equation and the considered boundary conditions involved a proper contact condition. The static-explicit finite element method as a numerical method for the analysis was applied to the analysis program code. It was found that this method could solve too much computation time and convergence problem owing to high non-linearity of bead forming process.

  • Optimization of an electric machine is mainly a nonlinear multi-modal problem. For the optimization of the multi-modal problem, many function calls are required with much consumption of time. To address this problem, this paper proposes a novel hybrid algorithm in which function calls are less than conventional methods. Specifically, the proposed method uses the kriging metamodel and the fill-blank technique to find an approximated solution in a whole problem region. To increase the convergence speed in local peaks, a parallel gradient assisted simplex method is proposed and combined with the kriging meta-model. The correctness and usefulness of the proposed hybrid algorithm is verified through a mathematical test function and applied into the practical optimization as the cogging torque minimization for an interior permanent magnet synchronous machine.

  • 0.5mm thick steel is used to manufacture nail files. The first process is blanking the blank and then make about 300 holes of 0.8$\~$1.0mm in diameter. This process depends mainly on etching which takes $33\%$ of manufacturing cost and it can make manufacturing cost rise. The residual etching reagent is not environmentally friendly and the steel material is apt to rust as well. The key accomplishments of this research are to change the material from steel to stainless and develop a progressive perforating die in place of etching process.

  • This study traces the flow of modern museum architecture from the 18th to 19th century when the rationalist architectural spirit influenced the museum architecture to the 1930s, before the museums of the modern architectural masters appeared. With early modern museums until the 1930s as a target, which had long been enshrined in classicality, finally contributed to narrowing the gap with the times, but did not receive the right evaluation, this study examines their different architectural styles from previous museums and reveals that they have a significance to announce the departure of modern museums beyond classical ones. The three museums, built in the 1930s, will be identified as respectable early modern museums that will fill the remaining blank space of the history of museum architecture. In this study, modern museums are asymmetric, non-centre oriented, and non decorative. They have multi-directional circulation, and a neutral, open and flexible exhibition space. They also try to align themselves with the modern architectural tendency of the day.
