A wind turbine is one of the most popular energy conversion systems to generate electricity from the natural renewable energy source and an axial-flow type wind turbine is the most popular system for the electricity generation in the wind farm nowadays. In this study, a cross-flow type turbine has been studied for the application of wind turbine for electricity generation. The target capacity of electric power generation of the model wind turbine developing on the project is 12 volts, 130A/H (about 1.56kW). The important design parameters of the model turbine impeller are the inlet and exit angle of the turbine blade, number of blade, hub/tip ratio and the exit flow angle of the casing. In this study, the radial equilibrium theorem was used to decide the inlet and exit angle of the impller blade and CFD technique was used to have the performance analysis of the designed model power turbine to find out the optimum geometry of the CPT impeller and casing. The designed CPT with 24 impeller blades at ${\alpha}=82^{\circ}$, ${\beta}=40^{\circ}$ of turbine blade angle was estimated to generate 284.6 N.m of indicated torque and 2.14kW of indicated power.
In this investigation, the aerodynamic performance evaluation of a 1MW class blade has been performed with the purpose of the verification of target output and its clear understanding of flow field using CFD commercial code, ANSYS FLUENT. Before making progress of CFD analysis the HERACLES V2.0 software based on blade element momentum theory was applied for confirmation of quick and approximate performance in the preliminary stage. The blade was designed to produce the target output of a 1MW class at a rated wind speed of 12m/s, which consists of five different airfoils such as FFA W-301, DU91-W250, DU93-W-210, NACA 63418 and NACA 63415 from hub to tip. The mechanical power by CFD is approximately 1.195MW, which is converted into the electrical power of 1.075MW if the system loss is considered to be 0.877.

This paper presents the structural model development and verification processes of wind turbine blade. The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) Phase VI wind turbine which the wind tunnel and structural test data has publicly available is used for the study. The wind turbine assembled by blades, rotor, nacelle and tower. The wind blade connected to rotor. To make the whole turbine structural model, the mass and stiffness properties of all parts should be clear and given. However the wind blade, hub, nacelle, rotor and power generating machinery parts have difficulties to define the material properties because of the composite and assembling nature of that. Nowadays to increase the power generating coefficient and cost efficiency, the highly accurate aerodynamic loading evaluating technique should be developed. The Fluid-Structure Interaction (FSI) is the emerging new way to evaluate the aerodynamic force on the rotating wind blade. To perform the FSI analysis, the fluid and structural model which are sharing the associated interface topology have to be provided. In this paper, the structural model of blade development and verifying processes have been explained for Part1. In following Part2 paper, the processes of whole turbine system will be discussing.
In the case of the general helicopter among rotorcraft, length of the rotor blade for thrust-generation is longer than that of fuselage and tail rotor is required in order to compensate moment of the fuselage. For those reasons, enough space for take-off and landing should be secured and an accessibility for building is low. Also, the accidents caused by tail rotor occur frequently. However, the case of counter-rotating has merits that tail rotor is unnecessary as well as length of the rotor blade can be shortened but has a weakness that the weight of body is increased. In the present study, aerodynamic force measurement on single rotor system equipped with NACA0012 airfoil, which has aspect ratio of 6 and chord length of 35.5 mm, was carried out. And measurement was conducted with blade which has a half size of the former blade by using single motor counter-rotating. Aerodynamic force measurement was acquired by using 6-component balances and coefficients of thrust and power were derived along the pitch angle varying from 0$^{\circ}$ to 90$^{\circ}$ with the increment of 10$^{\circ}$. Those aerodynamic force data will be utilized for the design and production of brand-new counter-rotating rotor blade system which has same thrust with single blade system and provides a good accessibility to building by reducing its blade length.
In the recently released accident-investigation report on blade failure, almost 70% of blade failures was found at low pressure turbine blades, and it is well known that main cause is due to the vibration modes. This paper describes the systematic approach on the root cause of the blade failure at L 0 stage, 30MW single flow industrial steam turbine which had tripped by high vibration after ten-month commercial operation. A fracture was found at the only one damping wire hole of 59 blades, and crack was detected at three damping wire holes by NDT. According to the analysis result for the crack fracture surface and the chain of the sequential operational events, we come to the conclusion that a typical high cycle fatigue is the most dominant factor caused to the blade failure, the resonance frequency margin was narrowed by the cut damping wire and the high cycle vibration was amplified, and then the blade was broken at once by the centrifugal force when the crack reached the critical size.
