  • The purpose of this study is to examine various Oriental Medical approaches to uterine myoma treatments which have been previously proposed, and find out an appropriate method with the verification of its clinical acceptance. The treatment with GGT(Gami-gwichulikyeong-tang) and JGD (Jagungdan) has been applied to uterine myoma patients visiting Sangdang Oriental medical clinic. After the treatment, 81 cases showing significant results are selected and analyzed in terms of patients' age, social environment, previous history of treatment, condition of uterine myoma, chief complaint, and the comparison between menstrual phases before the treatment and those after it. As for the size change, no-change is dominant. For the change chief complaint take a favorable turn is better after the treatment. Color of menstruation, pathologic blood drainage, hypermenorrhea or menorrhagia. dysmentorrhea show high percentage of improvement. The results above show GGT and JGD are effective treatments for uterine myoma patients. These two are also similar to the typical prescription of Jingga, which is Gwichulpajing-tang. Thus GGT and JGD are effective to the treatment for Jingga and Jingga is one of the most valid Oriental Medical approaches to uterine myoma.

  • Backgrounds : sudden sensorineural hearing loss is defined as a disease that has abrupt onset of sensorineural hearing loss without definite cause. In some cases, this disease cause tinnitus, vertigo, headache addition to hearing loss. In traditional oriental medicine, sudden sensorineural hearing loss is could be diagnosed as deficiency of Yang-Gi(陽氣). Objects & Methods : This study is clinical observation about three sudden sensorineural hearing loss cases. For diagnosing in these cases, pure tone audiometry was used. For treatment, acupuncture, herbal-medicine and moxibustion therapy were used. Results & Conclusions : as follows. 1. Generally, in this disease, the shorter the whole period from the time that occurs to the time that starts to treat is, the more the results are better. The research shows that short-term case is more efficient than the other long-term two cases in the aspects of symptoms and pure tone audiometry . 2. In making a diagnosis of sudden sensorineural hearing loss and measuring the effect, subjective symptoms generally correspond to the improvement of pure tone audiometry, but not completely. Therefore, in treating patients, the doctor must consider these both aspects and keep the balance.

  • Background : Bojungikgitang(BJT) and Banhabaekchulchonmatang(BBT) are known to treat the tinnitus patients, which were registered Korean National Health Insurance coverage lists. Objective : Few studies have evaluated economic benefits of both herbal medicines. This research is to investigate the cost-effectiveness of Bojungikgitang(BJT) and Banhabaekchulchonmatang(BBT) in chronic tinnitus patients over nineteen years old. Method : We built the decision tree model of chronic tinnitus and executed the deterministic analysis and threshold sensitivity analysis based on randomized clinical trial. Effectiveness was measured in quality-adjusted life-years(QALYs), and costs were in 2009 KRW(South Korean Currency). The perspective is societal, time horizon is 10 weeks, and Korean willingness to pay threshold is assumed to 20,000,000KRW. Results : In the base case analysis, BJT treatment resulted is better outcomes as low cost, so BJT is dominant medicine and BBT is dominated. But both cost per QALYs (BJT is 3,120,339KWN per QALY, BBT is 3,505,780KWN per QALY) are lower than the threshold, that could be covered by Korean National Health Insurance(KNHI). Conclusion : This study results showed that BJT was more cost-effective than BBT treating tinnitus patients for 10 weeks, and the cost per QALYs of both alternatives were lower than Korean national threshold.

  • Background: Lunge exercises are lower extremity rehabilitation and strengthening exercises for patients and athletes. Most studies have shown the effectiveness of the forward and backward lunge exercises for treating patellofemoral pain and anterior cruciate ligament injuries (by increasing lower extremity muscle activity) and improving kinematics. Objects: However, it is not known how the two different lunge movements affect trunk muscle activities in healthy individuals. The purpose of this study was to investigate the electromyographic activity of the rectus abdominis and erector spinae muscles during forward and backward lunge exercises in healthy participants. Methods: Twelve healthy participants were recruited. Electromyographic activity of the rectus abdominis and erector spinae was recorded using surface electrodes during forward and backward lunges, and subsequently normalized to the respective reference voluntary isometric contractions of each muscle. Results: Activity of the erector spinae was significantly higher than that of the rectus abdominis during all stages of the backward lunge (p < 0.05). The activity of the erector spinae was significantly greater during the backward than forward lunge at all stages (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Backward lunging is better able to enhance trunk motor control and activate the erector spinae muscles.

  • NTP-ERSN is a package developed for solving the multigroup form of the discrete ordinates, characteristics and collision probability of the Boltzmann transport equation in one-dimensional cartesian geometry, by combining pin cells. In this work, C5G7 MOX benchmark is used to verify the accuracy and efficiency of NTP-ERSN package, by treating reactor core problems without spatial homogenization. This benchmark requires solutions in the form of normalized pin powers as well as the vectors and the eigenvalue. All NTP-ERSN simulations are carried out with appropriate spatial and angular approximations. A good agreement between NTP-ERSN results with those obtained with OpenMC calculation code for seven energy groups. In addition, our studies about angular and mesh refinements are carried out to produce better quality solution. Moreover, NTP-ERSN GUI has also been updated and adapted to python 3 programming language.
