This paper has a goal to construct monitoring web GIS system which displays maps that are results of the fire detecting algorithms using MODIS image. To design and build more efficient system, foreign fire monitoring systems using satellite image are researched and analyzed. As a result of that, the information about interfaces and services provided by them are obtained. In concretely, new logical DFD is used to do a process modelling. ArcIMS 4.0 of ESRI, IIS 5.1 of Microsoft are utilized to build the web GIS System. In the aspects of data input and transfer, a specific module, which converts a binary image to a kind of vector file, is developed to adjust raster data to the web GIS system.
Placing sensors at appropriate locations is an important task in the design of an efficient structural health monitoring (SHM) system for a large-scale civil structure. In this paper, a hybrid optimization algorithm called virus monkey algorithm (VMA) based on the virus theory of evolution is proposed to seek the optimal placement of sensors. Firstly, the dual-structure coding method is adopted instead of binary coding method to code the solution. Then, the VMA is designed to incorporate two populations, a monkey population and a virus population, enabling the horizontal propagation between the monkey and virus individuals and the vertical inheritance of monkey's position information from the previous to following position. Correspondingly, the monkey population in this paper is divided into the superior and inferior monkey populations, and the virus population is divided into the serious and slight virus populations. The serious virus is used to infect the inferior monkey to make it escape from the local optima, while the slight virus is adopted to infect the superior monkey to let it find a better result in the nearby area. This kind of novel virus infection operator enables the coevolution of monkey and virus populations. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed VMA is demonstrated by designing the sensor network of the Canton Tower, the tallest TV Tower in China. Results show that innovations in the VMA proposed in this paper can improve the convergence of algorithm compared with the original monkey algorithm (MA).
The aim of this study is to provide vapor-liquid equilibrium (VLE) information for the study of process which directly synthesize dimethyl carbonate (DMC) from $CO_2$. For this study we collected some necessary VLE systems data of Methanol-Water, Methanol-DMC, $CO_2$-DMC, $CO_2$-Methanol, $CO_2$-Methanol, and performed VLE calculation with Peng-Robinson equation of state, Wong-Sandler mixing rules that widely used in chemical industry. These calculation results relatively agreed with VLE data well. Optimized Parameters of EoS given through this calculation will be used as some valuable information for fundamental study, process development and process optimization of DMC direct synthesis.

Spent resin waste containing a high concentration of $^{14}C$ radionuclide cannot be disposed of directly. A fundamental study on selective $^{14}C$ stripping, especially from the IRN-150 mixed bed resin, was carried out. In single ion-exchange equilibrium isotherm experiments, the ion adsorption capacity of the fresh resin for non-radioactive $HCO_3{^-}$ ion, as the chemical form of $^{14}C$, was evaluated as 11mg-C/g-resin. Adsorption affinity of anions to the resin was derived in order of $NO_3{^-}$ > $HCO_3{^-}{\geq}H_2PO_4{^-}$. Thus the competitive adsorption affinity of $NO_3{^-}$ ion in binary systems appeared far higher than that of $HCO_3{^-}$ or $H_2PO_4{^-}$, and the selective desorption of $HCO_3{^-}$ from the resin was very effective. On one hand, the affinity of $Co^{2+}$ and $Cs^+$ for the resin remained relatively higher than that of other cations in the same stripping solution. Desorption of $Cs^+$ was minimized when the summation of the metal ions in the spent resin and the other cations in solution was near saturation and the pH value was maintained above 4.5. Among the various solutions tested, from the view-point of the simple second waste process, $NH_4H_2PO_4$ solution was preferable for the stripping of $^{14}C$ from the spent resin.
Photoelectric observations of close binary stars, AO Cam and AW Cam, were made during the 1984 observing season with the 61cm reflector at the Sobaeksan Observatory. One time of primary minimum for AO Cam and three primary epochs for AW Cam were derived from the observations of these two systems. Times of minimum light of these two binaries collected from literature were analyzed with a least square fitting method. New improved light elements for AO Cam and AW Cam were determined. The orbital period of AO Cam had been constant from Octobar, 1980 (JD 244520) to February, 1985 (JD 2446107). However, one secondary time of minimum (JD 2447864.7879) of AO Cam published recently by Mullis and Faulkner(1991) shows large deviation of about 4.6 minutes ($0^d.0032$) from the one predicted by our new light elements. Future observations of times of minima for this system are needed to test this period change. The orbital period of AW Cam has been constant as P=$0^d.77134645$ for about sixty years from the early 1930's to the present.