Current wind turbine units that are used primarily 3Blade type devices or large-scale wind-term capacity of 2MW of 60m~90m Blade diameter is applied. This is not the best suitable design with the designing condition for the special quality of wind condition in the South-West Coastal Areas of Korea where the wind speed frequency of average wind speed and over 10m/s high wind velocity is fairly low. For this matter, in this dissertation, the expecting generation amount of electric power is measured excluding a mechanical moment, considering wind power energy traveling to the Blade when 60m~120m blade is applied, based on 2MW wind generator. Also, we would like to propose the Blade diameter which is fitted by wind condition of South-West Coastal Areas of Korea.

This present paper leads to investigation of blade-fluid interactions of cambered blade H-Darrieus rotor having EN0005 airfoil blades using comprehensive Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis to understand its performance in low wind streams. For several blade azimuthal angle positions, the effects of three different low wind speeds are studied regarding their influence on the blade-fluid interactions of the EN0005 blade rotor. In the prevailing studies by various researchers, such CFD analysis of H-Darrieus rotors are very less, hence it is needed to improve their steady-state performance in low wind velocities. Such a study is also important to obtain important performance insights of such thin cambered blade rotor in its complete rotational cycle. It has been seen that the vortex generated at the suction side of the EN0005 blade rolls back to its leading edge due to the camber of the blade and thus a peak velocity occurs near to the nose position of this blade at its leading edge, which leads to peak performance of this rotor. Again, in the returning phase of the blade, a secondary recirculating vortex is generated that acts on the pressure side of EN0005 blade rotor that increases the performance of this cambered EN0005 blade rotor in its downstream position as well. Here, the aerodynamic performances have been compared considering Standard k-ε and SST k-ω models to check the better suited turbulence model for the cambered EN0005 blade H-Darrieus rotor in low tip speed ratios.
Turbine blade is subject to force of three types ; the torsional force by torsional mount, the centrifugal force by the rotation of rotor and the cyclic bending force by steam pressure. The cyclic bending force was a main factor on fatigue strength. SEM fractography in root of turbine blade showed micro-clack width was not dependent on stress intensity factor range. Especially, fatigue did not exist on SEM photograph in root of turbine blade. To clear out the fracture mechanism of turbine blade, nanofractography was needed on 3-dimensional crack initiation and crack growth with high magnification. Fatigue striation partially existed on AFM photograph in root of turbine blade. Therefore, to find a fracture mechanism of the torsion-mounted blade in nuclear power plant, the relation between stress intensity factor range and surface roughness measured by AFM was estimated, and then the load amplitude ΔP applied to turbine blade was predicted exactly by root mean square roughness.
The wind turbine blade is the equipment converted wind into electric energy. The effect of the blade has influence of the output power and efficiency of wind turbine. The design of blade is considered of lift-to-drag ratio, structure, a condition of process of manufacture and stable maximum lift coefficient, etc. This study is used the simplified method for design of the aerodynamic blade and aerodynamic analysis used blade element method. This process is programed by delphi-language. The program has any input values such as tip speed ratio, blade length, hub length, a section of shape and max lift-to-drag ratio. The program displays chord length and twist angle by input value and analyzes performance of the blade.
The purpose of this 3-D numerical simulation is to calculate and examine the complex 3-D stall phenomena on the rotor blade and wake distribution of the wind turbine. The flow characteristics of 500kW Horizontal Axis Wind Turbine (HAWT) are compared with the calculated 3-D stall phenomena and wake distribution. We used the CFX-TASCflow to predict flow and power characteristics of the wind turbine. The CFD results are somewhat consistent with the BEM (Blade Element Momentum) results. And, the rotational speed becomes faster, the 3-D stall region becomes smaller. Moreover, the pressure distribution on the pressure side that directly gets the incoming wind grows high as it goes toward the tip of the blade. The pressure distribution on the blade's suction side tells us that the pressure becomes low in the leading edge of the airfoil as it moves from the hub to the tip. However, we are not able to precisely predict on the power coefficient of the rotor blade at the position of generating complex 3-D stall region.
