Blades of horizontal axis are nowadays made of composite materials. Generally, composite materials satisfy design provides lower weight and good stiffness, while laminate composites have often damages as like the delamination and cracks at the interface of laminates. The box spar and tail parts of a blade are composed of the CFRP/GFRP hybrid laminate composites. However, delamination and the interfacial crack often occur in the interface of CFRP/GFRP hybrid laminate composites under the mixed mode fracture condition, especially mode I and mode II. Therefore, there is a need for the evaluation of the mixed mode fracture behavior during the delamination of CFRP/GFRP hybrid laminates. This study shows the experimental results for the delamination fracture toughness in CFRP/GFRP hybrid laminate composites. Fracture toughness experiments and estimation are performed by using DMMB(Dissimilar mixed mode bending) specimen. The materials used in the test are a commercial woven type CFRP(Carbon fiber reinforced plastic) prepreg(CF3327) and UD type GFRP(Glass fiber reinforced plastic) prepreg(HD224A). A CFRP/GFRP hybrid laminate composite is composed by the 10 plies CFRP and GFRP prepreg for DMMB. A thickness of CFRP and GFRP layer is 2.5mm and 3.0mm, respectively. Also the fulcrum location which is a loading parameter is changed from 80 to 100mm on the specimen of length 120mm because it defines the ratio of mode I to mode II. In this study, the effects of the fulcrum location are evaluated in the viewpoint of energy release rate in mode I and mode II contribution. The results show that the delamination crack initiates at higher displacement and lower load according to the increase of the fulcrum location ratio. And the variation of the energy release rate for mode I and II contributions for the mode mixity are shown.
Korea Aerospace Research Institute is performing 3 stage transonic axial compressor development program. This paper introduces design step of the compressor, the performance test results and its analysis. In the fore part of the paper, aerodynamic process of the 3 stage axial compressor is presented. To satisfy both of the mass flow and pressure rise, the compressor should rotate at a high rotational speed. Therefore the transonic flow field forms in the rotor stages and it is designed with a relatively high pressure rise per stage to satisfy its design target. The compressor stage consists of 3 stages, and the bulk pressure ratio is 2.5. The first stage is burdened with the highest pressure ratio and less pressure rises occur in the following stages. Also it is designed that tip Mach number of the first rotor row does not exceed 1.3, while the maximum relative Mach number in the rotor stage is between 1.3~1.4 to increase the compressor flow coefficient. The final design has been confirmed by iterating three dimensional CFD calculations to verify design target and some design intentions. In the latter part of the paper, its performance test processes and results are presented. The performance test result shows that the overall compressor performance targets; pressure ratio and efficiency are well achieved. The stator static pressure distributions show that the blade loading is gradually increasing from the downstream of the compressor.
After manufacturing 2mol% CdO substitute $0.05Pb(Mn_{1/3}Sb_{2/3})O_3-0.95Pb(Zr_{0.52}Ti_{0.48})O_3$ piezoelectric ceramics powder as starting material, to manufacture green sheets using Doctor Blade method. The optimum composition of slurry was studied. Moreover, the sintering properties and the dielectric and piezoelectric properties with variation a thickness of the manufactured sheets were investigated. The optimum of slurry was investigated by the rheology with addition of additives, the sintering condition was decided by TGA. And the properties of sheet were investigated through SEM. XRD. The optimum of slurry was the stablest at dispersant 3.0 wt% to solid loading 30vol%. After, at addition of binder/plasticizer(0.75/0.25) 3.0wt%, viscosity was 7.55Pa${\cdot}$s. The dielectric and piezoelectric properties of the sheet were increased a little with the increasing of sintering temperature but were not variable with variation of sheet thickness.

