(1S)-(+)-10-camphorsulfonic acid (CSA) and HCl were used together as a binary dopant in the electrodeposition of polyaniline (PAni). (+)-CSA and HCl were added in different mole ratios (9:1 and 6:4). (+)-CSA-doped and binary-doped PAni exhibited markedly different ultraviolet-visible and circular dichroism spectral characteristics due to differences in their conformations. Distinct helical structures are observed in the scanning electron microscopy images of (+)-CSA-doped PAni. The X-ray diffraction pattern of (+)-CSA-doped PAni exhibited remarkably higher crystallinity than that of HCl-doped PAni which is associated with the helical ordering along the polymer chains. The conformational changes due to the binary doping in chiral PAni had a significant effect on its chiroptical and electrochemical properties, morphology, and crystallinity, thus determined its conductivity.

Opening a bandgap by forming graphene nanoribbons (GNRs) and tailoring their properties via doping is a promising direction to achieve graphene-based advanced electronic devices. Applying a first-principles computational approach combining density functional theory (DFT) and DFT-based non-equilibrium Green's function (NEGF) calculation, we herein study the structural, electronic, and charge transport properties of boron-nitrogen binary edge doped GNRs and show that it can achieve novel doping effects that are absent for the single B or N doping. For the armchair GNRs, we find that the B-N edge co-doping almost perfectly recovers the conductance of pristine GNRs. For the zigzag GNRs, it is found to support spatially and energetically spin-polarized currents in the absence of magnetic electrodes or external gate fields: The spin-up (spin-down) currents along the B-N undoped edge and in the valence (conduction) band edge region. This may lead to a novel scheme of graphene band engineering and benefit the design of graphene-based spintronic devices.

Among various dopant candidates, nitrogen (N) atoms are considered as the most effective dopants to improve the diverse properties of graphene. Unfortunately, recent experimental and theoretical studies have revealed that different N-doped graphene (NGR) conformations can result in both p- and n-type characters depending on the bonding nature of N atoms (substitutional, pyridinic, pyrrolic, and nitrilic). To overcome this obstacle in achieving reliable graphene doping, we have carried out density functional theory calculations and explored the feasibility of converting p-type NGRs into n-type by introducing additional dopant candidates atoms (B, C, O, F, Al, Si, P, S, and Cl). Evaluating the relative formation energies of various binary-doped NGRs and the change in their electronic structure, we conclude that B and P atoms are promising candidates to achieve robust n-type NGRs. The origin of such p- to n-type change is analyzed based on the crystal orbital Hamiltonian population analysis. Implications of our findings in the context of electronic and energy device applications will be also discussed.

We apply a density functional theory (DFT) and DFT-based non-equilibrium Green's function approach to study the structures, energetics and charge transport characteristics of nitrogen-doped graphene and graphene nanoribbons (GNRs) with additional doping of phosphorus or boron atoms. Considering graphitic, pyridinic, and porphrin-like N doping sites and increasing N-doping concentration, we analyze the structures of N-P and N-B doped graphene and particularly focus on how they affect the charge transport along the lateral direction. For the GNRs, we also consider the differences between defects formed at the edge and bulk regions. Implications of our findings in the context of electronic and energy device applications will be also discussed.
We investigate co-doping effects of conjugated P-N B-N with increasing of N concentration in the graphene sheets using a first principles based on the density functional theory. N doping sites of the graphene consider two possible sites (pyridinic and porphyrin-like). Energy calculation shows that additional doping of B atom in the porphyrin-like N doped graphene ($V+B-N_x$) is hard to form. At the low chemical potential of N, one N atom with additional doping in the graphene ($V+P-N_1$, $P/B-N_1$) has low formation energy on the other hand at high chemical potential of N, high concentration of N ($V+P-N_4$, $P/B-N_3$) in the graphene is governing conformation. From the results of electronic band structure calculation, it is found that $V+P-N_4$ and $P/B-N_3$ cases change the Fermi energy therefore type change is occurred. On the other hand, the cases of $V+P-N_1$ and N+B recover the electronic structure of pristine graphene.
Binary-doped conducting chiral polyaniline (PAni) was synthesized by electrochemical polymerization of aniline at low-temperature ($0^{\circ}C$) and room-temperature (RT) conditions. (+)-Camphorsulfonic acid (CSA) and hydrochloric acid (HCl) were used as a binary dopant. Formation of the binary-doped PAni rather than a mixture of the corresponding single-doped PAni was confirmed by cyclic voltammogram, FT-IR and circular dichroism spectra. The temperature influenced the electrochemical behavior and doping level, thus determining the crystallinity and morphology of the PAni. However, among other results, morphology of the PAni is found to be most strongly depends on the polymerization temperature. With increased temperature from the initial state to RT, morphology of the PAni changed from fibrous to short-fibrous structure. The sheet resistance of the PAni films on an ITO was measured by using four-point probe dc method.

