The Effect of Visual Feedback Bicycle Training on Maximal Oxygen Uptake, Quadriceps Muscle Strength, and Running Performance in Healthy Young Adults

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of visual feedback bicycle training on running performance, maximal oxygen uptake and quadriceps muscle strength. Design: A randomized controlled trial. Methods: Fifteen healthy adult men with no musculoskeletal or nervous system disease and capable of bicycle training were included. After the pretest, subjects were randomly assigned to visual feedback bicycle training group and general fixed bicycle training group. Both groups were trained two times a week for three weeks, each week for a fixed time and number of repetitions, followed by a six week washout period and then crossing the training method. visual feedback bicycle training provides visual feedback of heart rate in real time using a monitor and a heart rate meter during bicycle training, and general fixed bicycle training performed general bicycle training without visual feedback. After training, each item was measured using a wearable technology, gas analyzer, isokinetic equipment. Results: The results of this study was significant differences in running performance, maximal oxygen uptake and quadriceps muscle strength in visual feedback bicycle training group (p<0.05). The differential effect was found between visual feedback bicycle training group and general fixed bicycle training group in running performance, maximal oxygen uptake, and quadriceps muscle strength (p<0.05). Conclusions: This study suggested that that visual feedback bicycle training can be applied as a useful training method to improve running performance, maximal oxygen uptake and quadriceps muscle strength.

자전거 및 PMV(Personal Mobility Vehicle) 사용자의 주행 특성 및 헬멧 착용 실태 조사 (A Survey on Riding Characteristics and Helmet Wearing Conditions of Bicycle and PMV(Personal Mobility Vehicle) Riders)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the differences in riding characteristics and helmet wearing conditions between bicycle and PMV riders so that the basis data necessary for the development of suitable helmets for each group is provided. For this purpose, riding characteristics and helmet wearing conditions of bicycle and PMV users were investigated using online survey method and then the survey results were interpreted by in-depth interview conducted for bicycle and PMV users. The online survey results showed that the PMV group showed shorter driving distance and more driving frequency than bicycle group. This short driving distance was due to the limitation of battery capacity of PMVs. Helmet wearing rate was significantly lower in PMV group than in bicycle group, which was associated with relatively low chances to drive long distance on the motorway. In the PMV group, the 'urban helmets' were mainly used, in which the appearance of helmet was priorized, but in the bicycle group, the 'road cycle helmets' were mainly used, in which the light weight or ventilation were priorized. Urban helmets caused stronger pain and more fitting problems than road cycle helmets because the head shapes of Koreans were not properly applied to the helmet design. Since the fitting problem and pain intensity were the important causes that making PMV users not wear the helmets, it is necessary to develop the urban helmets reflecting the head shapes of Koreans in order to increase the helmet wearing rate of the PMV users.

  • This paper represents a study on the conceptual design of new automatic bicycle transmission. The gear change in a commercial bicycle is carried out by moving the chain between sprockets. By the use of a multiple sprocket for speed change the power loss and transmission shock may occur. To solve the problem of bicycle transmission, the improved solution was derived by the technical contradiction matrix of TRIZ. The conceptual solution is one sprocket which replaces the function of multiple sprockets and adapts actively to the pitch of chain. And it was confirmed to be an adequate design through the Independence Axiom of design axiom.

서울시 자전거 보관소의 개선방안 -서울시 지하철 연계 환승 보관소를 중심으로- (A study on bicycle storage improvement in Seoul -Focusing on the bicycle storage in Seoul subway transit links-)

