  • Construction of the Asian Network for Sustainable Organic Farming Technology (ANSOFT) will be cooperatively administered by the public researchers in 12 Asian member countries from 2010 to 2012. ANSOFT will bring forward multiple reports, which will be constantly renewed by the member countries, regarding environmental issues, plant and landscape protection techniques, regulations and policies of each country's government on an organic agriculture, and natural resources such as organic seeds and biological agents.

  • Polyketides are a class of structurally diverse natural products which possess a wide range of biological activities. These compounds are used throughout medicine and agriculture as antimicrobials, immunosuppressants, antiparasitics, and anticancer agents. While structurally diverse, polyketides are assembled by a common mechanism of decarboxylative condensations of simple malonate derivatives by polyketide synthases (PKSs) in a manner very similar to fatty acid biosynthesis (Fig 1). • The antiparasitic agent apicidin, which was recently isolated from cultures of Fusarium Pallidoroseum, belongs to a rare group of cyclictetrapeptide fungal metabolites. Apicidin inhibits protozoal HDAC and is orally active against Plasmodium berghei malaria in mice. The biological activity of apicidin appears to be attributable to inhibition of apicomplexan HDAC at low nanomolar concentrations. In the present, we have worked about the synthesis of new apicidin derivatives and discovered that apicidin and some derivatives have mild antitumor activity. (omiited)

  • Recently. 4'${\alpha}$-C homologated furanose nucleosides. especially alkyl branches. are molecules of considerable current interest. One of reasons for this prominence arises from the notable biological activities as antiviral and antitumor agents. as shown in 4'${\alpha}$-C-methyl-2-deoxythymidine (EC$_{50}$ = 7.2$\mu$M against HIV in MT-4 cell), 4'${\alpha}$-C-fluoromethyl-2-deoxycytidine. 4'${\alpha}$-C-hydroxymethylthymidine and 4'${\alpha}$- -C-azidomethyl-thymidine. • Therapeutic montitoring of drugs is a well established clinical 1001. However, the state of art is somewhat less advanced for psychotrpoic agents than it is for other classes of drugs, for several reasons. Most psychotropics have large volumes of distribution and achieve relatively low plasma concentrations following therapeutic doses. Many have one or more active metabolites. As a consequene, the analytical methodologies are often complex and not always reliable; well-controlled clinical studies are difficult to perform; and therapeutic ranges have been difficult to establish. Despite these limitations, prudent and selective monitoring of serum drug concentrations, particularly of the tricyclic antidepressants can be helpful in clinical management. This paper presents an overview of clinical and mothodological issues surrounding the utility of blood level measurement.

  • The insecticidal activities of 30 aromatic plant extracts against four insect pests were examined by direct contact application. Against Nilaparvata lugens female adults, Myzus persicae female adults, and Plutella xylostella larvae, at 5,000 ppm, >90% mortality was achieved in the methanol extracts of the rhizomes from Cnidium officinale, Acorus gramineus, Acorus calamus var. angustatus and Curcuma Ionga, the whole plant from Agastache rugosa, the fruits from Illicium verum and Piper nigrum, and the flower bud from Eugenia caryophyllata as well as Cinnamomum camphora steam distillate. Against Spodoptera litura larvae, all test plant extracts were ineffective. The plants described merit further study as potential insect-control agents against insect pests.

  • We applied the EHT method to 23 kinds of adrenergic agents, sympathomimetics, which were derived from phenethylamine by introducing hydroxy and methyl group to benzene ring, ${\alpha}-\;or\;{\beta}$-position and nitrogen of ethylamine. We have stated and discussed theoretically the relationship between their structural characteristics and biological activities by compairing with the calculated values.

  • Avariety of symptoms can occur following traumatic brain injury(TBI) or other types of acquired brain injury. These symptoms can include problems with short-term memory, attention, planning, problem solving, impulsivity, disinhibition, poor motivation, and other behavioral and cognitive deficit. These symptoms may respond to certain drugs, such as dopaminergic agents. Amantadine may protect patients from secondary neuronal damage after brain injury as a effect of NMDA receptor antagonists and may improve functioning of brain-injured patients as a dopaminergic agonist. Clinically, based on current evidence, amantadine may provide a potentially effective, safe, and inexpensive option for treating the cognitive, mood, and behavioral disorders of individuals with brain injury. The rationales for using amantadine are discussed, and pertinent literatures are reviewed.
