In this paper, we propose an effective time-of-arrival (TOA)-based localization method with adaptive bias computation in indoor environments. The goal of the localization is to estimate an accurate target's location in wireless localization system. However, in indoor environments, non-line-of-sight (NLOS) errors block the signal propagation between target device and base station. The NLOS errors have significant effects on ranging between two devices for wireless localization. In TOA-based localization, finding the target's location inside the overlapped area in the TOA-circles is difficult. We present an effective localization method using compensated distance with adaptive bias computation. The proposed method is possible for the target's location to estimate an accurate location in the overlapped area using the measured distances with subtracted adaptive bias. Through localization experiments in indoor environments, estimation error is reduced comparing to the conventional localization methods.

Information on radar rainfall with high spatio-temporal resolution over large areas has been used to mitigate climate-related disasters such as flash floods. On the other hand, a well-known problem associated with the radar rainfall using the Marshall-Palmer relationship is the underestimation. In this study, we develop a new bias correction scheme based on the quantile regression method. This study employed a bivariate copula function method for the joint simulation between radar and ground gauge rainfall data to better characterize the error distribution. The proposed quantile regression based bias corrected rainfall showed a good agreement with that of observed. Moreover, the results of our case studies suggest that the copula function approach was useful to functionalize the error distribution of radar rainfall in an effective way.
This paper proposes an error amplifier circuit using OTA(Operational Transconductance Amplifier) which is the main constituent element in pulse width modulation circuit. The proposed OTA error amplifier circuit is featured by simple circuit configuration, excellent high frequency characteristics and bias current controlled output. Through the experiment of pulse width modulation circuit, the validity of the operation of the OTA error amplifier circuit is verified.
A fundamental assumption in conventional linear predictive coding (LPC) analysis procedure is that the input to an all-pole vocal tract filter is white process. In the case of periodic inputs, however, a pitch bias error is introduced into the conventional LP coefficient. Multi-pulse (MP) LP analysis can reduce this bias, provided that an estimate of the excitation is available. Since the prediction error of conventional LP analysis can be modeled as the sum of an MP excitation sequence and a random noise sequence, we can view extracting MP sequences from the prediction error as a classical detection and estimation problem. In this paper, we propose an algorithm in which the locations and amplitudes of the MP sequences are first obtained by applying a likelihood ratio test (LRT) to the prediction error, and LP coefficients free of pitch bias are then obtained from the MP sequences. To verify the performance enhancement, we iterate the above procedure with adaptive threshold at each step.
In this study, we suggest the method of small area estimation based on the Economically Active Population Survey (EAPS) data in producing unemployment statistics for the local self-government areas (LSGAs) within large areas. The small area estimators considered are design-based indirect estimators such as the synthetic and composite estimators. The jackknife mean square error was used as a measure of accuracy of such small area estimators. The total unemployed and jackknife mean square errors of the 10 LSGAs within the large area of ChoongBuk region are derived from the estimation procedure suggested in this study, using EAPS data of December 2000. The reliability of small area estimators was assessed using the relative bias values and relative root mean square errors of these estimators. We find that under the current Korean EAPS system, the composite estimator turns out to be much more stable than other estimators.

In this paper, a new current-memory circuit is proposed that reduces the clock feedthrough(CFT) error voltage causing total harmonic distortion(THD) increment in switched-current(SI) systems. Using PMOS transistor in CMOS complementary, the proposed one reduces output distortion current due to the CFT errorvoltage. A proposed current-memory is designed using a 1.2.mu.m CMOS process anda 1MHz sinusoidal signal having a 68.mu.A amplitude current is applied as input (sampling frequency:20MHz). It hasbeen shown from the simulation that the output distortion current effected by the CFT error voltage is reduced by approximately 10 times the error voltage of conventional one, THD is -57dB in case ofappling 1kHz frequency input signalwith 0.5 peak signal-to-bias current ratio.
