  • In development of an advanced bicycle simulator, the investigation of the interactions between bicycle and rider during cycling is paramount important because bicycle is a two-wheeled human-powered vehicle. Tn this work, the tilt stability. among various interactions, of bicycling is investigated experimentally, In the experiments, the tilt angles of the bicycle, riders body and head are measured, as the riding p;1th and the speed are varied. Subjects are asked to ride along four typical paths on rigid flat ground : the straight, C-curved, S-curved and circle paths. The results from extensive experiments with different subjects can be summarized as : 1) The tilt angles of bicycle and rider are almost out of phase during pedaling along the straight path. 2) The bicycle tilt angle is nearly proportional to the square of bicycle speed for the straight and curved paths, and to the curvature for the curved paths. The head tilt angle is the biggest and the body tilt angle is the smallest for the straight path, but the tendency is reversed for the C-curved path. During the curve maneuvering, the rider's head tends to tilt by less than 40% of the bicycle tilt angle.

  • Dijkstra's algorithm is one of well-known methods to find shortest paths over a network. However, more research on $A^*$ algorithm is necessary to discover the shortest route to a goal point with the heuristic information rather than Dijkstra's algorithm which aims to find a path considering only the shortest distance to any point for an optimal path search. Therefore, in this paper, we compared Dijkstra's algorithm and $A^*$ algorithm for bicycle route selection. For this purpose, the horizontal distance according to slope angle and average speed were calculated based on factors which influence bicycle route selection. And bicycle routes were selected considering the shortest distance or time-dependent shortest path using Dijkstra's or $A^*$ algorithm. The result indicated that the $A^*$ algorithm performs faster than Dijkstra's algorithm on processing time in large study areas. For the future, optimal path selection algorithm can be used for bicycle route plan or a real-time mobile services.

  • Bicycle is one of convenient transportation system. In this paper, we derive a more precise kinematics of bicycle system compared with other ones which were suggested by other researchers. In the derivation of kinematics we adopted a physical concept called virtual wheel. We also propose an algorithm for deriving inverse kinematics of a bicycle system. In this paper, the meaning of inverse kinematics is to find the time functions of steering angle and driving wheel speed for a given desired path trajectory. From the computer simulation, we show the validity of our proposed algorithm for inverse kinematics of bicycle system.

  • The purpose of this study is providing an evaluation criteria for appropriateness of bicycle riding path considering trip purpose based on cyclist's response of importance and satisfaction. The survey presents a quantified criteria of evaluating appropriateness of the bicycle path by investigating difference of impotance and satisfaction between two purposes among 5 selected influence factors about bicycle lane and bicycle parking facility, and in case of commuting purpose, information of destination is additionally considered. All the influence factors are analyzed by Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) which yields importance. For the factors which have a huge difference between two purposes, evaluation criteria using a GIS Data of respondent's path and satisfaction of each factors is developed, and other factors are made it by reviewing literature. The importance analyzed by AHP and evaluation criteria can provide a path based LOS for cyclist, and this information can be improved through user's response from app or search engine in the future. and by considering individual's evaluation, it can provide individually specified information.

  • In this papers, we derive a simple kinematic and dynamic formulation of an unmanned electric bicycle. We also check the controllability of the stabilization problem of bicycle. We propose a new control algorithm for the self stabilization of unmanned bicycle with bounded wheel speed and steering angle by using nonlinear control based on the sliding patch and stuck phenomena which was introduced by W. Ham. We also propose a sort of optimal control strategy for steering angle and driving wheel speed that make the length of bicycle\`s path be the shortest. From the computer simulation results, we prove the validity of the proposed control algorithm.

  • Due to the recent emergence of global warming concerns, the UN has made the issue of climate change its top priority. Accordingly, Korea has announced a new national master plan titled, 'Participation in global efforts in climate change through -Low Carbon, Green Growth-'. As part of the plan, the constructions of bicycle path networks are being pushed forward. Although the building of bicycle paths and infrastructure is being implemented, little consideration has been given for bicycle path signage. This essay is the study of methodology in the installation of signs on bicycle paths. The research includes a theoretical study of the standard and installation position of signs with consideration of the geometry of bicycles as well issues such as the distance required for the bicyclist to recognize and understand the road sign and to take actions like stopping, In addition, experimental verification of the test results has been carried out. Also, the test on height of signs by changing the installation heights according to a bicyclist's forward vision angle has been conducted.

  • Recent planning for bicycle use is relatively low compared to other studies. Although studies for the bicycle roads accessibility are actively underway, those considering topographical elements and characteristics of the user behaviors are very limited. Choosing paths of cyclists is typically influenced by slopes and intersections as well as optimal distance. This study presents a method to find optimal paths considering topographical elements in case of choosing paths for school commuting using bicycles. Conversion formulae suggested here are tested on a Songpa area using round-trip directions and compared with traditional optimal path computation.

  • The world's major cities operate public rental bicycle systems to complement the existing problems of public transport in the city. Disclosing the rental history data in Daejeon has opened new analytical possibilities. In this paper, we proposed a method to analyze the data using the visualization. We found a positional feature of the station according to the bicycle usage. In addition, we examined the bicycle usage patterns according to the time/day/month. On the other hand, the usage patterns between each of the bicycle stations were identified through a path analysis. The specific objectives were identified through each stop destination ratio analysis. Based on these data, we suggest a direction of Daejeon public bicycle rental system development.

  • This paper describes the quantitative analysis on the improvement of equilibrium sensory using virtual bicycle system. We have used a virtual bicycle system that combines virtual reality technology with a bicycle. In this experiment, 10 subjects were tested to investigate the influencing factors on equilibrium sensory. Straight road and curved road driving at several factors including cycling time, number of times of path deviation, and center of pressure(COP) were extracted and evaluated to quantify the extent of control. Also, To improve the effect of balance training, we investigated the usefulness of virtual feedback information by weight shift. The result showed that the system could be effective for equilibrium sensory rehabilitation training device. The analysis method might also have wider applicability to the rehabilitation field.
