Background: Although many studies have evaluated the efficacy and pharmacokinetics of Korean Red Ginseng (KRG) components (Rg1, Rb1, Rg3, Rd, etc.), few have examined the in vivo pharmacokinetics of the radiolabeled components. This study investigated the pharmacokinetics of ginsenosides and their metabolite compound K (CK), 20(s)-protopanaxadiol (PPD), and 20(s)-protopanaxatriol (PPT) using radioisotopes in rat oral administration. Methods: Sprague-Dawley rats were dosed orally once with 10 mg/kg of the tritium(3H) radiolabeled samples, and then the blood was collected from the tail vein after 0.25, 0.5, 1, 1.5, 2, 4, 6, 8, 12, 24, 48, 96, and 168 h. Radioactivity in the organs, feces, urine, and carcass was determined using a liquid scintillation counter (LSC) and a bio-imaging analyzer system (BAS). Results and conclusion: After oral administration, as the 3H-labeled ginsenosides were converted to metabolites, Cmax and half-life increased, and Tmax decreased. Interestingly, Rb1 and CK showed similar values, and after a single oral administration of components, the cumulative excretion ratio of urine and feces was 88.9%-92.4%. Although most KRG components were excreted within 96-168 h of administration, small amounts of components were detected in almost all tissues and mainly distributed to the liver except for the digestive tract when observed through autoradiography. This study demonstrated that KRG components were distributed to various organs in the rats. Further studies could be conducted to prove the bioavailability and transmission of KRG components to confirm the mechanism of KRG efficacy.

In this study, the performance of high-pressure fuel pumps was compared to find a high-pressure pump suitable for dimethyl ether (DME) fuel, and to establish a database of basic data on flow rates. The use of DME in compression ignition engines can reduce pollutant emissions. The cetane value of DME is higher than that of diesel fuel. The physical properties of DME are similar to liquefied gasoline gas (LPG), and when pressurized at a pressure of 6 bar or more, it changes from gas to liquid. Two types of high pressure pumps used in this study were independent injection type pump and a wobble plate type pump. Two high-pressure pumps with different injection types were compared. By measuring and comparing the performance changes of the two high-pressure pumps, a pump suitable for DME was selected and performance improvement measures were proposed. The changed experimental conditions to measure the performance change of the high pressure pump were increased in the units of 100 to 1,000 rpm and 100 rpm, and the experiment was performed at common rail pressures 300 and 400 bar. it was confirmed that the DME inside the fuel supply system remained in a liquid state through temperature sensors, pressure sensors, and pressure gauges. As a result of the experiment, it was confirmed that the flow rate discharged from the high-pressure fuel pump increased as the motor rotational speed increased, and the flow rate of the high-pressure fuel pump
Consolidation settlements on marine dredged clays are often greatly and potentially damaging to structures. Currently, large-scale projects are in planning or progressing in Korea. These projects have been performed on thick and soft clay layers. So, the evaluation of consolidation characteristics for dredged and reclaimed ground is very important in design and construction. Therefore, in this study, a series of conventional consolidation tests were performed to investigate the consolidation characteristics of marine dredged clays near Gwang-yang Port. Preconsolidation pressures were evaluated by applying previously proposed 8 methods for the conventional tests results in order to evaluate the legitimacy of these methods. In these methods, when estimating maximum past pressures for dredged and reclaimed ground, it was proved that Becker (1987), Silva (1970), Sridharan (1991)'s methods are excellent in legitimacy.

It has been suggested that bisphenol A (BPA), a known endocrine disruptor, interferes with the endocrine system, causing reproductive dysfunction. Recently, BPA has been found in waste water due to incomplete sewage purification, possibly threatening health through its ingestion via tap water. In this study, young male mice (6 - 7 weeks old) were administered water containing BPA (50 mg·kg-1) for four weeks, while control mice consumed water without BPA. Serum, epididymal spermatozoa and testicular sections were assessed after sacrificing the mice on day 28. No significant differences were obtained between the groups in the body, testis and seminal vesicle weights. However, the epididymal sperm motility and count levels were significantly reduced in BPA-fed mice. Significantly higher hepatotoxicity levels were also observed in mice ingesting BPA as compared to the control mice. The level of serum testosterone was reduced, and testicular sections revealed incomplete and irregular spermatogenesis in BPA-ingested mice. The sperm proteasomal-proteolytic activity level has been implicated in sperm function and is measured in motile spermatozoa using fluorometric substrates. High ubiquitin C-terminal hydrolase activity levels were observed in the control mice without BPA. During a mating trial, a low pregnancy rate (71.4%) was observed in females mated with males who had consumed BPA (100% in the control mice). Overall, BPA adversely affected spermatogenesis and quality, as indicated by decreased sperm motility, concentration and serum testosterone levels, resulting in reduced fertility competence.

