  • In this paper, we propose a subject-independent regression model to estimate systolic blood pressures (SBP) conveniently and continuously. There have been several researches on estimating SBP with pulse transit time (PTT) and they showed promising results. However, previous studies used only PTT as the estimation parameter, and their models were generated with just one person's PTT data which is not applicable to estimating other person's SBP. Therefore, we collected several additional biometric parameters with 202 healthy subjects. After statistical analysis of measured biometric parameters with SBP, we chose final estimating parameters including PTT to generate a multiple linear regression model for estimating SBP. Comparing the results of our study with approvable standards of automated sphygmomanometers developed by Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation and approved by American National Standards Institute (ANSI/AAMI) indicates that our proposed method for continuously blood pressures monitoring gives an acceptable error.

  • In this study, the parameter extraction for evaluation of the anesthesia depth in each anesthesia stages was conducted. An object of the this experiment study has studied 5 adult patients (mean $\pm$ SD age:$42{\pm}9.13$), ASA classification I and II, undergoing surgery of obstetrics and gynecology. Anaesthesia was maintained with Enflurane. HRV signal was created by R-peak detection algorithm form ECG signal. The HRV data were preprocessing algorithm. It has tried find out the anesthesia parameter which responds the anesthesia events and shows objective anesthesia depth according to anesthesia stage including pre-anesthesia, induction, maintenance, awake and post-anesthesia. In this study, proposed algorithm to analysis the HRV(heart rate variability) signal using wavelet transform in anesthesia stage. Three sorts of wavelet functions applied to PSD. In the result, all of the results were showed similarly. But experiment results of Daubeches 10 is better. Therefore, this parameter is the best parameter in the evaluation of anesthesia stage.

  • This paper proposes a threshold-based fall recognition algorithm to discriminate between falls and activities of daily living (ADL) using a tri-axial accelerometer and a bi-axial gyroscope sensor mounted on the upper sternum. The experiment was executed ten times according to the proposed experimental protocol. The output signals of the tri-axial accelerometer and the bi-axial gyroscope were measured during eight falls and eleven ADL action sequences. The threshold values of the signal vector magnitude (SVM_Acc), angular velocity (${\omega}_{res}$), and angular variation (${\theta}_{res}$) parameter were calculated using MATLAB. From the preliminary study, three thresholds (TH1, TH2, and TH3) were set so that the falls could be distinguished from ADL. When the parameter SVM_Acc is greater than 2.5 g (TH1), ${\omega}_{res}$ is greater than 1.75 rad/s (TH2), and ${\theta}_{res}$ is greater than 0.385 rad (TH3), these action sequences are recognized as falls. If at least one or more of these conditions is not satisfied, the sequence is classified as ADL.

  • In this study, a uroflowmetry system was developed to detect a voiding symptom conveniently at home or hospital. A implemented hardware was composed of mechanism and system circuit part, the software was developed to process uroflow data, graph display, extraction of parameter, and evaluation of congregate rate so as to analysis obtaining uroflow data. The following experiment was performed to evaluate an ability of classification and fitness. The curve pattern of uroflow was classified into each symptom. Various parameters were calculated in the curve pattern of each uroflow as follows. The parameters are MFR, AFR, VOL, VT, and FT. A significant difference among parameters was examined by a statistical analysis for extracted parameters between normal and abnormal experimental group. The uroflow data with the various symptom was divided into normal and abnormal group using fuzzy classifier. The result of the fuzzy classification using MFR and AFR was superior by 91.23 % than grouping evaluation including VOL.

  • Effects of alkaline reduced water (ARW) on the scavenging of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and diabetes were recently reported. However, no studies have yet been investigated on general drinking effects. In this study, we examined 100 patients hospitalized for senile disease treatment and recuperation. All examines received the ARW for 2 months. WBC level was decreased from $6.34\pm1.9(\times10^9/L)$ to $5.66\pm1.7(\times10^9/L)$. SGPT level was decreased from 27.47$\pm$14 Ut to 23.95$\pm$8.8 U/L. Cholesterol level was increased from 167.9$\pm$32 mg/dl to 176.21$\pm$42 mg/dl within normal range. However, the levels of potassium, adiponectin, SGOT and blood pressure showed no significant difference. The levels of growth hormone and homocysteine and mini-mental state examination also showed no significant difference. We suppose that the slight blood parameter trends indicate an improved physical condition induced by the ARW. Furthermore, we could found no harmful effect of the ARW in this study.

  • A new hydrodynamic mock circulation system was developed, which can test prosthetic heart valves of various sizes in order to obtain valve parameters, such as pressure drop, regurgitation and valve performance index with a high reproducibility. High reproducibility can be obtained only under equal testing conditions, i.e., the compliance, resistance and inertance of the mock circulation system must be constant parameter estimation using actual pressure and flow data was applied to calculate these systemic variables in order to adjust them to create the necessary equal testing conditions.

  • Natural products are important sources for drug development because they have a wide variety of useful biological properties. Angelica gigas Nakai (AGN) has been used as an herbal medicine. The present study was designed to evaluate the immune-enhancing effect of AGN in the cyclophosphamide (CP) induced immune-suppressed mice. As the result, we found that CP induced the reductions of body ratio, spleen weights, hematopoietic parameter and cytokine productions in mice. However, AGN recovered immunosuppression-mediated decreased body ratio, spleen and thymus weights as well as regulation of hematopoietic parameter including white blood cell, lymphocyte, and neutrophil. According to histological study, AGN regenerated on CP-mediated injured spleen. Moreover, AGN increased the CP-induced reduction of cytokine expression in spleen tissue. Collectively, the findings provide experimental evidence that AGN may be a candidate for health-improving herbs.

  • As a part of the study on ultrasonic tissue characterization, conventional ultrasonic imaging system is interfaced to the personal computer to acquire raw ultrasonic signal. One approach for tissue charaterization is performed using the attenuation map to the conventional images and the resulting attenuation map images are compared and inspected inside the region of interest from the viewpoint of pattern analysis. Currently, these methods are applied and modified to effectively find out the differences between the normal control and the patients with liver cirrhosis.
