  • 생물체가 생명을 영위하기 위해 수행하는 모든 기능들에 대한 정보는 각 개체가 가지고 있는 유전체가 들어있다. 그런데 각 생물체마다, 심지어는 한 생물체의 서로 다른 염색체마다 그 전체 염기서열에서의 base-composition은 같지 않고, 또한 이 구성비에는 일정한 특징이 있다. 따라서 이 논문에서는 각 생물체들의 전체 염기서열을 구성하는 염기의 구성비에 대해 조사하고 비교해 보고자 한다.

  • 생물학적 서열의 구조 검색은 생물학적 특성을 예측하는데 많은 도움을 주며, 서열에서 나타나는 구조의 패턴은 촘스키의 형식 언어로 기술 가능하다. 본 논문에서는 문맥무관문법의 확장된 표기법인 DCG를 이용하여 구조 검색을 위한 구조 패턴의 생성 규칙을 정의하였다. 또한 구조 검색의 효율향상을 위하여 구조와 관련한 제한(constraint)을 정의하였고 이를 제한 논리 프로그래밍 언어로 구현하였다. 구현된 구조 검색 엔진은 웹 인터페이스를 통하여 접근할 수 있다.

  • 본 논문에서는 모발내에 있는 약 30여가지의 생체 미네랄과 8가지의 중금속 정보 분석을 통해 생체내에 양양상태의 과잉, 결핍 및 불균형 상태를 평가하고, 그 결과가 현재 생체에 미치는 영향을 예측하여, 건강을 유지하는 방향을 제시할 수 있는 의료용 지능적 의학진단 시스템을 구축하였다. 이 논문에서는 생체내 미네랄 정보를 다중 퍼지규칙베이스 시스템으로 구축함으로써 환자에게 보다 효율적으로 치료와 예방방법을 제시할 수 있는 의학진단시스템을 구축하였다.

RepWeb: A Web-Based Search Tool for Repeat-Related Literatures

  • Repetitive sequences such as SINE, LINE, and LTR elements form a major part of eukaryotic genomes. A literature search tool that summarizes the information contained within repeat elements would provide biologists in the field of genomics with a useful tool for analyzing genomic sequence features. We developed a java program designed to make literature access easier by using two search engines simultaneously. RepWeb is a web-based search system that provides a user friendly interface for searching the reference data and journals for information related to repeat elements by using the search engines, Google Scholar and PubMed, simultaneously. It provides an interface that displays the repeat element- related biological information, and includes useful functions such as the production of a repeat tree, clickable links to PubMed and Google Scholar, exporting, and sorting a field into date, author, journal and title.

Synergistic Increase of Oxidative Stress and Tumor Markers in PAH-Exposed Workers

  • In this study, we investigated oxidative stress and tumor marker levels of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in 136 coke oven workers and in 60 control subjects, and evaluated the correlation between oxidative stress and tumor marker levels. Questionnaires on basic demographic information were also administered. Significant differences in employment time and percentages of alcohol drinkers were observed between the control and exposed groups. PAH exposure was assessed using urinary 1-hydroxy-pyrene (1-OHP) levels and was found to be significantly higher in workers than in the controls. Significant differences (P<0.001) of MDA, GST, LDH, NSE, Cyfra21-1, and of SCC and TNF-a (P<0.0001 and P<0.05, P<0.001, respectively) levels were observed among controls and coke-oven workers, except for bottom coke oven workers. Associations between age and risk of increased TNF-a, smoking and increased GST activities, and drinking with increased MDA concentrations, were marginal (P=0.055, P=0.048, P=0.057, respectively). The association between smoking with MDA (P=0.004), NSE (P=0.005), SCC (P=0.004) andTNF-a (P<0.001), and drinking with TNF-a levels was significant (P=0.012). In addition, a significant positive correlation between oxidative stress and tumor markers was found in the present study. These results suggest that a synergistic increase of oxidative stress and tumor markers induced by PAHs may play a role in toxic responses for PAHs in coke oven workers.

  • In order to measure ECG in daily life, a new ECG measurement method on bed was developed. The provided method does not require any direct conductive contact between the instrument and bare skin, so that it does not cause the uncomfortable feel of touch and the possible skin trouble which are typical shortcomings of the conventional conductive contact ECG measurement. The provided method utilized an array of high-input-impedance active electrodes fixed on the mattress and an indirect-skin-contact ground made of a large conductive textile sheet and laid on lower area of the mattress. A thin cotton bedcover covered the mattress, the electrodes, and the conductive textile and subjects lay on the mattress over the bedcover. ECG was obtained successfully. However its signal quality is lower and the motion artifact is larger than direct-contact measurement. Careful measurement setup was needed to reduce the motion artifact originated from variation in static electricity. From the ECG obtained by the provided method, R-peak could be discriminated easily and the information about the position and the posture of the subject could be obtained.

  • The accidents caused by drivers while driving are considered as the major causes along with other causes such as conditions of roads, weather and cars. In this study, we investigated the driver's workloads under three different driving conditions (Weather, Driving time zone, and Traffic density) through analyzing biological signals obtained from a car driving simulator system. The proposed method is able to detect R waves and R-R interval calculation in the ECG. Heart rate variability (HRV) was investigated for the time domain to determine the changes in driver's conditions.

  • Recently, human life is getting longer due to change of living environment and development of medical technology, and silver medical technology has been in the limelight. Geriatric skin disease is difficult to detect early, and when it is missed, it becomes a malignant disease and is difficult to treatment. Melanoma is one of the most common diseases of geriatric skin disease and initially has a similar modality with the nevus. In order to overcome this problem, we attempted to perform a feature analysis in order to attempt automatic detection of melanoma-like lesions. In this paper, one is first order analysis using information of pixels in radiomic feature. The other is a gray-level co-occurrence matrix and a gray level run length matrix, which are feature extraction methods for converting image information into a matrix. The features were extracted through these analyses. And classification is implemented by SVM.

  • The Purpose of this study was to develop a data base system for the information on science education research and development. As a part of this study, an analysis of papers on science education included in five selected jounals related science education was done by the use of the authors classification system for the research and development materials of science education. A total of 640 papers from the first issues to the 1991 issues of the journals were classified and analyzed. The selected five journals were Journal of the Korean Association for Research in Science Education (published by The Korean Association for Research in Science Education, 148 papers), Teaching Physics(published by Korean Physical Society, 164papers), Chemical Education (published by The Korean Chemical Socity, 98 papers), The Korean Journal of Biological Education(published by The Korean Society of Biological Education, 148papers), and Journal of Science Education (published by Science Education Center.College of Education, Seoul National University, 82 papers).

An Integrated Sewer Management System using Web Based Predictive Spatial Information System (웹 기반의 공간정보예측시스템을 이용한 통합적 하수도 관리 시스템의 개발 및 적용)

  • Web based integrated sewer management system was developed for the analysis of sewer flow and for the optimal operation of sewer works using ArcView and SWMM. SWMM and ArcView were dynamically linked together using Avenue in order to construct user-friendly information management system. The developed system was applied to the residential area in Choonchun city to verify its utilities. All the relevant field data were analyzed on the basis of the developed system, and the modeling of sewer flow was implemented using RUNOFF, EXTRAN, TRANSPORT in SWMM. This system is now in the process of connection to the management system of stormwater, surface and subsurface environment in order to develop an integrated environmental management system. Futhermore, this system will be a critical part of overall control system of sewer works including sewer network and wastewater treatment plant. As this system can provide comprehensive prediction of flow and pollution profiles, it could serve as a tool not only for the optimal management, but also for the decision support system to examine the efficiency of planning and implementation of sewer projects.