  • 서울시는 대체 교통수단으로서의 자전거 분담률을 높이기 위해 매년 자전거 이용시설정비 및 관리계획을 꾸준히 발표하고 있지만 지난 10년간의 자전거 분담률은 거의 제자리에 머물렀고 이용객들은 여전히 관련 시설물 이용에 불편을 겪고 있다. 이런 문제점은 지하철과 같은 대중교통과의 연계 교통수단으로서의 자전거 활용도를 떨어트리고 있다. 본 연구는 이와 같은 문제점의 해결 방안을 모색하기 위해 자전거 분담률이 높은 선진국, 네덜란드, 독일, 일본의 사례를 분석하고 환승 이용객 수가 많은 서울시 지하철역인 신도림역의 사례와 비교하여 적용 가능한 해결 방안을 살펴보았다. 독일, 네덜란드의 사례에서는 지하철 환승객에게 자전거와 대중교통의 연계를 돕고 다양한 편의를 제공하는 자전거 주차 시스템을 살펴보았고, 일본의 사례에서는 지하 매립형 타워 형태의 자전거 주차장 등과 같은 협소한 공간에 많은 자전거 수용이 가능하며 보안의 측면이나 접근성 또한 우수한 새로운 보관소의 형태를 살펴보았다. 서울시의 자전거 분담률을 높이기 위해서 시설의 양적 증가보다는 현재 시설물의 사용성 문제를 파악하고 사용자 관점에서 접근하여 주차시설에 대한 서비스와 형태적인 해결방안이 요구된다.

  • 탄소섬유가 차세대 자전거 프레임의 소재로 자리잡아감에 따라 각 제조사별로 탄소섬유 프레임 개발을 위한 연구가 활발하게 진행되고 있으며, 현재도 탄소섬유의 강성, 내구성, 충격흡수, 경량화, 강도를 중시하며 개발되고 있다. 또한 탄소섬유 자전거모델은 고가 제품으로써, 이에 맞는 개성적이고 차별화된 디자인 컨셉의 제품이 필요하며, 기본적으로 요구되는 구조 역학적 프레임의 개발이 중요하고, 안전성과 조형성이 뛰어난 제품개발과 무엇보다도 자기만의 아이덴티티(Identity)가 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 소비자 요구의 조사연구와 이미지 분석의 과정을 통해 개성적이고 통일된 이미지를 도출하였고, 본 디자인 개발에서는 최근 수요가 급증하고 있는 로드형 자전거를 타켓으로 잡아 탄소섬유를 소재로 한 자전거 프레임 디자인을 개발하고 제안하였다.

볼트체결을 이용한 하이브리드 자전거 모노코크 프레임 개발 프로세스 (Development Process of Monocoque Frame for Hybrid Bicycle using Bolt Fastening)

  • This paper presents the development process for a bicycle monocoque frame using bolt fastening. Traditionally, bicycle frames have been constructed with metal tubes joined at their ends by welding. These frames have been brazed or soldered onto metal lugs, forming the frame. Because stress loads become greatest at the joint of the bicycle tube frame, joint construction strongly influences frame design and construction. To avoid the inherent problems of material discontinuity at frame joints, numerous designers have attempted to reduce or eliminate the number of joints in tube frames. Nevertheless, the manufacture of high quality, reliable, one-piece and jointless frames has proven difficult and expensive. In this study, a new monocoque frame adapted to a hybrid bike is proposed. The advantage of the monocoque frame, is theat is has a rechargeable battery system that is built into the frame; as a result, the emotional quality for the customer is improved. In order to estimate the design compatibility compared with that of tube frames, structural analysis is performed using finite element method. A prototype based on a modified design has also been made and stability testing has been carried out.

부품 형상 정보 모델 기반의 자전거 편집설계 방법 (Method of Bicycle Configuration Design Based on Part-Shape Information Model)

  • The core activities of a bicycle manufacturer are design, engineering analysis, and manufacturing. Therefore, it is important to develop a configuration design system for bicycles in order to automate the design process and facilitate the use of design data in engineering analysis and manufacturing. In this paper, we present a method to develop a bicycle configuration design system based on the part-shape information model. The proposed method enables the construction of a CAD library using modeling functions with equations and parameters that are common to most 3D mechanical CAD systems. Furthermore, the part-shape information model ensures the independence between the configuration design system and the library, making it possible to extend the CAD library flexibly without changing the system architecture.

  • In this paper, research of unmanned electric bicycle based on autonomic traveling is discussed. We derived dynamic equation of bicycle and introduced control theory that bicycle´s tilt angle and velocity is stable in some region. We implemented system using DSP processor, accelerometer and DC motor. Then, we carried out an experiment based on studied Control theory.
