Automatic Algorithm for Extracting the Jet Engine Information from Radar Target Signatures of Aircraft Targets (항공기 표적의 레이더 반사 신호에서 제트엔진 정보를 추출하기 위한 자동화 알고리즘)

  • Jet engine modulation(JEM) is a technique used to identify the jet engine type from the radar target signature modulated by periodic rotation of the jet engine mounted on the aircraft target. As a new approach of JEM, this paper proposes an automatic algorithm for extracting the jet engine information. First, the rotation period of the jet engine is yielded from auto-correlation of the JEM signal preprocessed by complex empirical mode decomposition(CEMD). Then, the final blade number is estimated by introducing the DM(Divisor-Multiplier) rule and the 'Scoring' concept into JEM spectral analysis. Application results of the simulated and measured JEM signals demonstrated that the proposed algorithm is effective in accurate and automatic extraction of the jet engine information.

A Study on the Durability of Manure Composting Facilities (축분 퇴비화 시설 내구성에 관한 조사연구)

  • Manure compost is a main product from animal wastes in Korea. Solid manure is usually treated by aerobic composting at manure composting facilities for land reinforcement. Agricultural use of manure compost as organic fertilizer resources, mainly manure compost, is now recommended in Korea. This study investigated the evaluation of durability about the manure composting machinery and structures which was controlled by aeration and periodic agitating. The questionnaire addressed three main topics as follows: operating practices, machinery and maintenance of the manure composting facilities are being operated. A total of the 22 manure composting facilities in an agricultural cooperative were surveyed. The results obtained in this survey were summarized as follow: The major causes of manure composting apparatus trouble were corrosion and wear, overloading and foreign matter etc. The highly trouble frequency of the agitator, packer and conveyor were chain, agitating blade and shaft, motor and screw vane, respectively. These analytical results can be used as basic information to establish the maintenance control methods and durability standard of manure composting facility.

Experimental Study on Ventilation and Shaft Excitation Force of a Propeller in Partially Submerged Condition (부분 침수 조건에서 작동하는 프로펠러의 공기유입과 축계 기진력에 대한 실험적 연구)

  • Through a series of bollard pull tests of a propeller in partially submerged condition, thrust, torque, and shaft excitation force of a conventional propeller model were measured using a six-component load cell. By variation of the Weber number and Reynolds number, a consistent towing tank model test condition was derived. The effects of propeller immersion depth on the ventilation behavior and change of force and moment acting onto the propeller shaft were investigated. The decrease in thrust owing to the inception of ventilation was confirmed, and a large degree of dispersion of the thrust and torque coefficients were also observed in the transition region where the blade tip was under the water surface. The shaft excitation force was derived from the force and moment onto the propeller shaft.

  • A new poinsettia cultivar 'Clara' was bred by the National Institute of Horticultural and Herbal Science (NIHHS) in 2005. A cross was made between 'Red Velvet', a variety with dark green leaves and red bracts, and 'Freedom Bright Red', a variety with early short day responding and bright red bracts, in 2002. 'Clara' was finally selected in 2005 after the investigation of the growth and flowering characteristics from 2003 to 2005. 'Clara' has red ovate bracts and weak intensity of rugosity between bract veins. Leaf blade is ovate and medium green. Petiole length is relatively short, and stem color is reddish. 'Clara' has medium free-branching ability and makes short and compact canopy. Clara's bracts and transitional leaves are fully colored 9 weeks after short day commencement.

  • A new poinsettia cultivar 'Heidi' was bred by the National Institute of Horticultural and Herbal Science (NIHHS) in 2004. A cross was made between 'Freedom Rose', a variety with vigorously growing deep pink color, and 'Red Velvet', a variety with dark green leaves and red bracts in 2001. 'Heidi' was finally selected in 2004 after the investigation of the growth and flower characteristics from 2002 to 2004. It has velvety red colored elliptic bracts and transitional leaves, and medium intensity of rugosity between bract veins. Leaf blade is dark green, ovate shape and lobes are shallow. Petiole length is relatively short and stem color is reddish. 'Heidi' has free-branching ability and plant height is short. The bracts and transitional leaves are fully colored 7.5 weeks after short day commencement.

'Green Dream' has light yellow-green ovate bracts and medium intensity of rugosity between bract veins. Leaf blade is ovate and dark green. Petiole length is long, and stem color is greenish. 'Green Dream' has medium free-branching ability and long plant height. 'Green Dream's bracts and transitional leaves are fully colored 7 weeks after short day commencement.

