An Optical Threshold Generator for the Stream Cipher Systems (스트림 암호 시스템을 위한 광 Threshold 발생기)

  • In this paper, we propose a new optical thresold generator as a key-stream genrator for stream cipher systems. The random key-bit stream is generated by a digital generator that is composed of LFSRs and nonlinear ligics. Digital implementatin of a key-stream generator requires large memory to implement programmable tapping points. This memory problem may be overcome easily by using the proposed optical system which has the proberty of 2D parallel processing.To implement hte threshold generator optically, we use conventional twisted nematic type SLMs (LCDs). This proposed system is based on the shadow casting technique for the AND operation between taps and sregister stages. It is also based on the proposed PMRS method for modulo 2 addition. The proposed PMRS method uses the property of light's polarization on LCD and can be implemented optically using one LCD and some mirrors. One of the major advantages of the proosed system is that there is no limitation of the number of the progarmmable tapping points. Therefore, the proposed system can be applied for the 2D encryption system which processes large amounts of data such as 2D images. We verify the proposed system with some simulation.

An Efficient Scheme to write a Transmission Schedule using Convergence after Interactive Operations in a Stored Video (대화형 연산 후 수렴을 이용한 저장된 비디오의 효율적인 전송 스케줄 작성 방안)

  • In a video-on-Demand(VOD) service, a server has to return to he normal playback quickly at a certain new frame position after interactive operations such as jump or last playback. In this paper, we propose an efficient scheme to write a transmission schedule for a playback restart of a video stream at a new frame position after interactive operations. The proposed scheme is based on convergence characteristics, that is transmission schedules with different playback startup frame position in a video stream meet each other at some frame position. The scheme applies a bandwidth smoothing from a new frame position to a convergence position without considering all remaining frames of a video stream. And then the scheme transmits video dta according to the new schedule from the new frame position to the convergence position, and then transmits the remaining video data according to the reference schedule from the convergence position, and then transmits the remaining video data according to the reference schedule from the convergence position to the last frame position. In this paper, we showed that there existed the convergence position corresponding to nay frame position in a video stream through many experiments based on MPEG-1 bit trace data. With the convergence we reduced the computational overhead of a bandwidth smoothing, which was applied to find a new transmission schedule after interactive operations. Also, storage overhead is greatly reduced by storing pre-calculated schedule information up to the convergence position for each I frame position of a video stream with video data off-line. By saving information on a transmission schedule off-line along with the video data and searching the schedule corresponding to the specified restarting frame position, we expect the possibility of normal playback of a video stream with small tolerable playback startup delay.

  • To transmit a video bit stream over low bandwith, such as mobile, channels, encoding algorithms for high bit rate like H.263+ are used. In transmitting video bit-streams, packet losses cause severe degradation in image quality. This paper proposes a new algorithm for the recovery of missing or erroneous motion vectors when H.263+ bit-stream is transmitted. Considering that the missing or erroneous motion vectors are closely related with those of neighboring blocks, this paper proposes a temporal-spatial error concealment algorithm. The proposed approach is that missing or erroneous Motion Vectors(MVs) are recovered by clustering the movements of neighboring blocks by their homogeneity. MVs of neighboring blocks we clustered according to ALA(Average Linkage Algorithm) clustering and a representative value for each cluster is determined to obtain the candidate MV set. By computing the distortion of the candidates, a MV with the minimum distortion is selected. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm exhibits better performance in subjective and objective evaluation than existing methods.

Automatic Video Genre Identification Method in MPEG compressed domain

  • Video summary is one of the tools which can provide the fast and effective browsing fur a lengthy video. Video summary consists of many key-frames that could be defined differently depending on the video genre it belongs to. Consequently, the video summary constructed by the uniform manner might lead into inadequate result. Therefore, identifying the video genre is the important first step in generating the meaningful video summary. We propose a new method that can classify the genre of the video data in MPEG compressed bit-stream domain. Since the proposed method operates directly on the com- pressed bit-stream without decoding the frame, it has merits such as simple calculation and short processing time. In the proposed method, only the visual information is utilized through the spatial-temporal analysis to classify the video genre. Experiments are done for 6 genres of video: Cartoon, Commercial, Music Video, News, Sports, and Talk Show. Experimental result shows more than 90% of accuracy in genre classification for the well-structured video data such as Talk Show and Sports.

