  • The ultra fine gamma-alumina powder was prepared via ammonium aluminium carbonate hydroxide (AACH). The XRD, SEM, BET, thermal analysis were used to characterize the samples. The effects of various reaction parameters as concentration, of solution, anion on specific area, PH, aging time and thermal decomposition condition on the produced AACH and alumina were discussed.

The Analysis of Underpotential Deposition by Multilayer Adsorption Model

  • The underpotential deposition of zinc was investigated on carbon steel and nickel. The relationship be-tween the deposition potentials and the corresponding amounts of charge for deposited layers shows a very similar trend to the multilayer adsorption mechanism. The experimental results fit a mathematical model de-rived on the basis of the BET equation for the underpotential deposition.

루테늄이 치환된 SBA-15(Ru-SBA-15)의 질소 및 산소 흡착 거동 (Nitrogen and Oxygen Sorption Behaviors of Ruthenium-Substituted SBA 15(Ru-SBA-15))

  • 본 연구에서는, 비이온성 삼원공중합체 계면활성제인 $EO_{20}PO_{70}EO_{20}$를 주형으로 사용해, 다양한 Si/Ru 몰 비의 루테늄이 치환된 SBA-15들(Ru-SBA-15)을 합성하였다. 촉매 또는 선택적 흡착제 등으로써의 응용가능성을 검토하기 위해 Ru-SBA-15의 질소 또는 산소 흡착/탈착 거동을 조사하였다. Ru-SBA-15의 기공 크기는 Barrett-Joyner-Halenda(BJH) 및 Broekhoff-de Boer/Frenkel-Halsey-Hill isotherm(BdB-FHH) 방법($D_{BdB-FHH}$)을 이용하여 결정하였다. Si/Ru 비율이 50/1인 Ru-SBA 15의 $D_{BJH}$$D_{BdB-FHH}$는 각각 3.9, 4.7 nm였다. 투과전자현미경(TEM) 관찰에 의해 Si/Ru의 몰비율이 50인 Ru-SBA 15의 기공 크기는 4.7 nm로 나타났고, 이것은 BdB-FHH 방법을 사용한 $N_2$ 흡착 결과와 일치하였다. 산소 흡착/탈착 등온선으로부터 얻은 Brunauer-Emmett-Teller(BET) 기공 표면적은 질소의 흡착/탈착 등온선으로부터의 기공 표면적보다 높았는데, 각각 $612.7m^2/g$, 그리고 $573.3m^2/g$이었다. X선 회절(XRD) 패턴과 TEM 분석에 의해 본 연구에서 합성한 Ru-SBA-15는 잘 정렬된 육방정계 정렬을 가지는 것을 알 수 있었다.

Identification of Genes for Mycothiol Biosynthesis in Streptomyces coelicolor A3(2)

  • Mycothiol is a low molecular weight thiol compound produced by a number of actinomycetes, and has been suggested to serve both anti-oxidative and detoxifying roles. To investigate the metabolism and the role of mycothiol in Streptomyces coelicolor, the biosynthetic genes (mshA, B, C, and D) were predicted based on sequence homology with the mycobacterial genes and confirmed experimentally. Disruption of the mshA, C, and D genes by PCR targeting mutagenesis resulted in no synthesis of mycothiol, whereas the mshB mutation reduced its level to about $10\%$ of the wild type. The results indicate that the mshA, C, and D genes encode non-redundant biosynthetic enzymes, whereas the enzymatic activity of MshB (acetylase) is shared by at least one other gene product, most likely the mca gene product (amidase).

Adsorptive Removal of Phosphate Ions from Aqueous Solutions using Zirconium Fumarate

  • In this study, zirconium fumarate of metal-organic framework (MOF-801) was solvothermally synthesized at 130 ℃ and characterized through powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) analyses and porosity measurements from N2 sorption isotherms at 77 K. The ability of MOF-801 to act as an adsorbent for the phosphate removal from aqueous solutions at 25 ℃ was investigated. The phosphate removal efficiency (PRE) obtained by 0.05 g/L adsorbent dose at an initial phosphate concentration of 60 ppm after 3 h was 72.47%, whereas at 5 and 20 ppm, the PRE was determined to be 100% and 89.88%, respectively, after 30 min for the same adsorbent dose. Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) surface area and pore volume of the bare MOF-801 sample were 478.25 ㎡/g and 0.52 ㎤/g, respectively, whereas after phosphate adsorption (at an initial concentration of 60 ppm, 3 h), the BET surface area and pore volume were reduced to 331.66 ㎡/g and 0.39 ㎤/g, respectively. The experimental data of kinetic (measured at initial concentrations of 5, 20 and 60 ppm) and isotherm measurements followed the pseudo-second-order kinetic equation and the Freundlich isotherm model, respectively. This study demonstrates that MOF-801 is a promising material for the removal of phosphate from aqueous solutions.