Effect of Ventilation on Heat Stress in the System of Short-Sleeve T-Shirt-Combat Uniform-Chemical, Biological, and Radioactive Protective Clothing (반팔 내의-전투복-화생방보호의 시스템에서 환기가 열적 스트레스에 미치는 영향)

  • This study establishes basic data for the development of a new Chemical, Biological, and Radioactive (CBR) protective clothing by selecting the ventilation position to optimize thermal comfort on the basis of the opening and closing of each part. Participants were eight men in their 20s who had previously worn CBR protective clothing. After vigorous exercise and perspiration, the microclimate of the clothing and skin temperature was measured. Results revealed that when the ventilation zipper was opened after exercising, the skin and clothing microclimate temperatures, which had increased during the exercise, decreased in the chest and shoulder blade regions. The clothing microclimate humidity decreased in the chest area. The change was greatest in the chest region; the skin temperature decreased by 0.2℃, the clothing microclimate temperature by 2.7℃, and the clothing microclimate humidity by 3.2%RH through ventilation. Thus, the opening that allows the exchange of accumulated heat and moisture while wearing the CBR protective clothing is efficient.

  • In the pyrochemcial process of spent nuclear fuel, it is necessary to separate rare earth nuclides from LiCl-KCl eutectic waste salt for radioactive waste reduction. This paper presents the phosphorylation of neodymium chloride in LiCl-KCl-NdCl3 system using Li3PO4-K3PO4 as a phosphorylation agent in a chemical reactor with pitched blade impellers. The phosphorylation test was performed changing operation temperature, stirring rate, and amount of phosphorylation agent. Neodymium chloride was effectively converted into neodymium phosphate (NdPO4). A Study on Wafer-Level 3D Integration Including Wafer Bonding using Low-k Polymeric Adhesive (저유전체 고분자 접착 물질을 이용한 웨이퍼 본딩을 포함하는 웨이퍼 레벨 3차원 집적회로 구현에 관한 연구)

  • A technology platform for wafer-level three-dimensional integration circuits (3D-ICs) is presented, and that uses wafer bonding with low-k polymeric adhesives and Cu damascene inter-wafer interconnects. In this work, one of such technical platforms is explained and characterized using a test vehicle of inter-wafer 3D via-chain structures. Electrical and mechanical characterizations of the structure are performed using continuously connected 3D via-chains. Evaluation results of the wafer bonding, which is a necessary process for stacking the wafers and uses low-k dielectrics as polymeric adhesive, are also presented through the wafer bonding between a glass wafer and a silicon wafer. After wafer bonding, three evaluations are conducted; (1) the fraction of bonded area is measured through the optical inspection, (2) the qualitative bond strength test to inspect the separation of the bonded wafers is taken by a razor blade, and (3) the quantitative bond strength is measured by a four point bending. To date, benzocyclobutene (BCB), $Flare^{TM}$, methylsilsesquioxane (MSSQ) and parylene-N were considered as bonding adhesives. Of the candidates, BCB and $Flare^{TM}$ were determined as adhesives after screening tests. By comparing BCB and $Flare^{TM}$, it was deduced that BCB is better as a baseline adhesive. It was because although wafer pairs bonded using $Flare^{TM}$ has a higher bond strength than those using BCB, wafer pairs bonded using BCB is still higher than that at the interface between Cu and porous low-k interlevel dielectrics (ILD), indicating almost 100% of bonded area routinely.

  • This investigation was carried out to define the cultivation state of Ginseng seedling and to study the growth of important characters by location and correlations between characters, the results obtained are summarized as follows; 1. Most of farmers culitvating ginseng seedling had not any special consideration for the improvement of soil, and they applied green manure only as basic fertilizer but they did not apply chemical fertilizer. 2. Any efforts on the improvement of ginseng seed were not found. Seed was harvested from 3 years old ginseng plant. Seedling density was 1.8 cm by 2 cm. 3. Growth of all characters showed significant differences among farms. Coefficients of variation among individual seedling plants was largest at root diameter and smallest at root length. 4. Gromth of all characters without root diameter by planted location under the shadow was poor at front row, however root diameter was shortest at back row. 5. Significant high correlatons were rocognized between root diameter and stem diameter, between leaf blade and stem diameter and between leaf blade and leaf length, but stem length were not correlated with any characters. It is noticable that negative correlations were found between stem length and root diameter, between stem length and root length and between stem length and stem diameter.
