Identification of humans from multiple view points is an important task for surveillance and security purposes. For optimal performance the system should use the maximum information available from sensors. Multimodal biometric systems are capable of utilizing more than one physiological or behavioral characteristic for enrollment, verification, or identification. Since gait alone is not yet established as a very distinctive feature, this paper presents an approach to fuse face and gait for identification. In this paper we will use the single camera case i.e both the face and gait recognition is done using the same set of images captured by a single camera. The aim of this paper is to improve the performance of the system by utilizing the maximum amount of information available in the images. Fusion in considered at decision level. The proposed algorithm is tested on the NLPR database.
Inspired by the rapid development of deep learning and online biometrics-based authentication, we propose a handwritten one-time password authentication system which employs deep learning-based handwriting recognition and writer verification techniques. We design a convolutional neural network to recognize handwritten digits and a Siamese network to compute the similarity between the input handwriting and the genuine user's handwriting. We propose the first application of the second edition of NIST Special Database 19 for a writer verification task. Our system achieves 98.58% accuracy in the handwriting recognition task, and about 93% accuracy in the writer verification task based on four input images. We believe the proposed handwriting-based biometric technique has potential for use in a variety of online authentication services under the FIDO framework.

It is known to be hard to apply cryptographic one-way functions to the recognition system using bio-information directly. As one of the solutions about that problem there is a permutation transformation scheme. However, they did not show my algorithmic behavior or any performance analysis of the transformation by experiment. In this paper, by showing the recognition ratio of the transformed scheme by experiment, we prove that that scheme is sound. Also, we adopt their transformation to LDA(Linear Discriminant Analysis) to show the experimental results. In the negative side, we introduce a new type of attack against the permutation transformation schemes. finally, we briefly mention a generalization of the permutation transformation for countermeasure of the attack at the end of this paper.

With increases in recent security requirements, biometric technology such as fingerprints, faces and iris recognitions have been widely used in many applications including door access control, personal authentication for computers, internet banking, automatic teller machines and border-crossing controls. Finger vein recognition uses the unique patterns of finger veins in order to identify individuals at a high level of accuracy. This paper proposes new device and methods for touchless finger vein recognition. This research presents the following five advantages compared to previous works. First, by using a minimal guiding structure for the finger tip, side and the back of finger, we were able to obtain touchless finger vein images without causing much inconvenience to user. Second, by using a hot mirror, which was slanted at the angle of 45 degrees in front of the camera, we were able to reduce the depth of the capturing device. Consequently, it would be possible to use the device in many applications having size limitations such as mobile phones. Third, we used the holistic texture information of the finger veins based on a LBP (Local Binary Pattern) without needing to extract accurate finger vein regions. By using this method, we were able to reduce the effect of non-uniform illumination including shaded and highly saturated areas. Fourth, we enhanced recognition performance by excluding non-finger vein regions. Fifth, when matching the extracted finger vein code with the enrolled one, by using the bit-shift in both the horizontal and vertical directions, we could reduce the authentic variations caused by the translation and rotation of finger. Experimental results showed that the EER (Equal Error Rate) was 0.07423% and the total processing time was 91.4ms.

Recently, biometric techniques such as face recognition, finger-print recognition and iris recognition have been widely applied for various applications including door access control, finance security and electric passport. This paper presents the method of using finger-vein pattern for the personal identification. In general, when the finger-vein image is acquired from the camera, various conditions such as the penetrating amount of the infrared light and the camera noise make the segmentation of the vein from the background difficult. This in turn affects the system performance of personal identification. To solve this problem, we propose the novel and fast method for extracting the finger-vein region. The proposed method has two advantages compared to the previous methods. One is that we adopt a locally adaptive thresholding method for the binarization of acquired finger-vein image. Another advantage is that the simple morphological opening and closing are used to remove the segmentation noise to finally obtain the finger-vein region from the skeletonization. Experimental results showed that our proposed method could quickly and exactly extract the finger-vein region without using various kinds of time-consuming filters for preprocessing.

