  • The aim of this retrospective study was to evaluate the relationship between periodontal health condition and the results of a new method such as Cariview which could evaluate the acidity of dental biofilms. Fifty four subjects more than 20 years old were selected for the candidates of this study. The periodontal health conditions of the candidates were divided into 4 groups according to the assessment of X-ray and Quantitative Light-induced Fluorescence-Digital (QLF-D; Inspektor Research Systems BV) images; gingivitis, slight periodontitis, moderate periodontitis, severe periodontitis. The biofilm acidogenicity of each subject was examined using Cariview (All in ONE BIO) according to manufacturer's instruction, and the Cariview score was calculated. The mean differences of Cariview score between 4 groups of periodontal health condition were examined by ANCOVA test with the covariance of decayed, missing, and filled teeth (DMFT) index. As a result, the mean Cariview score was different, however it was not significantly different from the 4 groups (p=0.12). The mean score was the lowest in the gingivitis group ($40.54{\pm}11.01$), and the highest in slight periodontitis group ($57.26{\pm}20.51$). In conclusion, the significant mean differences were not confirmed in Cariview score according to the periodontal health condition.

  • We examined the impact of paddy wetland's avian-diversity on the development of the protected horticulture complex. The results of this study were made to propose ecological protected horticulture complex and development direction suitable for avian habitat. The total number of species surveyed was analyzed as 1168 individuals in 11 orders 26 families and 36 generic 48 species. Type average was analyzed as paddy $17.25{\pm}4.83$ species and $74.50{\pm}38.08$ individuals, glass $10.00{\pm}0.82$ species and $46.75{\pm}2.06$ individuals, single $13.75{\pm}7.27$ species and $59.50{\pm}35.34$ individuals, multi $8.75{\pm}0.96$ species and $36.75{\pm}9.29$ individuals. Paddy showed higher species diversity than protected horticulture complex. The average number of species surveyed for one year was glass $14{\pm}2.83$, multi $12{\pm}1.41$, single $18{\pm}11.31$, and paddy $26{\pm}11.31$. The diversity difference was identified as paddy> single> glass and multi. Statistical analysis showed statistical difference of Ciconiiformes. Development of protected horticulture complex causes loss of avian habitat. The diversity index was glass $1.73{\pm}0.07$, multi $1.68{\pm}0.14$, single $1.91{\pm}0.47$, and paddy $2.29{\pm}0.17$. Paddy has a higher species diversity than the protected horticulture complex. For the purpose of ecological protected horticulture complex, detention ponds, artificial wetlands and habitats should be reflected in the design. This should be applied to reclamation areas or large-scale protected horticulture complexes.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the effect of roasted rice bran (RRB) on the rheological properties of bread dough. According to farinograph analysis, the consistency of the control sample was greatest. There were no significant differences in water absorption (p<0.05). Lower values of development time, stability, and time to breakdown, which were affected, by the addition of RRB, were observed for RRB-containing dough samples, compared to the control dough sample. Addition of RRB significantly increased the mixing tolerance index (MTI). According to rheofermentometer analysis, the values of H'm, $T^{\prime}_1$, and retention volume decreased with increase in the amount of RRB added. According to the rapid visco analyzer (RVA) analysis, peak viscosity, holding strength, and setback values were greater in the control than in the RRB-containing samples. The addition of RRB to the flour influenced rheological properties like fermentation volume and acidity. The total acidity increased with the increase in the amount of RRB added. The present study has indicated that there was no significant difference between the rheological properties of the control and 5% RRB-containing dough samples. Therefore, the addition of 5% RRB could be an effective way to produce functional flour bread without affecting its desirable physical properties.

  • The Stupa of Buddhist Monk Soyo in Baegyangsa temple, Jangseong, was erected to pay a tribute to the achievement of the Buddhist monk Soyo, who worked for Baegyangsa temple as a chief monk, and is a bellshaped stupa with the detailed pattern of a Korean traditional buddhist bell. It is composed of pinkish-grey sandstone and the body of the stupa was damaged by longitudinal cracks on the front and back areas and the exfoliation caused break-out in the most part of the sculpture on the left and right areas. According to the ultrasonic test and infrared thermography analysis for physical deterioration diagnosis, most weathering aspects appeared on the body of the stupa and some exfoliated part that could not be seen with the naked eye was detected 6.1% and 5.9% on the left and right side respectively. Hyperspectral imaging analysis was also carried out to assess biological deterioration. According to the result, the surface of the stupa was covered 71.8 ~ 79.9% with vegetation like algae, lichen and moss. NDVI(Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) was higher relatively on the bottom part near the ground, right and back areas of the stupa. Therefore conservation treatment for the exfoliated part and bio-deterioration is necessary and the environment condition needs to be fixed to prevent extra damages on the stupa.

  • In order to develop samultang with reduced side effects, modified samultang using omija was oral administered to rats with ovarian resection, and changes in evaluation indicators of functional efficacy in women's menopause were measured. In weight gain, relative weight of uterus and vagina, blood lipid-related indicators, and changes in blood estradiol, there was no statistically significant improvement effect in modified Samultang compared to the control group. However, the expression of estrogen receptor alpha and beta in intrauterine tissue tended to increase, and the expression of phosphorylated ERK, which is known to be involved in estrogen receptor signaling, showed a significant increase in activation in ERK and AKT. The expression amount of phosphorylation AKT was not significant, but showed an increasing tendency. Even though the test substance was administered in a relatively small dose, it is judged that the test substance modified Samultang has the ability to activate estrogen receptor. In the future, it is expected that it can be used as a useful natural mixture to show the efficacy of samultang with fewer gastrointestinal disorders.

