  • Today, the control and criteria of design for apartment site are heavily dependent on laws and ordinance in Korea. But they are indefinite and some part which are deficient in laws and ordinance, are dependent on professional judgement. So trey are not consistent and there are many problems in their applications. The purpose of this study is to suggest fundamental date for the future establishment of better control and criteria, by way of evaluation method about existing control and criteria of design in apartment site in the country. The method of this study is reviewing the present laws and ordinance, carrying out the questionaire survey and making a comparative analysis by doing various statistical analyses. The results of this are as follows; 1) More definite criteria of site density are necessary. 2) Stricter criteria and control about the orientation are indispensible for more efficient use of site. 3) More diverse facilities must be provided. 4) The laws and ordinance must be strengthened for the purpose of increasing the landscape area. 5) It is desirable to provide the criteria of bicycle road to save energy. 6) The facilities criteria for the physically handicapped must be strengthened. 7) The mechanism for the reflection of habitant's attitudes and beliefs should be established. 8) It's necessary to simplify the permission procedure to save tilde and money.

  • This work intends to investigate the effects of pedaling directions on the muscle actions during the bicycle's uphill propulsion. A test rig was developed that consists of a bicyle with a special planetary geartrain, a height-adjustable treadmill, a rear-wheel support and a magnetic brake. A three-dimensional motion analysis was performed for measuring kinematic characteristics of the forward backward pedaling and the electromygraphy(EMG) measurements were simultaneously performed for estimating the muscle actions of the leg. In this work, four muscles are considered including Gastrocnemius muscle(GM), Vastus lateralis(VL), Tibialis anterior(TA) and Soleus(SOL) while the uphill slope is varied from $0^{\circ}$ to $6^{\circ}$. Raw EMG signals were first processed through the root-mean-square(RMS) averaging and then ensemble curves were derived by averaging the EMG RMS envelopes over 50 consecutive cycles. Results show that both the kinemactic characteristics and the muscle actions are significantly affected by the pedaling direction. The crank speed of the forward pedaling is higher but the difference in speed is reduced as the slope is increased. The ensemble curves of the :ac signals clearly exhibit some differences in their patterns, peak values and the corresponding locations with respect to the crank angle. The peak values of most EMG signals are higher for the forward pedaling regardless of the slope magnitude. However, the averages of the EMG signals are not observed to have a similar relationship with the pedaling direction, which seems to be affected by several factors such as less experience of the participants' backward pedaling. inappropriate bicycle design for the backward pedaling. These limitations will be further considered in future work.

  • As the aging population has increased, the silver generation is getting to account for the considerable percent of economic activities and becomes the main body of production and consumption. Although the economic activity of silver generation is increased, the development of silver contents for the leisure activities is still not revitalized. The serious silver contents and the easy-to-use interface are very important because the silver generation is relatively weaker than young people in perception, studying, and exercise, and is fragile in mobility and vitality. This paper suggests methods to develop sensory bicycle, gate ball, and mole game contents haying lower body exercise effects for the silver generation to utilize leisure and maintain health. Along with fun as games, functional design factors suitable to the cognitive ability and bodily activity ability of the silver generation were considered and through sensory intefaces that are easy for the silver generation to use and customized progressing methods complying with individual characteristics, it was attempted to induce continued interests and lower body exercise effects.

  • This paper deals with the aspects of die design for the multistage fine tooth hub gear in the cold forging process. In order to manufacture the cold forged product for the precision hub gear used as the ARD 370 system of bicycle, it examines the influences of different designs on the metal flow through experiments and FE-simulation. To find the combination of design parameters which minimize the damage value, the low gear length, upper gear length and inner diameter as design parameters are considered. An orthogonal fraction factorial experiment is employed to study the influence of each parameter on the objective function or characteristics. The optimal punch shape of fine tooth hub gear is designed using the results of FE-simulation and the artificial neural network. To verify the optimal punch shape, the experiments of the cold forging of the hub gear are executed.

  • This study is to understand the problems of cycle wear. Interviews and surveys were done to target male and female cyclists in order to understand the wearing conditions and satisfaction of cycle wearers. A total of 443 surveys were used to analyze demographic information, inconvenience and design preference. The average age of male respondents was 34.45 and females was 33.39. The majority were in their 20s and 30s. As for the bicycle riding time, 41.9% of females cycled in the morning and 39.5% cycled in the evening. For men, 44.7% of males cycled in the evening and 33.3% cycled in the morning. The number of cycle wear owned by female respondents were higher than men. Quick water-absorbent and drying properties were considered as important functionality in cycle wear for 87.8% of males and females. When wearing cycle wear, it was found that females felt more discomfort than males in terms of jersey top length. The study results indicated that cycle wear wearing conditions were different according to gender.

  • This study illustrates a prototype proposal and its evaluation for the development of floor plans in the condominium housing remodeling. For this I evaluated the survey of the residents of the 'K' town in Joonge-dong, Nowon-gu, Seoul, against the proposal which was developed based on the resident's pre-survey. The result includes that the residents' preference for community actions such as the removal of fences which are reviewed as negative, whereas the introduction of a fitness center and community facilities in the library are reviewed as positive. The residents preferred the open space by the piloti structure, although which is the wall column structure, where they anticipated a rest area, sports facilities, and bicycle drop-off spots. The sidewall proposal in the main building and the full use of the roof floor were underestimated in terms of design concept. The research also illustrated the residents' desired space planning options, those tending to use of space 'B type', personalization 'C type' and spatial size 'A type'. Residents responded positively to the introduction of the 'Alpha' space in which two households share one space that could be used for multiple purposes such as a rest area, an environment-friendly garden, and hobby room, etc, and also there is another possibility it plays an important role to the sociality in community.

  • Bikers can be subjected to accidents during their bicycling. Helmets are only good, if any, for their head protection. A wearable airbag can protect the human neck area if it is properly designed. This airbag system is composed of an inflater and an airbag. The inflater contains a pressurized gas cylinder and a piercing device. The airbag is an inflatable fabric surrounding the human neck. When a bicycle accident happens, a sensor captures the motion of the biker and a microcomputer sends a signal to open a valve in the inflator to supply the pressurized gas to the airbag. An important issue of this system is that the airbag should be quickly inflated to protect the human neck. This paper deals with the airbag inflation time simulation and some issues to design a wearable airbag system. Also, a prototype was tested to show its feasibility using a human dummy mounted on a running cart.