Iris recognition is biometric technology which uses a unique iris pattern of user in order to identify person. In the captured iris image by conventional iris recognition camera, it is often the case with eyelid occlusion, which covers iris information. The eyelids are unnecessary information that causes bad recognition performance, so this paper proposes robust algorithm in order to detect eyelid. This research has following three advantages compared to previous works. First, we remove the detected eyelash and specular reflection by linear interpolation method because they act as noise factors when locating eyelid. Second, we detect the candidate points of eyelid by using mask in limited eyelid searching area, which is determined by searching the cross position of eyelid and the outer boundary of iris. And our proposed algorithm detects eyelid by using parabolic hough transform based on the detected candidate points. Third, there have been many researches to detect eyelid, but they did not consider the rotation of eyelid in an iris image. Whereas, we consider the rotation factor in parabolic hough transform to overcome such problem. We tested our algorithm with CASIA Database. As the experimental results, the detection accuracy were 90.82% and 96.47% in case of detecting upper and lower eyelid, respectively.
In the field of biometric security such as face and iris recognition, it is essential to extract facial features such as eyes and lips. In this paper, we have studied a method of detecting eye and lip region in face image using faster R-CNN. The faster R-CNN is an object detection method using deep running and is well known to have superior performance compared to the conventional feature-based method. In this paper, feature maps are extracted by applying convolution, linear rectification process, and max pooling process to facial images in order. The RPN(region proposal network) is learned using the feature map to detect the region proposal. Then, eye and lip detector are learned by using the region proposal and feature map. In order to examine the performance of the proposed method, we experimented with 800 face images of Korean men and women. We used 480 images for the learning phase and 320 images for the test one. Computer simulation showed that the average precision of eye and lip region detection for 50 epoch cases is 97.7% and 91.0%, respectively.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the factors of action and reaction through the examples of luminescence digital fashion design, which is a part of the interactive digital paradigm in 21st century, and to classify types of interaction expressed in luminescence digital fashion design. The significance of this study is to provide an effective database for researches on new ideas and expression methods of fashion design using luminescence digital device. The contents are as follows. First, identifying the concepts of interaction, digital fashion, and luminescence digital device. Second, analyzing the factors that put the luminescence digital device into effect through materials such as the collected photos and the stimulus behind the materials. Third, analyzing and classifying types of reaction according to the types of stimulus in luminescence digital fashion design. Detailed use of luminescence digital devices in Fashion designs did not start until after 2000 so the scope of this study starts from 2000 and on. The methods of this study are as follows. The theoretical frameworks of digital fashion and interaction were setup by using information from various related books, papers, and internet sites. In addition, the empirical analysis was performed using collected photos and explanations through related Internet sites of digital fashion. Through the study, the interaction types in 21st century's luminescence digital fashion design can be expressed variously according to the current input type, biometric recognition type, environment recognition type.

Recently, user authentication through biometric traits such as fingerprint and iris raise more and more attention especially in mobile commerce and fin-tech fields. In particular, commercialized authentication methods using fingerprint recognition are widely utilized mainly because customers are more adopted and used to fingerprint recognition applications. In the meantime, the security issues caused by fingerprint falsification bring lots of attention. In this paper, we propose a new method to improve the performance of fake fingerprint detection using CNN(Convolutional Neural Network). It is common practice to increase the amount of learning data by using affine transformation or horizontal reflection to improve the detection rate in CNN characteristics that are influenced by learning data. However, in this paper we propose an effective data augmentation method based on the database difficulty level. The experimental results confirm the validity of proposed method.

Unlike general cameras, a high-speed camera capable of capturing a large number of frames per second can enable the advancement of some image processing technologies that have been limited so far. This paper proposes a method of removing undesirable noise from an high-speed input color image, and then detecting a human face from the noise-free image. In this paper, noise pixels included in the ultrafast input image are first removed by applying a bidirectional filter. Then, using RetinaFace, a region representing the person's personal information is robustly detected from the image where noise was removed. The experimental results show that the described algorithm removes noise from the input image and then robustly detects a human face using the generated model. The model-based face-detection method presented in this paper is expected to be used as basic technology for many practical application fields related to image processing and pattern recognition, such as indoor and outdoor building monitoring, door opening and closing management, and mobile biometric authentication.
