  • In this paper, a synchronized stream encryption system for secure link layer communication in a radio channel is designed. Interleaving scheme which is used to enhance the transmission performance over a fading channel is applied to the encrypted information. A designed synchronous scream cipher system consists of a keystream generator, a synchronization pattern generator and a session key generator. The structure of a synchronous stream cipher system with periodic synchronization is composed of the encrypted information which consists of a synchronization pattern, an error correcting coded session key, an encrypted data in a period of synchronization. In this paper, interleaving scheme using dynamic allocation a1gorithm(DAA) is applied the encrypted information. The BER of the DAA has been slightly higher than that of the SAA(static allocation algorithm).

  • Underwater Acoustic Channels (UAC) have inherent sparse characteristics. The traditional adaptive equalization techniques do not utilize this feature to improve the performance. In this paper we consider the Variable Adaptive Subgradient Projection (V-ASPM) method to derive a new sparse equalization algorithm based on the Minimum Symbol Error Rate (MSER) criterion. Compared with the original MSER algorithm, our proposed scheme adds sparse matrix to the iterative formula, which can assign independent step-sizes to the equalizer taps. How to obtain such proper sparse matrix is also analyzed. On this basis, the selection scheme of the sparse matrix is obtained by combining the variable step-sizes and equalizer sparsity measure. We call the new algorithm Sparse-Control Proportional-MSER (SC-PMSER) equalizer. Finally, the proposed SC-PMSER equalizer is embedded into a turbo receiver, which perform turbo decoding, Digital Phase-Locked Loop (DPLL), time-reversal receiving and multi-reception diversity. Simulation and real-field experimental results show that the proposed algorithm has better performance in convergence speed and Bit Error Rate (BER).

  • We propose a turbulence-tolerant Manchester on-off keying (M-OOK) transmission for free-space optical (FSO) communication. At the transmitter end, a M-OOK signal featuring a spectrum with low-frequency components absent is modulated and transmitted into a turbulent channel. At the receiver end, a low-pass filter (LPF) -based adaptive-threshold decision (ATD) with LPF-extracted channel-state information (CSI) and a high-pass filter (HPF)-based fixed-threshold decision (FTD) are employed to compensate for the effects of turbulence, owing to the low-frequency spectral characteristics of the turbulent channel. The performance of LPF-based ATD and HPF-based FTD are evaluated for various cutoff frequencies for the LPF and HPF. Besides, the proposed M-OOK transmission is compared to conventional non-return-to-zero OOK (NRZ-OOK) for different data rates. The proposed technique is verified in simulation. The simulation results show that the proposed M-OOK detection with optimized cutoff frequencies of LPF and HPF has better bit-error-rate (BER) performance compared to NRZ-OOK, and it is close to the theoretical ATD with the knowledge of precise CSI under various degrees of turbulence effects.

  • In the 3GPP LTE systems, SC-FDMA is adopted for the uplink owing to its good PAPR efficiency. In the frequency domain, however, the performance of SC-FDMA is degraded due to frequency selective fading. As a compromise, a Hybrid OFDMA/SC-FDMA was proposed in the LTE-Advanced systems. Hybrid scheme uses SC-FDMA in the edge of cell area, while it uses OFDMA nearby the base-station. In this paper, uplink relays based on hybrid scheme is proposed to increase the performance of the 3GPP LTE systems. With different positions of mobile and relay, the proposed scheme can adaptively select SC-FDMA or OFDMA to improve the link performance. Our simulation results show that the proposed scheme achieves a better performance in terms of end-to-end BER and power consumption.

  • Cooperative networks transmit signals form the source node to the destination node via several relay node where the combining and demodulation of relay aided signals provide the benefit of performance enhancement and data rate increment. In general, a repetitive manner transmission scheme in which the received signal from the source node is amplified/re-generated and forward to the destination node is widely used. In this paper, we analyzed the performance of cooperative networks using the mixed transmission scheme. The conventional modulation scheme is used in the source-relay links, and space-time code is applied in the relay-destination links. To reduce the complexity of the overall system, we adopt differential modulation which bypasses channel state information. We analyze bit error rate (BER) of the proposed system by considering the number of relay nodes, and the performances depending on the strength of transmission signal in the source-relays and rely-destination links are compared. In addition, we also discuss the system performance with the signal strength and the number of relay nodes simultaneously.