Flexible composite propellers are subject to large deformation under heavy loading, and hence the hydrodynamic performance of deformed propeller might deviate from that of the metallic propeller under negligible deformation. To design the flexible propeller, it is therefore necessary to be able to evaluate the structural response of the blades to the hydrodynamic loadings, and then the influence of the blade deformation upon the hydrodynamic loadings. We use the lifting-surface-theory-based propeller analysis and design codes in solving the hydrodynamic problem, and the finite-element-method program formulated with 20-node iso-parametric solid elements for the analysis of the structural response. The two different hydrodynamic and structural programs are arranged to communicate through the carefully-designed interface scheme which leads to the derivation of the geometric parameters such as the pitch, the rake and the skew distributions common to both programs. The design of flexible propellers, suitable for manufacturing, is shown to perform the required thrust performance when deformed in operation. Sample design shows the fast iteration scheme and the robustness of the design procedure of the flexible propellers.
The consumption of pre-treated vegetables (including fresh-cut vegetables) that are washed, peeled, and trimmed has been significantly increased because of their easy use for cooking. Vegetable cutting machines have been widely utilized for producing fresh-cut vegetables or agricultural products of different sizes; however, the design standard is not established for specific types of agricultural products. Therefore, this study was conducted to determine mechanical properties (compressive and shear forces) of targeted agricultural products (radish, carrot, squash, cucumber, shiitake mushroom, and sweet potato) for developing a multipurpose vegetable cutting machine. According to ASAE standard (s368.3), compressive and shear forces of targeted agricultural products were measured by using a custom built UTM (universal testing machine). Shape type of samples and speed ranges (5 - 15 mm/min) of loading rate on bioyield and shear points varied depending on the targeted agricultural product. The range of averaged bioyield points of targeted agricultural products were between 7.89 and 146.98 N. On the other hand, their averaged shear points ranged from 22.50 to 53.47 N. Results clearly showed that the bioyield and shear points of targeted agricultural products were thoroughly affected by their components. As measuring compressive and shear forces of a variety of agricultural products, it will be feasible to calculate blade cutting force for designing multipurpose vegetable cutting machine.

The high-skewed and/or composite propellers of current interests to reduce the ship vibration and to increase the acoustic performance are likely to be exposed to the unexpected structural problems. One typical example is that the added mass effect on the propellers working in the non-uniform wake field reduces the natural frequency of the propeller leading to the resonance with the low-frequency excitation of the external forces. To avoid this resonance problem during the design stage, the technique of fluid-structure interaction has been developed, but the higher-order effect of the blade geometry deformation is not yet considered in evaluating the added mass effects. In this paper the fluid boundary-value problem is formulated by the potential-based panel method in the inviscid fluid region with the velocity inflow due to the body deformation, and the structural response of the solid body under the hydrodynamic loading is solved by applying the finite element method which implements the 20-node iso-parametric element model. The fluid-structure problem is solved iteratively. A basic fluid-sturcture interaction study is performed with the simple rectangular plates of thin thickness with various planform submerged in the water of infinite extent. The computations show good correlation with the experimental results of Linholm, et al. (1965).

The coupled vibration of the deck house and stern structure, which was experienced on a 12,900 TDW Ro/Ro ship, has been studied. It was a large-scale vibration problem where the structure resonates with the propeller excitation at the first blade passing frequency. After discussing the structural characteristics of the ship, the vibration characteristics measured ducting the sea-trial are presented and compared with the analysis results which are based on a 3 dimensional finite element(FE) model. The FE model is also used to verify various reinforcement options and to predict their effectiveness. A substantial reduction or the vibration was confirmed during the sea-trial after installing a few selected reinforcement. The forced vibration response, which is computed using the FE model, is compared with the measured data. The change of the vibration characteristics according to loading conditions is also studied.