  • With the development of deep learning, semantic segmentation methods are being studied in various fields. There is a problem that segmenation accuracy drops in fields that require accuracy such as medical image analysis. In this paper, we improved PSPNet, which is a deep learning based segmentation method to minimized the loss of features during semantic segmentation. Conventional deep learning based segmentation methods result in lower resolution and loss of object features during feature extraction and compression. Due to these losses, the edge and the internal information of the object are lost, and there is a problem that the accuracy at the time of object segmentation is lowered. To solve these problems, we improved PSPNet, which is a semantic segmentation model. The multi-scale attention proposed to the conventional PSPNet was added to prevent feature loss of objects. The feature purification process was performed by applying the attention method to the conventional PPM module. By suppressing unnecessary feature information, eadg and texture information was improved. The proposed method trained on the Cityscapes dataset and use the segmentation index MIoU for quantitative evaluation. As a result of the experiment, the segmentation accuracy was improved by about 1.5% compared to the conventional PSPNet.

  • The treatment of atopic dermatitis (AD) is challenging due to its complex etiology. From epidermal disruption to chronic inflammation, various cells and inflammatory pathways contribute to the progression of AD. As with immunosuppressants, general inhibition of inflammatory pathways can be effective, but this approach is not suitable for long-term treatment due to its side effects. This study aimed to identify a plant extract (PE) with anti-inflammatory effects on multiple cell types involved in AD development and provide relevant mechanistic evidence. Degranulation was measured in RBL-2H3 cells to screen 30 PEs native to South Korea. To investigate the anti-inflammatory effects of Parasenecio auriculatus var. matsumurana Nakai extract (PAE) in AD, production of cytokines and nitric oxide, activation status of FcεRI and TLR4 signaling, cell-cell junction, and cell viability were evaluated using qRT-PCR, western blotting, confocal microscopy, Griess system, and an MTT assay in RBL-2H3, HEK293, RAW264.7, and HaCaT cells. For in vivo experiments, a DNCBinduced AD mouse model was constructed, and hematoxylin and eosin, periodic acid-Schiff, toluidine blue, and F4/80-staining were performed. The chemical constituents of PAE were analyzed by HPLC-MS. By measuring the anti-degranulation effects of 30 PEs in RBL-2H3 cells, we found that Paeonia lactiflora Pall., PA, and Rehmannia glutinosa (Gaertn.) Libosch. ex Steud. show an inhibitory activity of more than 50%. Of these, PAE most dramatically and consistently suppressed cytokine expression, including IL-4, IL-9, IL-13, and TNF-α. PAE potently inhibited FcεRI signaling, which mechanistically supports its basophil-stabilizing effects, and PAE downregulated cytokines and NO production in macrophages via perturbation of toll-like receptor signaling. Moreover, PAE suppressed cytokine production in keratinocytes and upregulated the expression of tight junction molecules ZO-1 and occludin. In a DNCB-induced AD mouse model, the topical application of PAE significantly improved atopic index scores, immune cell infiltration, cytokine expression, abnormal activation of signaling molecules in FcεRI and TLR signaling, and damaged skin structure compared with dexamethasone. The anti-inflammatory effect of PAE was mainly due to integerrimine. Our findings suggest that PAE could potently inhibit multi-inflammatory cells involved in AD development, synergistically block the propagation of inflammatory responses, and thus alleviate AD symptoms.

  • Sugar solutions (5%, 10%, 15% and 20%) were tested by seven sensors of Astree E-Tongue for selecting a sensor for sweetness. NMS sensor was chosen as a sensor for sweetness among two sensors (PKS and NMS sensors selected in first stage) by considering precision, linearity and accuracy. Sugar, fructose, glucose and xylitol (5%, 10% and 15%) were tested by E-tongue. The principal component analysis (PCA) result by E-Tongue with seven sensors at 5% concentration level of four sweetners was not satisfactory (Discrimination index was -0.1). On the other hand, the relative NMS sensor response values were derived as 1.08 (fructose), 0.99 (glucose) and 1.00 (xylitol) comparing to sugar. Only the E-Tongue relative glucose response 0.99 was different from 0.5~0.75 of the relative sweetness range reported as the human sensory test results. Considering the excellent precision (%RSD, 1.53~3.64%) of E-Tongue using NMS single sensor for three types of sweeteners compared to sugar in the concentration range of 5% to 15%, replacing sensory test of sweetened beverages by E-Tongue might be possible for new product development and quality control.

  • Paddy fields provide important habitats for biodiversity conservation within the agricultural ecosystem. Their importance is gradually increasing as their ecological value is better understood. Benthic macroinvertebrates dominate paddy fields. They play an essential role in maintaining the biodiversity of paddy ecosystems. This study aimed to analyze characteristics of benthic macroinvertebrate communities and main environmental factors affecting the distribution of golden apple snails (Pomacea canaliculata). Results showed that the diversity index (H') of the benthic macroinvertebrate community was the highest at the Sangju site (St. 12) but the lowest at the Sancheong site (St. 18). Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), salinity, and Electrical Conductivity (EC) values were the highest in Gimhae and Yeongam based on Canonical Correspondence Analysis (CCA). Numbers of P. canaliculata (m-2) were relatively low in Gunsan and Iksan where water temperatures were high. Therefore, changes in geographical characteristics and environmental factors might affect the distribution of P. canaliculata and characteristics of benthic macroinvertebrate communities. Results of this study can be used as primary data for biodiversity conservation and ecosystem service evaluation in agroecosystems.