Information of local solar radiation is essential for many field, including water resources management, crop yield estimation, crop growth model, solar energy systems and irrigation and drainage design. Unfortunately, solar radiation measurements are not easily available due to the cost and maintenance and calibration requirements of the measuring equipment and station. Therefore, it is important to elaborate methods to estimate the solar radiation based on readily available meteorological data. In this study, two empirical equations are employed to estimate daily solar radiation using Cheongju Regional Meteorological Office data. Two scenarios are considered: (a) sunshine duration data are available for a given location, or (b) only daily cloudiness index records exist. Simple linear regression with daily sunshine duration and cloudiness index as the dependent variable accounted for 91% and 80%, respectively of the variation of solar radiation(H) at 2011. Daily global solar radiation is highly correlated with sunshine duration. In order to indicate the performance of the models, the statistical test methods of the mean bias error(MBE), root mean square error(RMSE) and correlation coefficient(r) are used. Sunshine duration and cloudiness index can be easily and reliably measured and data are widely available.
This study investigates methodological implications of cyberspace and information technology for online survey research Online survey method provides useful methodological tools for collecting empirical data for the study of cyberspace, In terms of sampling frame , selection method, and questionnaire from four major types of the online survey research can be found: member survey visitor survey e-mail survey and the electronic survey. Online survey research with sample design(population specification error. sampling frame error, selection error) measurement (measurement instrument bias system-related processing error, nonrespone, and response bias) and research ethics (privacy and netiquette) pose important methodological issues for the survey. The realization of the technological possibilities of online survey will be possible only through a right consideration of these issues.
Agricultural meteorological information is an important resource that affects farmers' income, food security, and agricultural conditions. Thus, such data are used in various fields that are responsible for planning, enforcing, and evaluating agricultural policies. The meteorological information obtained from automatic weather observation systems operated by rural development agencies contains missing values owing to temporary mechanical or communication deficiencies. It is known that missing values lead to reduction in the reliability and validity of the model. In this study, the hierarchical Bayesian spatio-temporal model suggests replacements for missing values because the meteorological information includes spatio-temporal correlation. The prior distribution is very important in the Bayesian approach. However, we found a problem where the spatial decay parameter was not converged through the trace plot. A suitable spatial decay parameter, estimated on the bias of root-mean-square error (RMSE), which was determined to be the difference between the predicted and observed values. The latitude, longitude, and altitude were considered as covariates. The estimated spatial decay parameters were 0.041 and 0.039, for the spatio-temporal model with latitude and longitude and for latitude, longitude, and altitude, respectively. The posterior distributions were stable after the spatial decay parameter was fixed. root mean square error (RMSE), mean absolute error (MAE), mean absolute percentage error (MAPE), and bias were calculated for model validation. Finally, the missing values were generated using the independent Gaussian process model.
In this paper we investigate design-based properties of both the ordinary least square estimator and the weighted least square estimator for regression coefficients in panel regression model. We derive formulas of approximate bias, variance and mean square error for the ordinary least square estimator and approximate variance for the weighted least square estimator after linearization of least square estimators. Also we compare their magnitudes each other numerically through a simulation study. We consider a three years data of Korean Welfare Panel Study as a finite population and take household income as a dependent variable and choose 7 exploratory variables related household as independent variables in panel regression model. Then we calculate approximate bias, variance, mean square error for the ordinary least square estimator and approximate variance for the weighted least square estimator based on several sample sizes from 50 to 1,000 by 50. Through the simulation study we found some tendencies as follows. First, the mean square error of the ordinary least square estimator is getting larger than the variance of the weighted least square estimator as sample sizes increase. Next, the magnitude of mean square error of the ordinary least square estimator is depending on the magnitude of the bias of the estimator, which is large when the bias is large. Finally, with regard to approximate variance, variances of the ordinary least square estimator are smaller than those of the weighted least square estimator in many cases in the simulation.
