Mesenchymal chondrosarcoma is very aggressive and represents approximately 1% of all chondrosarcomas. While it affects a very wide age range, the peak frequency is in the second decade of life. It may occur in the head and rib region with a predilection for the maxillofacial skeleton. The small cell undifferentiated component may assume a hemangiopericytoma-like vascular pattern and should be distinguished from hemangiopericytoma. Treatment is en bloc resection, the intended tissue margins of excision should be designed to extend well beyond the actual tumor margin, as mesenchymal chondrosarcomas. Aggressive behavior of mesenchymal chondrosarcoma of the jaw, with a tendency for delayed recurrence and metastasis even many years after treatment. The most frequent site of metastasis was the lung. Here we present 52 years old, female case of mesenchymal chondrosarcoma occurs on Rt. mandible.
Improvements in various health indices have been ushered in, along with soaring economic growth in the last few decades in Korea. Life span of Koreans at present stands at somewhere around age of seventies. It seems of worth to elucidate some facets of health profile of historic Koreans during Yi dynasty encompassing about five hundreds years between the 14th and 19th century. Datas on health of historic Koreans are meager with exception for sovereigns for whom royal archives have been preserved intact through centuries. Though the health environments for monarchs are, no doubt, incomparable to that of the grassroot levels during the same period, health profile of monarchs would facilitate to assess health indices for historic Koreans during Yi dynasty. Arithmetic average of life span of 25 consecutive Kings(omitted the last two Kings under Japanese control) is 44.6 years of age 81 year old for King Yongjo and 16 year old for King Danjong, representing two extremes. The principal causes of death are septicemia, subsequent to infections of soft tissue and ether organs(8 in number, one-thirds of all). Secondly, both epidemic disease and vascular accidents caused deaths of three Kings each. Two kings succumbed to diabets and one suicide. The causes for the remainder, eight kings are hardly ciarified. The monarchs who contributed in establishment of new Yi dynasty with highspirited and disciplined survied beyond their fifties and sixties. In contrast, those who reigned during mid - era of the dynasty at its culmination succumbed to death in their young adulthood, most likely due to their indulgence in court life.
A clinical analysis was performed on 48 cases with mitral stenosis who received open mitral commissurotomy from December 1983 to June 1991 at the Department of Thoracic & Cardiovascular Surgery, Chungnam National University Hospital. Fifteen patients were men and 33 were women. the mean age was 35.6 years with the range of 16 to 61 years. The distribution of preoperative NYHA Functional Classes was as follows; class II, 25 patients; class III, 20 patients; class IV, 3 patients. Three patients had cerebral emboli preoperatively, all of whom were in atrial fibrillation. The preoperative electrocardiographic studies revealed that 32 patients had sinus rhythms and 16 had atrial fibrillations. Twenty-six patients had open mitral commissurotomy alone and 22 patients had additional cardiac procedures. Intraoperatively, there were 6 cases of left atrial thrombosis. There was no perioperative death but early postoperative complications were found in 3 cases. The patients were followed up from 2 to 99 months[mean 33.7 months . There was one case of late unexplained sudden death. There was a case of late postoperative cerebral infarction, 5 cases of mitral restenosis and 3 cases of congestive heart failure and/or arrhythmia. Mitral valve replacements were required in 3 patients. But, it is evident that open mitral commissurotomy has many advantages beyond mitral valve replacement concerning the results of the mitral valve replacement underwent during the same period at the Department of Thoracic & Cardiovascular Surgery, Chungnam National University Hospital.
Assuming that life of urban transit signaling is about 20 years with the flow of technology development, Seoul urban transit will be required to prepare for improvement soon. The highly developed countries preceding several levels rather than Korea are faced with commercial service, which uses RF, ATC and ATO in Train Control System. European highly developed countries in the field of railroad have been progressing standardization and technology development of signaling associated with related manufacturers for direct operation between nations. For that, a effective train control system with radio beyond control levels by the existing wayside-onboard communication is in a developed and used stage. The systems, which advanced countries have been progressing, seem to be applied to domestic within 5 years from now. At present, there are no countries using CBTC for service throughout the world. So, this is investigated to focus on the routes ready to be installed with completed CBTC and trying to introduce the technology. Especially, considerations for economic aspect are mainly reviewed about controlling ability of headway, flexibility, extension aspect and construction cost on the basis of paper examined in NYCT.
The telecommunications of previous years have been utilized for internal usages, but those in current years have widely extended even to usages for Interorganizational Information System(IOIS) beyond its internal uses. Electronic Data Interchange(EDI), a subsidiary form of IOIS which permits interorganizational electronical exchanges of transaction documents through the telecommunications networks between and among computers, is expected to bring forth various innovative results with improved efficiency and productivity through the improvement and simplification of transaction processes, And it became needed and significant to review studies with practical values and necessity. This study is implemented on the basis of a judgement that Korea businesses can improve some of their structural problems of high costs by successfully adopting and implementing EDI system in their organizations. And it's also realized that more studies on the related subjects will benefit and be valuable for various applications. The major objectives of this research is to identify factors influencing in the implementation of EDI system by Korean business entities. Business which already implementation EDI system in their organizations were subjected to the survey. Also, this study intended to identify variables influencing in the implementation of EDI system and further provide directions needed in establishing or managing EDI system.