In this paper, effect of catalytic configuration on the sensing properties of $SnO_2$ nanoparticle gas sensitive thick film was investigated. Two types of catalytic configuration, mono and binary, were made on the $SnO_2$ nanoparticle. In case of mono catalytic system, $3 wt\%$ Pd or Pt catalyst was doped onto the $SnO_2$ nanoparticle, respectively. In case of binary catalytic system, Pd and Pt was doped simultaneously with concentration ratio of 1:2 to 2:1 onto the $SnO_2$ nanoparticle. After doping, gas sensitive thick film was printed on alumina substrate and heat-treated at 450 to $600^{\circ}C$. Gas sensing properties was evaluated using 500 to 10,000 ppm $CH_4$ gas. As a result, gas sensitive thick film with binary catalytic system showed unstable phenomena that the gas sensitivity was changed according to aging time. In contrary, the mono catalytic system showed relatively stable phenomena despite of aging time. Especially, gas sensitive thick film doped with $3 wt\%$ Pt catalyst and heat-treated at $500^{\circ}C$ showed good sensing properties such as 0.57 of $R_{3500}/R_{1000}$ and very small variation within $3.5\%$ after aging for 5 hours, and response time was very short less than 20 seconds.

Recently, Thin film transistors (TFTs) with amorphous oxide semiconductors (AOSs) can offer an important aspect for next generation displays with high mobility. Several oxide semiconductor such as ZnO, $SnO_2$ and InGaZnO have been extensively researched. Especially, as a well-known binary metal oxide, tin oxide ($SnO_2$), usually acts as n-type semiconductor with a wide band gap of 3.6eV. Over the past several decades intensive research activities have been conducted on $SnO_2$ in the bulk, thin film and nanostructure forms due to its interesting electrical properties making it a promising material for applications in solar cells, flat panel displays, and light emitting devices. But, its application to the active channel of TFTs have been limited due to the difficulties in controlling the electron density and n-type of operation with depletion mode. In this study, we fabricated staggered bottom-gate structure $SnO_2$-TFTs and patterned channel layer used a shadow mask. Then we compare to the performance intrinsic $SnO_2$-TFTs and doping hafnium $SnO_2$-TFTs. As a result, we suggest that can be control the defect formation of $SnO_2$-TFTs by doping hafnium. The hafnium element into the $SnO_2$ thin-films maybe acts to control the carrier concentration by suppressing carrier generation via oxygen vacancy formation. Furthermore, it can be also control the mobility. And bias stability of $SnO_2$-TFTs is improvement using doping hafnium. Enhancement of device stability was attributed to the reduced defect in channel layer or interface. In order to verify this effect, we employed to measure activation energy that can be explained by the thermal activation process of the subthreshold drain current.

In order to acquire fundamental informations to fabricate high precision thin film resistors, NiCr/NiCrSi alloy films were prepared using Ni and Cr targets. Effect of composition on the electrical properties of the NiCr/NiCrSi alloy film were then investigated. Considering the effect of Si doping on the electrical and material characteristics, the lower TCR (temperature coefficient of resistance) values could be achieved for samples with Ni/Cr ratio of $0.8{\sim}1.5$ (in a range of relative higher specific resistivity and Cr composition of $40\;wt%{\sim}55\;wt%$) and with Si doping. Consequently, the sample prepared using a DC power showed a good TCR of $-25\;ppm/^{\circ}C$, which implies that increase of specific resistivity and decrease of TCR would be achieved more efficiently not for Ni-Cr binary material but for Si doped Ni-Cr ternary material, and not using RF power but using DC power in the sputtering process.

Recently, $Bi_2Te_3$-based alloys are the best thermoelectric materials near to room temperature, so it has been researched to achieve increased figure of merit(ZT). Ternary compounds such as Bi-Te-Se and Bi-Sb-Te have higher thermoelectric property than binary compound Bi-Te and Sb-Te, respectively. Compared to DC plating method, pulsed electrodeposition is able to control parameters including average current density, and on/off pulse time etc. Thereby the morphology and properties of the films can be improved. In this study, we electrodeposited n-type ternary Cu-doped $Bi_2(Te-Se)_3$ thin film by modified pulse technique at room temperature. To further enhance thermoelectric properties of $Bi_2(Te-Se)_3$ thin film, we optimized Cu doping concentration in $Bi_2(Te-Se)_3$ thin film and correlated it to electrical and thermoelectric properties. Thus, the crystal, electrical, and thermoelectric properties of electrodeposited $Bi_2(Te-Se)_3$ thin film were characterized the XRD, SEM, EDS, Seebeck measurement, and Hall effect measurement, respectively. As a result, the thermoelectric properties of Cu-doped $Bi_2(Te-Se)_3$ thin films were observed that the Seebeck coefficient is $-101.2{\mu}V/K$ and the power factor is $1412.6{\mu}W/mK^2$ at 10 mg of Cu weight. The power factor of Cu-doped $Bi_2(Te-Se)_3$ thin film is 1.4 times higher than undoped $Bi_2(Te-Se)_3$ thin film.