  • In this paper, we described a design of the input buffer system for efficiently dealing with MPEG audio bitstream to demux header and side information, audio data. In order to overcome the limitations of fixed-word manipulation in bitstream demuxing, we proposed a new variable length bit retrieval system with FSM sequencer supporting MPEG audio frame format, and serial buffer demuxing audio stream, FIFO circular buffer including header and side information.

Design and Implementation of a Fully Synthesizable Bluetooth Baseband Module Considering IP Reuse

  • In this paper, we describe the structure and the test results of a Bluetooth baseband module we have developed. The module has a distributed buffer, i.e. FIFO, for data stream. Bus interface of the module is designed on the basis of interface of microprocessor widely used and the external interface is designed to consider chips connected directly. Since the module performs as many hardware efficient tasks as possible, processing load of microprocessor is very small. It can also be controlled either by software or by hardware for flexibility. The fully synthesizable baseband module was fabricated in a $0.25\mu\textrm{m}$ CMOS technology occupying $2.79\times2.8{\textrm{mm}^2}$ area. And an FPGA implementation of this module is tested for file and bit-stream transfers between PCs.

  • In this paper, a fast information extraction algorithm for object-based MPEG-4 application from MPEG-1,2 is proposed. For object-based MPEG-4 conversion, we need to extract such information as object-image, shape-image, macro-block motion vector, and header information from MPEG-1,2 bit-stream. If we use the extracted information, fast conversion for object-based MPEG-4 is possible. The proposed object extraction algerian has two important steps, namely the motion vector extraction from MPEG-1,2 bit-stream and the watershed algerian The algorithm extracts objects using user's assistance in the intra frame and tracks then in the following inter frames. If we have an unsatisfactory result for a fast moving object the user can intervene to connect the segmentation. The proposed algorithm consist of two steps, which are intra frame object extracting processing and inter frame tracking processing. Object extracting process is the step in which user extracts a semantic object directly by using the block classification and watersheds. Object tracking process is the step of the following the object in the subsequent frames. It is based on the boundary fitting method using motion vector, object-mask and modified watersheds. Experimental results show that the proposed method can achieve a fast conversion from the MPEG-1,2 bit-stream to the object-based MPEG-4 input.

An Implementation of Authentication and Encryption of Multimedia Conference using H.235 Protocol (H.235 프로토콜에 의한 영상회의의 인증과 암호화 구현)

  • This paper describes the implementation of H.235 protocol for authentication and media stream encryption of multimedia conference systems. H.235 protocol is recommended by ITU-T for H.323 multimedia conference security protocol to prevent from being eavesdropped and modified by an illegal attacker. The implementation in this paper has used password-based with symmetric encryption authentication. Media streams are encrypted using the Diffie-Hellman key exchange algorithm and symmetric encryption algorithms such as RC2, DES and Triple-DES. Also, 128-bit Advanced Encryption Standard and 128-bit Korean standard SEED algorithms are implemented for the future extension. The implemented authentication and media stream encryption has shown that it is possible to identify terminal users without exposing personal information on networks and to preserve security of multimedia conference. Also, encryption delay time and used memory are not increased even though supporting media stream encryption/decryption, thus the performance of multimedia conference system has not deteriorated.

  • In this paper, the efficient implementation technique of media processing part in the terrestrial and satellite DMB (Digital Multimedia Broadcasting) receiver is presented. To implement the unified multimedia Processor of DMB receiver, we investigated the characteristic of DMB service and the functionality of each processing part in the DMB receiver. To implement the synchronization between audio and video media, we present the general method to use the reference clock of the stream in the DMB receiver. Also we present the method to handle the bit error of the received bitstream within the wireless net work for robust media processor.

  • Among the various zero suppression (ZS) algorithms used in a for synchronous stream cipher system, a ZS-2 exhibits certain good properties, including the omission of the block synchronization, easy implementation, etc., yet also a weakness in channel error propagation. Accordingly, This paper proposes a new method by minimizing the bit-wide substitution in the substitution blocks of ZS-2 to improve the degenerated error property in a noisy channel. As a result, the proposed ZS-3 algorithm can decrease the mean error propagation by about 18.7% over that of ZS-2 at n=8.