Recently, technology of Virtual Reality(VR) based on HMD among various kinds of VR implemented products has received widespread attention. Major IT-related companies around the world participated in VR HMD research and development. Therefore, the possibility of the spread of VR HMD has been highly praised. Demands of VR HMD products using Smart Phone has been especially increased so that it is required to create a high quality of VR contents. The purpose of study in this paper is to apply the depth value of stereoscopic to VR HMD. To implement it, we analyzed VR HMD optical system and converted an experimental image to virtual depth caused by binocular disparity based on the result of calculating NPP(Native Pixel Parallax). We produced the image of stereoscopic applied with the value converted and applied to VR HMD. This study is expected to be utilized as a VR content creation field of quantitative data.

As Internet of Things (IoT) applications and devices rapidly grow, cyber-attacks on IoT networks/systems also have an increasing trend, thus increasing the threat to security and privacy. Botnet is one of the threats that dominate the attacks as it can easily compromise devices attached to an IoT networks/systems. The compromised devices will behave like the normal ones, thus it is difficult to recognize them. Several intelligent approaches have been introduced to improve the detection accuracy of this type of cyber-attack, including deep learning and machine learning techniques. Moreover, dimensionality reduction methods are implemented during the preprocessing stage. This research work proposes deep Autoencoder dimensionality reduction method combined with Artificial Neural Network (ANN) classifier as botnet detection system for IoT networks/systems. Experiments were carried out using 3- layer, 4-layer and 5-layer pre-processing data from the MedBIoT dataset. Experimental results show that using a 5-layer Autoencoder has better results, with details of accuracy value of 99.72%, Precision of 99.82%, Sensitivity of 99.82%, Specificity of 99.31%, and F1-score value of 99.82%. On the other hand, the 5-layer Autoencoder model succeeded in reducing the dataset size from 152 MB to 12.6 MB (equivalent to a reduction of 91.2%). Besides that, experiments on the N_BaIoT dataset also have a very high level of accuracy, up to 99.99%.

Plant-derived insecticide-neonicotinoid insecticides (NIs) played a crucial role in the development of agriculture and food industry in recent years. Nevertheless, synthesis of these nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compounds with an effective and greener routing remains challenging especially to the notion raise of "green chemistry" and "atom economy". While bio-catalyzed methods mediated by nicotinate dehydrogenase (NDHase) then provide an alternative. The current review mainly focuses on the introduction of sources, components, structure, catalytic mechanism and applications of NDHase. Specifically, NDHase is known as nicotinic acid hydroxylase and the sources principally derived from phylum Proteobacteria. In addition, NDHase requires the participation of the electron respiratory chain system on the cell membrane. And the most important components of the electron respiratory chain are hydrogen carrier, which is mainly composed of iron-sulfur proteins (Fe-S), flavin dehydrogenase (FAD), molybdenum binding protein and cytochromes. Heterologous expression studies were hampered by the plasmid and host with high efficiency and currently only Pseudomonas entomophila L48 as well as Comamonas testosterone was successfully utilized for the expression of NDHase. Furthermore, it is speculated that the conjugate and inductive effects of the substituent group at position 3 of the substrate pyridine ring exerts a critical role in the hydroxylation reactions at position 6 concerning about the substrate molecular recognition mechanism. Finally, applications of NDHase are addressed in terms of pesticide industry and wastewater treatment. On conclusion, this critical review would not only deepen our understanding of the theory about NDHase, but also provides the guideline for future investigation of NDHase.
Four chemical treatments with hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), copper sulfate (CuSO4), potassium permanganate (KMnO4) and chlorine (Cl2) were applied to the effluent pond water of a hybrid striped bass saltwater recirculating aquaculture system to compare their oxidation power. Four chemicals were applied at concentrations of 0 (control), 1, 5, 10 and 20 mg/l. An additional concentration of 40 mg/l was included in the chlorine treatment. Water samples from four hybrid striped bass ponds were tested with KMnO4 and Cl2. H2O2 did not reduce any of BOD, COD and chlorophyll-a, and copper sulfate was only effective on chlorophyll-a for the effluent pond. Removal efficiencies for chlorophyll-a by copper sulfate were 19.2%, 37.5%, 54.2% and 74.1% dose-dependently. Potassium permanganate effectively removed the BOD, COD and chlorophyll-a. The COD removal rates in four fish ponds varied from 15.9% to 31.6% at the concentration of 10 mg/l. Interestingly, Cl2 did not reduce the BOD and COD at all, but the BOD and COD instead increased drastically with increasing the Cl2 concentration. The pond water with the highest initial BOD and COD values among the fish ponds tested increased by 350% in the BOD and 150% in the COD at 20 mg/l. Furthermore, Cl2 did not significantly reduce any types of solid matter in this study, while KMnO4 seemed to reduce some extent volatile dissolved solid in the fish pond.
