Fabrication of Superconducting Ceramics Using Chemical Process (화학공정에 의한 초전도 합성)

  • We have fabricated superconductor ceramics by chemical process. A high Tc superconductorwith a nominal composition of $Bi_{2}Sr_{2}Ca_{2}Cu_{3}O_y$ was prepared by the organic metal salts method. Experimental results suggest that the intermediate phase formed before the formation of the superconductor phase may be the most important factor. During the sintering, doped $Ag_{2}O$ was converted to Ag particles which were finely dispersed in superconductor samples.

  • The Electromagnetic properties in BiPbSrCaCuO superconductor was studied. In the measurement of current-voltage characteristics, a voltage across the superconducting sample was observed on applying an external magnetic field. The voltage continues to appear the removal of the magnetic field. The appearance of the voltage is ascribed to the trapping of magnetic flux. Depanding on the direction of applied magnetic flux less than 2.5${\times}$10-5 T, the voltage in the magnetized sample increases or decreases. It is considered that mechanism of voltage occurrence can be explained by applying filament model.

  • Bi-Sr-Ca-Cu-O superconductor thin films were prepared on MgO and LaAlO3 substrates by MOCVD technique. The films deposited on MgO and LaAlO3 substrates became superconducting at 64 K and 70 K respectively. The measured critical current density of thin film deposited on LaAlO3 substrate was around 104 A/$\textrm{cm}^2$. After annealing at $700^{\circ}C$ for 3 hours, the critical transition temperature(Tc) of films deposited on LaAlO3 was changed from 70 K to 74 K.

  • We investigated the effects of doping elements on the Bi system superconductor. The doping elements can be classified into two groups depending on their supeconducting characteristics in the Bi-Sr-Ca-Cu-O structure. The first group of doping elements(P and K) have a tendency to decompose the superconducting phase and reduce the optimal sintering temperature. The second group of doping elements(B, Si, Sn and Ba) almost uneffected the superconductivity of the 2223 and 2212 phase.

  • An electromagnetic properties in BiSrCaCuO superconductor were studied. In the measurement of current-voltage properties, the voltage was measured when applying an external magnetic field. The voltage continues to appear after the removal of the magnetic field. This phenomenon was considered as a nonvolatile magnetic effect. The voltage increased with the applied magnetic flux, but it became constant at about $10^{-2}$T. The appearance of the voltage was ascribed to the trapping of magnetic flux.

  • The effect of twisting on the microstructure and AC losses of Bi-2223 superconductor tape has been evaluated. Twisting pitches of the tapes are in the range of 12~60 mm and uniformly deformed. The critical current of the tapes was measured to decreased with decreased pitch. This reduction is believed to be due to the irregular interface, poor grain alignment. In addition, AC losses of the tape reduced as the pitch decreased probably due to combined effects of lower critical current and electrically decoupled filament of twisted tape.

It was confirmed experimentally that a large amount of magnetic flux was trapped in the $Ag_2O$ doped sample than that in the undoped one, indicating that the pinning centers of magnetic flux are related closely to the occurrence of the magnetic effect. It is considered that the area where normal conduction takes place increases by adding $Ag_2O$ and the magnetic flux penetrating through the sample increases. The results suggested that Ag acts to increase pinning centers of magnetic flux, contributing to the occurrence of the electromagnetic properties.

  • Superconducting power cable is one of the most promising energy application of high-T$\sub$2/ superconductor(HTS). Thus we investigated previously the electrical and mechanical characteristics on Bi-2223 Ag sheathed tape. And a prototype HTS cable have been designed constructed and tested. In case of 19-filament type transport losses agree with the results of norris theory(strip). The critical current of HTS cable(1, 19-filament) in LN$_2$was 116[A], 240[A] and degradation coefficient(k) was 0.71, 0.73 respectively. In case of 19-filament cable critical current was decreased because of mechanical strain at pitch. And AC loss of HTS cable(19-filament) was 0.7 [W/m] in 240[A] loading

  • There have been a lot of studies to improve the characteristic of Bi-2223 tape by PIT method which is considered as one of the best way for applying superconductor. These improved characteristic of Bi-2223 tape is able to be acqured by control of mechanical deformation and heat treatment. In this work, we studied HTS tapes with the sheath(Ag and Ag-alloy)of tapes that affect mechenical strength and critical current, with each two kind of purity(99.9% and 99.999%) and with two kind of tapes(single and double concentric). These charateristics affect Jc of tapes seriously that is the most important factor of superconductor tapes.