In this study, a centrifugal seawater cooling pump was analyzed to investigate its cavitation behavior over different operating flow rates. 3D two-phase simulations were carried out with ANSYS-CFX commercial code. The $k-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence and Rayleigh-Plesset cavitation models were employed in the simulations. A head drop characteristics curves for three discharge rates was built based on numerical predictions. At higher flow rates, the impeller was more vulnerable to bubble cavitation. The 3 % head drop points of the pump working at 0.7Q, Q, and 1.3Q (Q: design flow rate) corresponded with NPSHa 1.21 m, 1.83 m, and 3.45 m, respectively. The volume of vapor bubbles was estimated and cavitation locations were anticipated to visualize the development of the cavity within the impeller. Moreover, the distribution of pressure coefficient and a blade loading chart are specifically presented, bringing out the harmful impacts of cavitation on the pump operation.

A new propeller series is developed using the newly developed blade section(KH18 section) which behaves better cavitation characteristics and higher lift-drag ratio at wide range of angle-of-attack. The pitch and camber distributions are disigned in order to have the same radial and chordwise loading distribution with the selected circumferentially averaged wake input. Since the geometries of the series propeller, such as chord length, thickness, skew and rate distribations, are selected by regression of the recent full scale propeller geometric data, the performance prediction of a propeller at preliminary design stage can be mure realistic. Number of blades of the series propellers is 4 and the expanded blade area ratios are 0.3, 0.45, 0.6 and 0.75. Mean pitch ratios are selected as 0.5, 0.65, 0.8, 0.75 and 1.1 for each expanded area ratio. The new propeller series is composed of 20 propellers and is named as KD(KRISO-DAEWOO) propeller series. Propeller open water tests are performed at the experimental towing tank, and the cavitation observation tests and fluctuating pressure measurements are carried out at the cavitation tunnel of KRISO. $B_{P}-\delta$ curves, which can be used to select the optimum propeller diameter at the preliminary design stage, are derived from a regression analysis of the propeller often water test results. The KD-cavitation chart is derived from the cavitation observation test results by choosing the local maximum lift coefficient and the local cavitation number as parameters. The caviy extent of a propeller can be predicted more accurately by using the KD-cavitation chart at a preliminary design stage, since it is derived from the results of the cavitation observation tests in the selected ship's wake, whereas the existing cavitation charts, such as the Burrill's cavitation chart, are derived from the test results in uniform flow.
Spar platforms have several advantages for deploying wind turbines in offshore for depth beyond 120 m. The merit of spar platform is large range of topside payloads, favourable motions compared to other floating structures and minimum hull/deck interface. The main objective of this paper is to present the response analysis of the slack moored spar platform supporting 5MW wind turbine with bottom keel plates in regular and random waves, studied experimentally and numerically. A 1:100 scale model of the spar with sparD, sparCD and sparSD configuration was studied in the wave basin ($30{\times}30{\times}3m$) in Ocean engineering department in IIT Madras. In present study the effect of wind loading, blade dynamics and control, and tower elasticity are not considered. This paper presents the details of the studies carried out on a 16 m diameter and 100 m long spar buoy supporting a 90 m tall 5 MW wind turbine with 3600 kN weight of Nacelle and Rotor and 3500 kN weight of tower. The weight of the ballast and the draft of the spar are adjusted in such a way to keep the centre of gravity below the centre of buoyancy. The mooring lines are divided into four groups, each of which has four lines. The studies were carried out in regular and random waves. The operational significant wave height of 2.5 m and 10 s wave period and survival significant wave height of 6 m and 18 s wave period in 300 m water depth are considered. The wind speed corresponding to the operational wave height is about 22 knots and this wind speed is considered to be operating wind speed for turbines. The heave and surge accelerations at the top of spar platform were measured and are used for calculating the response. The geometric modeling of spar was carried out using Multisurf and this was directly exported to WAMIT for subsequent hydrodynamic and mooring system analysis. The numerical results were compared with experimental results and the comparison was found to be good. Parametric study was carried out to find out the effect of shape, size and spacing of keel plate and from the results obtained from present work ,it is recommended to use circular keel plate instead of square plate.
