Several reverse design methods are developed and applied to the suction or pressure surface for finding design values of blade geometry for a given axial turbine blade. Re-designed blade profiles using shape parameters are compared with measured blade data. Essential shape parameters for blade design are induced by the procedure of reverse design for best fitting. Characteristics of shape parameters are evaluated through the system design method and restriction conditions of structural stability or aerodynamic flow loss. Some of shape parameters i.e blade radius or exit blade angle etc., are classified to weakly adjustable shape parameters, otherwise strongly adjustable shape parameters which would be applied for controlling blade shape. Average deviation values between the measured data and re-designed blade using shape parameters are calculated for each design method. Comparing with the average deviation for a given blade geometry, minimum shape parameters required to design a blade geometry are obtained.

This research describes on airfoil shape design, crucial to core technique and algorithm optimization for the wind turbine blade development. We grasped the parameter to define the airfoil shape in the wind turbine blade and aircraft, and the important performance characteristic of the airfoil. The airfoil shape function is selected by studying which is suitable for wind turbine blade airfoil development. The selected method is verified by to compare the generated airfoil shape with base airfoil. The new airfoils were created by the selecting shape function based on the well-known airfoil for wind turbine blades. In addition, we performed aerodynamic analysis about the generated airfoils by XFOIL and estimated the point of difference in the airfoil shape parameter using the aerodynamic performance results which is compared with basic airfoil. This result data applies to the fundamental research for a wind turbine blade optimization design and accomplished the aerodynamic analysis manual.

This paper showed the difference in the optimum conditions by using the ANSYS CFX simulation program with the changes of the main-blade angle and sub-blade angle. Main-blade Shape 4,which had angle $45^{\circ}$ while other Shapes with angle $0^{\circ}$, was increased to 157.2[%] to 263.2[%] in the power and was increased to 110[%] to 250[%] in the power coefficient. Moreover, when the Shape 5 Fin length of main-blade doubled, the power was 70.8[%] when compared with Shape 1 and 27.5[%] with shape 4.If the main-blade geometry equals shape 1 in the case structure, The power of Case1 was increased to 13.3[%] when compared with Case2. Also, the power coefficient was increased to 15.4[%]. When sub-blade angle was $45^{\circ}$, main-blade was better than the Fin type than the Bended type. The power of Case4 was increased to 47[%] when compared with Csae1 and increased to 13.6[%] with Case 3. Also, the power coefficient was 46.7[%] when compared with Case 1 and 15.8[%] with Case 3.
This paper describes the shape optimization of rotor blade in a transonic axial compressor rotor. Three surrogate models, Kriging, radial basis neural network and response surface methods, are introduced to find optimum blade shape and to compare the characteristics of object function at each optimal design condition. Blade sweep, lean and skew are considered as design variables and adiabatic efficiency is selected as an objective function. Throughout the shape optimization of the compressor rotor, the predicted adiabatic efficiency has almost same value for three surrogate models. Among the three design variables, a blade sweep is the most sensitive on the object function. It is noted that the blade swept to backward and skewed to the blade pressure side is more effective to increase the adiabatic efficiency in the axial compressor Flow characteristics of an optimum blade are also compared with the results of reference blade.
In this work, optimization of blade shape for the improvement of mixture formation and vortex of intake port was performed by numerically, and the combustion performance of CI engine with optimized blade shape was investigated. To achieve this, 3 types of blade shape were studied under the different air flow mass conditions and the numerical results were investigated in terms of humidification water, moisture concentration, and velocity distributions. Evaporated liquid mass was also compared under various test conditions to reveal the turbulent intensity in an intake port. It was observed that the optimized blade shape can improve the humidification water, moisture concentration, and velocity distributions of intake port inside. The evaporated liquid mass was also increased under the conditions with blade. Especially, low NOx emissions was observed with optimized blade condition.

This paper describes the shape optimization of a stator blade in a single-stage transonic axial compressor. The blade optimization has been performed using response surface method and three-dimensional Navier-Stokes analysis. Two shape variables of the stator blade, which are used to define a stacking line, are introduced to increase an adiabatic efficiency. Data points for response evaluations have been selected by D-optimal design, and linear programming method has been used for an optimization on a response surface. Throughout the shape optimization of a stator blade, the adiabatic efficiency is increased to 5.8 percent compared to that of the reference shape of the stator. The increase of the efficiency is mainly caused by the pressure enhancement in the stator blade. Flow separation on the blade suction surface of the stator is also improved by optimizing the stator blade. It is noted that the optimization of the stator blade is also useful method to increase the adiabatic efficiency in the axial compressor as well as the optimization of a rotor blade, which is widely used now.
Losses on the turbine consist of the mechanical loss, tip clearance loss, secondary flow loss and blade profile loss etc.,. More than 60 % of total losses on the turbine is generated by the two latter loss mechanisms. These losses are directly related with the reduction of turbine efficiency. In order to provide a new design methodology for reducing losses and increasing turbine efficiency, a two-dimensional axial-type turbine blade shape is modified by the optimization process with two-dimensional compressible flow analysis codes, which are validated by the experimental results on the VKI turbine blade. A turbine blade profile is selected at the mean radius of turbine rotor using on a heavy duty gas turbine, and optimized at the operating condition. Shape parameters, which are employed to change the blade shape, are applied as design variables in the optimization process. Aerodynamic, mechanical and geometric constraints are imposed to ensure that the optimized profile meets all engineering restrict conditions. The objective function is the pitchwise area averaged total pressure at the 30% axial chord downstream from the trailing edge. 13 design variables are chosen for blade shape modification. A 10.8 % reduction of total pressure loss on the turbine rotor is achieved by this process, which is same as a more than 1% total-to-total efficiency increase. The computed results are compared with those using 11 design variables, and show that optimized results depend heavily on the accuracy of blade design.
Shape optimization of a rotor blade in a single-stage transonic axial compressor has been performed using a response surface method and three-dimensional Navier-Stokes analysis. Two shape variables of the rotor blade, which are used to define a blade skew, are introduced to increase an adiabatic efficiency. Throughout the shape optimization of a rotor blade, the adiabatic efficiency is increased to about 2.2 percent compared to that of the reference shape of the stator. The increase in efficiency for the optimal shape of the rotor is due to the pressure enhancement, which is mainly caused by moving the separation position on the suction surface of rotor blade to the downstream direction.
In this paper, the three-dimensional finite element model is established to investigate the structural dynamic characteristics of rotor blade using a finite element analysis. Six natural frequencies and mode shapes are calculated by computer simulation. The first three flapping modal frequencies, the first two lead-lag modal frequencies, and the first feathering modal frequency are validated through comparison with the modal test results of the fixed rotor blade. The computer simulation results are found in good agreement with experimentally measured natural frequencies. The important results are obtained as follows: (1) Natural frequencies are changed due to the variation of rotational speed and fiber angle of rotor blade, (2) Weak coupling between flapping mode shape and lead-lag mode shape are detected, (3) Centrifugal force has more effect on flapping modal frequency than lead-lag modal frequency.
