  • This paper presents long-term electricity market analysis simulation considering Genco's strategy using P-POOL. In the competitive electricity market, system operation and/or market operation is highly depended on the participants' intention and his planning. We focus on the Genco's strategy, including maintenance scheduling and bidding strategy. And we represent his profit using 3-Bus sample system.

  • Nash equilibrium is usually used to investigate a generator's strategic bidding in electricity markets. Some literatures show that the transmission constraints may induce no pure strategy equilibrium and make it hard to find the equilibrium. Using an analytical approach to find a mixed strategy Nash equilibrium in electricity market with transmission constraints, we analyze the influence of transmission capacity on the mixed strategy Nash equilibrium. Finally, a simple numerical example is provided to support the claims of this paper.

  • Task allocation is a key problem in multiagent systems. The importance of automated negotiation protocols for solving the task allocation problem is increasing as a consequence of increased multi-agent applications. In this paper, we introduce the multiagent Traveling Salesman Problem(TSP) as an example of task reallocation problem, and suggest Vickery auction as an inter-agent coordination mechanism for solving this problem. In order to apply this market-based coordination mechanism into multiagent TSPs, we define the profit of each agent, the ultimate goal of negotiation, cities to be traded out through auctions, the bidding strategy, and the order of auctions. The primary advantage of such approach is that it can find an optimal task allocation ...

  • The construction environment has the trend of oversizing and professionalizing, the increase of the construction period, and the risk factors and the uncertain factors which are important in the construction bid. The misunderstanding and the lack of knowledge of the subcontractor result in the decrease of the profit or the deficit. In conclusion, these are supposed to give the financial burden to the subcontractor. So, it is very important to predict the construction preparation cost calculation by the risk factors in the bidding stage and to calculate the bid unit cost considering the target profit of the subcontractor in the process of the mutual agreement and performance of the contract. In these points of view, this study analyzes how the importance of the risks influencing the bidding cost calculation affect the construction cost, and this analysis can be used as the basic data to establish the suitable bid strategy of the subcontractor.

  • As the level of competition has increased in the construction management market, it becomes a critical issue for CM firms to secure competitive edges. The objective of the study is to investigate elements of competitive strategy as perceived by CM firms and to discuss key features and implications. Michael Porter's Competitive Strategy Model was used as a framework to analyse the elements under three strategy categories. A major finding includes that Differentiation Strategy is generally perceived most important strategy category but, depending on the group to which a CM firm belongs, there exist a gap in the perception. However, regardless of the group, Cost Leadership is commonly considered least important strategy category. In particular, lowest-bidding strategy element showed the least importance. Understanding CM firms' perceptions on elements of competitive strategy provides an insight into CM firms' current strategy directions and can be useful for future tuning in a firms' own strategy.

  • Auctions have been traditionally used to find the current price of goods when little is known about their true value. A special auction methodology, called a 'simultaneous multiple round auction', is available to auction radiofrequency spectrum where all lots are simultaneously on of for over multiple rounds of bidding. This type of auction is especially useful when there are lots that are of essentially equal value and substitutable, except that different bidders may prefer different combinations of lots. By using multiple rounds, a bidder has the opportunity to gather information concerning the value of individual lots and can change strategy by shifting the bidding to another preferred combination if one combination becomes too expensive. Information is released in three main ways during an auction: Bidder Status; High Bids; and Bandwidth Value.

  • The dynamic nature of the A/E/C industry, rapidly changing global market environments, and lowest cost competitive bidding make it difficult to survive in global design markets. To understand the global design markets, a case study has been undertaken. The top 150 global design firms represented in the ENR (Engineering News Record) from 1995 to 2003 are classified into three groups for the case study. First group is the firms which advanced in rank from 1995. Second group is the firms which maintained its rank from 1994 until 2003. Third group is the firms which went down in rank from 1995 until 2003. However, finding key factors and changing business strategies of successful top design firms are the fundamental goals in this paper. After examinations of case studies, this paper concludes and suggests that professionalization, M&A strategies, patrons of the government, and academic support are needed to be successful in the global design & engineering industry.

  • In new deregulated electricity market, short-term price forecasting is key information for all market players. A better forecast of market-clearing price (MCP) helps market participants to strategically set up their bidding strategies for energy markets in the short-term. This paper presents a new prediction strategy to improve the need for more accurate short-term price forecasting tool at spot market using an artificial neural networks (ANNs). To build the forecasting ANN model, a three-layered feedforward neural network trained by the improved Levenberg-marquardt (LM) algorithm is used to forecast the locational marginal prices (LMPs). To accurately predict LMPs, actual power generation and load are considered as the input sets, and then the difference is used to predict price differences in the spot market. The proposed ANN model generalizes the relationship between the LMP in each area and the unconstrained MCP during the same period of time. The LMP calculation is iterated so that the capacity between the areas is maximized and the mechanism itself helps to relieve grid congestion. The addition of flow between the areas gives the LMPs a new equilibrium point, which is balanced when taking the transfer capacity into account, LMP forecasting is then possible. The proposed forecasting strategy is tested on the spot market of the Nord Pool. The validity, the efficiency, and effectiveness of the proposed approach are shown by comparing with time-series models