In fingerprint verification and identification, fingerprint and background region should be segmented. For this purpose, most systems obtain variance of brightness of X and Y direction using Sobel mask. To decide given local region is background or not, the variance is compared with a certain threshold. Although this method is simple, most fingerprint image does not separated with two region of fingerprint and background region. In this paper, we presented a new segmentation algorithm based on Run-Length Connectivity analysis. For a given binary image after thresholding, suggested algorithm calculates RL of X and Y direction. Until the given image is segmented to two regions, small run region is successively inverted. Experimental result show that this algorithm effectively separates fingerprint region and background region.

This paper proposes the fast OVSF code generation method using the multi-stage spreading scheme based on the single code indexing scheme. The conventional OVSF indexing scheme based on the code-tree structure uses two numbers as the codeword indices, the layer number and the code number of the corresponding layer. However, the single code index number implicitly includes the information of the spreading factor as well as the code number. Since the binary representation of the single code indices shows the pattern of the codeword, the orthogonality between two different codewords can be determined by comparing their code indices instead of much longer codewords. The above useful property also makes the codeword can be generated directly kom its single code index. In this paper, the multi-stage spreading scheme is applied to generate the long code by spreading two shorter codewords with the appropriate code indices. The proposed fast code generation algorithm is designed for 3GPP UMTS systems and verified by the simulations.
The DEEP-South (the Deep Ecliptic Patrol of the Southern Sky) photometric census of small Solar System bodies produces massive time-series data of variable, transient or moving objects as a by-product. To fully investigate unexplored variable phenomena, we present an application of multi-aperture photometry and FastBit indexing techniques for faster access to a portion of the DEEP-South year-one data. Our new pipeline is designed to perform automated point source detection, robust high-precision photometry and calibration of non-crowded fields which have overlap with previously surveyed areas. In this paper, we show some examples of catalog-based variability searches to find new variable stars and to recover targeted asteroids. We discover 21 new periodic variables with period ranging between 0.1 and 31 days, including four eclipsing binary systems (detached, over-contact, and ellipsoidal variables), one white dwarf/M dwarf pair candidate, and rotating variable stars. We also recover astrometry (< ${\pm}1-2$ arcsec level accuracy) and photometry of two targeted near-earth asteroids, 2006 DZ169 and 1996 SK, along with the small- (~0.12 mag) and relatively large-amplitude (~0.5 mag) variations of their dominant rotational signals in R-band.
The focus in this paper is on obtaining tight, simple algebraic-form bounds and invertible expressions for the average symbol error probability (ASEP) of M-ary phase shift keying (MPSK) in a class of composite fading channels. We employ the mixture gamma (MG) distribution to approximate the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) distributions of fading models, which include Nakagami-m, Generalized-K ($K_G$), and Nakagami-lognormal fading as specific examples. Our approach involves using the tight upper and lower bounds that we recently derived on the Gaussian Q-function, which can easily be averaged over the general MG distribution. First, algebraic-form upper bounds are derived on the ASEP of MPSK for M > 2, based on the union upper bound on the symbol error probability (SEP) of MPSK in additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) given by a single Gaussian Q-function. By comparison with the exact ASEP results obtained by numerical integration, we show that these upper bounds are extremely tight for all SNR values of practical interest. These bounds can be employed as accurate approximations that are invertible for high SNR. For the special case of binary phase shift keying (BPSK) (M = 2), where the exact SEP in the AWGN channel is given as one Gaussian Q-function, upper and lower bounds on the exact ASEP are obtained. The bounds can be made arbitrarily tight by adjusting the parameters in our Gaussian bounds. The average of the upper and lower bounds gives a very accurate approximation of the exact ASEP. Moreover, the arbitrarily accurate approximations for all three of the fading models we consider become invertible for reasonably high SNR.

Binary offset carrier (BOC) signal synchronization is one of the most important steps to recover the transmitted information in global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) including Galileo and global positioning system (GPS). Generally, BOC signal synchronization is based on the correlation between the received and locally generated BOC signals. Thus, the multiple side-peaks in BOC autocorrelation are one of the main error sources in synchronizing BOC signals. Recently, a novel correlation function with reduced side-peaks was proposed for BOC signal synchronization by Julien [8]; however, Julien's correlation function not only still has the side-peaks, but also is only applicable to sine phased BOC(n, n), where n is the ratio of the pseudo random noise (PRN) code rate to 1.023 MHz. In this paper, we propose a new correlation function for BOC signal synchronization, which does not have any side-peaks and is applicable to general types of BOC signals, sine/cosine phased BOC(kn, n), where k is the ratio of a PRN chip duration to the period of a square wave sub-carrier used in BOC modulation. In addition, an efficient correlator structure is presented for generating the proposed correlation function.