수열합성법으로 제조된 Bi2MoO6에서 로다민 B의 광촉매 분해 반응 (Photocatalytic Decomposition of Rhodamin B over Bi2MoO6 Prepared Using Hydrothermal Process)

  • EGME, GL 및 EG와 물을 용매를 사용하여 $Bi_2MoO_6$ 산화물을 수열합성법으로 성공적으로 합성하였다. 이들 촉매들의 물리적 특성을 XRD, DRS, BET, SEM 및 PL 등으로 분석하였고 제조된 촉매들을 사용하여 가시광선 조사 하에서의 로다민 B의 광분해 반응에서의 활성을 조사하였다. XRD의 분석 결과에 의하면 대부분의 촉매들은 수열합성법에 의해 이 합성조건에서 용매의 종류와 관계없이 Aurivillius 구조를 가진 ${\gamma}-Bi_2MoO_6$의 결정화가 잘 이루어졌으며 12에서 18 nm의 크기를 나타내었다. 또한, 합성온도가 $140^{\circ}C$ 이하에서는 $Bi_2MoO_6$ 산화물의 특성피크가 잘 나타나지 않았으나, $160^{\circ}C$ 이상의 온도에서는 $Bi_2MoO_6$ 산화물의 특성피크가 잘 나타났다. 모든 촉매들은 자외선 영역부터 470 nm보다 낮은 파장의 가시광 영역에서 강한 흡수스펙트럼을 보여주고 있다. 이 결과는 $Bi_2MoO_6$ 산화물들이 가시광 영역에서도 광촉매 활성을 보여주고 있는 것을 의미한다. EGME를 용매로 사용하여 제조된 $Bi_2MoO_6$ 촉매가 가장 높은 광분해 활성을 나타내었고 $180^{\circ}C$에서 합성된 촉매가 가장 높은 광활성을 보여주었다. 모든 촉매들은 560 nm 부근에서 강하고 넓은 PL 흡수밴드가 나타났으며, 이 피크의 세기가 커질수록 광분해 활성이 증가하는 것으로 나타났다.

TiO2 Combining Spherical Activated Carbon Photocatalysts and Their Physicochemical and Photocatalytic Activity

  • In this study, we used coal-based activated carbons and charcoal as startingmaterials, phenolic resin (PR) as a binder, and TOS as a titanium source to prepare $TiO_2$ combining spherical shaped activated carbon photocatalysts. The textural properties of the activated carbon photocatalysts (SACP) were characterized by specific surface area (BET), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), iodine adsorption, strength intensity, and pressure drop. The photocatalytic activities of the SACPs were characterized by degradation of the organic dyes Methylene Blue (MB), Methylene Orange (MO), and Rhodamine B (Rh. B) and a chemical oxygen demand (COD) experiment. The surface properties are shown by SEM. The XRD patterns of the composites showed that the SACP composite contained a typical single, clear anatase phase. The EDX spectro for the elemental indentification showed the presence of C and O with Ti peaks. According to the results, the spherical activated carbon photocatalysts sample of AOP prepared with activated carbon formed the best spherical shape, a high BET surface area, iodine adsorption capability and strength value, and the lowest pressure drop, and the photocatalytic activity was better than samples prepared with charcoal. We compared the degradation effects among three kinds of dyes. MB solution degraded with the SACP is better than any other dye solutions.

조미 건조김의 흡습특성에 관한 연구 (Study on the Moisture Sorption Characteristics of Seasoned Dried Laver)

  • 상업적으로 생산되는 조미김의 흡습특성을 조사하기 위하여 조미김과 2종의 흡습제 (silica gel, zeolite)의 등온흡습곡선을 30, 40, 5$0^{\circ}C$에서 포화염용액을 사용하여 측정하였다. 실험온도 및 상대습도 범위내에서 평형수분함량에 도달하는데 조미김은 4~6시간, silica gel은 20~25시간, zeolite는 43~46시간이 소요되었다. 조미김과 흡습제의 등온흡습곡선은 모두 전형적인 sigmoid형 곡선을 나타냈다. BET식을 활용하여 구한 단분자층 수분함량은 조미김이 각 온도(30, 40, 5$0^{\circ}C$)에서 5.26, 4.46, 3.49% (d.b.)이었고, silica gel은 17.32, 15.24, 12.89% (d.b.), 그리고 zeolite가 16.87, 14.92, 14.33%(d.b.)로서 조미김에 비해 흡습제가 높은 범위의 단분자층 수분함량을 나타냈다. 또한 단분자층 수분함량은 온도가 증가함에 따라 실험온도 범위 내에서 직선적으로 감소함이 발견되었다 포장재의 투습도 역시 온도의 영향을 받음을 알 수 있었는데, 조미김 포장재의 투습계수의 온도의존성은 Arrhenius식으로 표시할 수 있었다.

Sonochemical Synthesis and Sonocatalysis Performance Behavior of Ag2Se and Ag2Se/TiO2 Nanocomposites

  • In this study, novel $Ag_2Se$ sensitized $TiO_2$ nanocomposites were prepared by facile sonochemical assisted synthesis method. The as-prepared products were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and N2 adsorption BET analysis. The as-prepared $Ag_2Se/TiO_2$ nanocomposites simultaneously possessed great adsorptivity for organic dyes and efficient charge separation properties. In the decolorization of rhodamine B, a significant enhancement in the reaction rate was observed for the $Ag_2Se/TiO_2$ nanocomposite compared to the cases of using pure P25 or $TiO_2$. The sonocatalysis activity was higher due to the greater formation of reactive radicals, as well as to the increase of the active surface area of the $Ag_2Se/TiO_2$ nanocomposite.

Adsorption and Photocatalytic Performances of BiOI Nanostructures for Methyl Orange and Rhodamine B: Ag and Ti-Loading Effects

  • We synthesized BiOI nanostructures with various doped-concentrations of Ag (0.1, 1.0, 5.0, 10.0 mol%) and Ti (1.0, 5.0, 10.0, 30.0, 50.0 mol%). They show spherical echinoid-like structures examined by scanning electron microscope. The BET surface areas were measured to be in the range of 40~70 $m^2$/g, which is reduced by doping. The indirect band gap was estimated to be 1.8 eV for undoped BiOI with no change and 1.0 eV increase upon Ag and Ti doping, respectively. The structures were further examined by X-Ray diffraction analysis, FT-IR, and photoluminescence. We also demonstrated adsorption and photocatalytic degradation performances for methyl orange and Rhodamine B on the echinoid-like BiOI structures.
