  • This paper proposes a knee-wearable robot system for assisting the muscle power of human knee by processing EMG (Electromyogram) signals. Although there are many muscles affecting the knee joint motion, the rectus femoris and biceps femoris among them play a core role in the extension and flexion motion, respectively, of the knee joint. The proposed knee-wearable robot system consists of three parts; the sensor for measuring and processing EMG signals, controller for estimating and applying the required knee torque, and actuator for driving the knee-wearable mechanism. Ultimately, we suggest the motion control method for knee-wearable robot system by processing the EMG signals of corresponding two muscles in this paper. Also, we show the effectiveness of the proposed knee-wearable robot system through the experimental results.

  • In this paper, we extract well-known parameters such as zero crossing rate(ZCR), low band energy(Band) and median frequency(MDF) from surface electromyogram (EMG), and compare to evaluate themselves as measures for fatigue. In experiments, 3 males and 3 females volunteered to participate in surface EMG recordings placed on the biceps brachii and each recording experiment continued until exhaustion.

  • In the patients of retracted massive rotator cuff tears, there are much of difficulty to functional recovery and pain relief. Nevertheless the development of treatment, there are still debates of the best treatments in the massive rotator cuff tears. Recenlty various of treatments are introduced; these are acromioplasty with debridement, biceps tenotomy, great tuberoplasty with biceps tenotomy, partial repair, mini-open rotator cuff repair, arthroscopic rotator cuff repair, soft tissue augmentation, tendon transfer, flap, hemiarthroplasty, and reverse total shoulder arthroplasty. That there is no difference of result for reverse total shoulder arthroplasty between patients who have massive rotator cuff tear without arthritis and patients who have cuff tear arthropathy. Reverse total shoulder arthroplasty is one of reliable and successful treatment options for massive rotator cuff tear. Especially it is more effective for patients who have a pseudoparalysis.

  • This paper is concerned with the artificial control of prosthetic devices using the electromyographic(EMG) activities of biceps and triceps in human subject during isometric contraction adjustments at the elbow. And it was analysised about recognition of EMG signals and dynamic characteristics at arm movements of human. For this study the error signal of autoregressive(AR) model were used to discriminate arm movement patterns of human. Interaction of dynamic characteristics (Position, Velocity, Acceleration) and EMG of biceps and triceps at arm movements of human was measured.

  • There are four flexor muscles at elbow-biceps brachii, brachialis, brachioradialis, pronator teres. Muscle exertion force depends on the following conditions : elbow angle, external workload, and endurance time. The objectives of this study are to investigate the variations of the recruitment patterns of four muscles, and to analyze the changes of the role assigned to each muscle during elbow flexion. For three elbow angles, the transition point of type F motor unit of each muscle is inferred and the changes of the role assigned due to exertion level are identified by electromyographic analysis. The results showed that the recruitment pattern of biceps brachii is constant but those of other muscles are varied depending on elbow angle and exertion level. An EMG multiplexor is developed and simultaneous measurement of electromyographic signals of four elbow flexors is possible.

  • Objectives : This study is to report the effect of Scolopendrid Pharmacopuncture on two patients suffering from the pain of popliteal part. Methods : We treated the patients with the pain of popliteal part by acupuncture according to meridian(Taeyang and Soyang-Meridian), and we injected 0.1${\sim}$0.2cc of Scolopendrid Pharmacopuncture to his pain site. And then we evaluated their pain by VAS(Visual Analog Scale). Results : 1. A combined treatment-Scolopendrid Pharmacopuncture and Acupucture- had a very excellent effect on relieving pain of popliteal part originated from trigger point and referred pain of Popliteus or Biceps Femoris. 2. It appears that Scolopendrid Pharmacopuncture is very effective against trigger point of muscle and pain site fixed.