  • In this paper, we propose the frequency diversity scheme for performance improvement of a OFDM system without decreasing the spectral efficiency. In the proposed scheme, information bit is encoded to symbol by a simple procedure, and the encoded symbol is transmitted through the two lowest correlated sub-channels with the particular phase difference. At the receiver, a frequency diversity gain is obtained by a simple signal processing. We also suggest optimum phase difference value to minimize the performance degradation which resulted from a phase difference estimation error and bit/symbol mapping method to minimize BER. As results, at the point of performance improvement, the proposed scheme is excellent even though it requires a little increase of system complexity because of an additional encoding and decoding. In particular, we confirmed through computer simulation that on the same channel environment and bandwidth efficiency, the 27x/1Rx STBC-OFDM system adopting the proposed frequency diversity scheme outperforms the conventional 27x/1Rx STBC-OFDM system performance

  • Adaptive OFDM(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) improves data capacity and system performance over multipath fading by adaptively changing modulation schemes according to channel state information(CSI). To achieve a good performance in adaptive OFDM systems, CSI should be transmitted from receiver to transmitter in real time through feedback channel. However, practically, the CSI feedback delay d which is the sum of the data processing delay and the propagation delay is not negligible and damages to the reliability of CSI such that the performance of adaptive OFDM is degraded. This paper presents an adaptive OFDM system with a multistep predictor on the frequency axis to effectively compensate the multiple feedback delays $d(\geq2)$. Via computer simulation we compare the proposed scheme and existing adaptive OFDM schemes with respect to data capacity and system performance.

  • The real number M-ary QAM system can reduce PAPR and effectively improve the transmission efficiency as it increases gradually the value of M according to the state of channel. However, only approximate performance analysis was performed due to the complexity of the analysis. In this paper, we introduce an exact performance analysis considering the change of a boundary line due to the difference in frequency of use of the signal points. Also, we propose a new constellation of 2 time dimension ($3{\times}2^m$)-ary QAM with odd m which has better performance in PAPR. In the performance analysis, we obtain the signal point error rate and the bit error rate of real number M-ary QAM for the various values of m and compare performance between the proposed QAM and the conventional $2^k-ary$ QAM with integer k.

  • A combining of MIMO signal processing with OFDM is regarded as a promising solution of enhancing the performance of next generation wireless system. Therefore, in this paper, an OFDM-based wireless system employing layered space-time architecture is considered for a high-rate transmission. In the MIMO-OFDM system, we evaluate the PAR performance using the SLM approaches. The investigated SLM scheme for MIMO-OFDM signals selects the transmitted sequence with lowest average PAR over all transmitting antennas and retrieves the side information very accurately at the expense of a slight degradation of the PAR performance. The low probability of false side information can improve the overall detection performance of the MIMO-OFDM system with erroneous side information compared to the ordinary SLM approache, respectively. Also, we provide closed form of the average BER performance in MIMO-OFDM system using analytic approach.

  • Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) transmits high-speed data by splitting the transmission bandwidth into a number of subcarriers. The bandwidth of each subcarrier is ensured to be smaller than the coherence bandwidth. This paper presents an OFDM system incorporated with the Carrier Interferometry (CI) codes to improve the performance by enhancing frequency diversity effect. The performances of CI-OFDM with multilevel modulations are investigated in highly dispersive fading channels. For the investigation of performance improvement of CI-OFDM, a simulator has been developed using a well-known SPW simulation platform. The simulation results show that the CI-OFDM provides both performance improvement and robustness against dispersive fading channel behavior. The performance of CI-OFBM with multilevel modulations demonstrates that CI-OFDM outperforms a traditional OFDM system, particularly in highly dispersive channels. With a relatively large delay spread of 151㎱ compared to the guard interval of 800㎱, CI-OFDM provides a BER of 10$^{-3}$ if sufficient signal power is present.