Six hundred fourteen consecutive cases of bioprosthetic cardiac valve replacement performed during the period from March 1976 through December 1982 were reviewed. A total of 748 tissue valves [534 Ionescu-Shiley valves, 144 Hancock valves, 46 Angell-Shiley, and 24 Carpentier-Edwards] were implanted in 610 patients. Of these, 477 had single valve replacements [403 mitral, 60 aortic, and 14 tricuspid] including three REDO MVR and one REDO AVR. The remaining 129 had double valve replacements [95 AVR and MVR and 34 MVR and TVR] and 8 had triple valve replacement.592 cases were evaluated. Overall early mortality rate [within 30 days of operation] was 7.1% [6.2% in single valve replacement, 10.2% in double valve replacement, and 16.7% in triple valve replacement]. Leading causes of mortality were low cardiac output or myocardial failure and ventricular arrhythmias. The follow-up period was from one month to 7 years with a cumulative follow-up of 906.6 patient-years [mean 1.53 years]. The late mortality was 1.6%, 3.9%, 0%, 2.6%, 6.6% and 2.0% per patient-year for MVR, AVR, TVR or triple valve replacement, AVR+MVR, MVR+TVR and total, respectively. Actuarial analysis of late results including early mortalities indicates an expected survival rate of 87.6+1.8% at 3 years and 85.92.4% at 7 years for all cases. We also analyzed actuarial survival rate between groups of each valve replacement [AVR, TVR, Double valve, and Triple valve] and the tissue valve groups in MVR. We experienced 7 cases [0.77% per patient-year] of confirmed endocarditis, two of which were fatal. Valve failure-free rates calculated according to the confirmed cases were 97.5% at 4 years, 87.5% at 7 years, and 88.3% at 6 years for Ionescu-Shiley, Hancock and Angell-Shiley valves, respectively. The occurrence rate of thromboembolism was 2.0% per patient-year in total cases, although almost all the patients were given anticoagulant therapy for one year. The occurring rate in MVR was 1.5% and 2.7% per patient-year for Ionescu-Shiley and Hancock valve groups, respectively. The difference in actuarial rate free from thromboemboli between Ionescu-Shiley and Hancock groups was statistically significant [P value less than 0.001]. Thromboembolic events beyond the period of anticoagulation therapy mainly occurred in patients with atrial fibrillation. The actuarial thromboemboli free survival was 95.71.4% at 3 years and 80.17.3% at 7 years. The incidence of hemorrhagic complications was 1.2% per patient-year [fatality 0.55% per patient-year] for anticoagulated patients. Although our clinical data favorably compares with results from other reports, our results suggest that anticoagulant therapy be given on a short-term basis or not at all to hemodynamically stable patients. Long-term therapy with antiplatelet drugs is probably inevitable with patients who have thromboembolic risk factors [such as atrial fibrillation].
It has been a critical issue to predict the safety critical software reliability in nuclear engineering area. For many years, many researches have focused on the quantification of software reliability and there have been many models developed to quantify software reliability. Most software reliability models estimate the reliability with the failure data collected during the test assuming that the test environments well represent the operation profile. User's interest is however on the operational reliability rather than on the test reliability. The experiences show that the operational reliability is higher than the test reliability. With the assumption that the difference in reliability results from the change of environment, from testing to operation, testing environment factors comprising the aging factor and the coverage factor are developed in this paper and used to predict the ultimate operational reliability with the failure data in testing phase. It is by incorporating test environments applied beyond the operational profile into testing environment factors. The application results show that the proposed method can estimate the operational reliability accurately.
The paper reports the result of a 2-year long research conducted by CTBUH on the design possibilities enabled by the Ropeless and Multidirectional elevator systems, investigating how such a significant innovation (or better to say revolution) in the vertical transportation could affect tall buildings first and cities then. The purpose of the study is to prefigure the adoption of ropeless and multidirectional cabins for tall buildings mobility, with the aim to overcome the evolutionary bottleneck of the high-rise building type due to the exclusively vertical direction of transport, which limited, over the years, the design possibilities in terms of height, shape and relations with the surrounding environment. CTBUH research team, together with professionals in the field and supporting academic advisors, developed a series of design considerations on plan organizations, dispatching alternatives and on the integration of horizontal direction in the circulation, with the aim of anticipating potential and criticality arising from the application of ropeless and multidirectional systems.

The decommissioning project of the KRR 1 & 2 was started in January 1997. The actual decommissioning activity was started at the RI production facility and was finished at the end of 2002. The dismantling works of all components including the reactor structure of the KRR-2 was started in January, 2003 and will be carried out for 2 years till the end of 2004. The project schedule is estimated to delay for 4∼5 months beyond the original plan because of delaying on the cutting of thermal column nose and removal of the graphite bricks, but it may be caught up during the removal working of concrete from biological shielding structure. This paper summarizes the general status of the KRR 1 & 2 and decommissioning activities.
Pavilions, follies, and installations provide a place with a new experience beyond that of simple garden architecture. From this point of view, this study tried to analyze the constructs in the Glass House site, which Philip Johnson has built for 50 years. After Chapter 1 Introduction, which summarized the background of the study, Chapter 2 investigated the design background of the landscape and the types of the constructs there. It also, studying literature on pavilions, follies, and installations, defined the basic meanings of them. Chapter 3 identified the features of each construct through the case studies of it, analyzing Johnson's intentions on it. These features are such as the applications of classical follies, the quotations of architectural history, fusion with art, architectural experiments, and the monuments of personal history. In conclusion, this study, finding the site specificity as a common feature of pavilions, follies, and installations, referred to two aspects of this, which are not only physical placeness but also cultural media.
