동아시아에서 황칠수(黃漆樹)의 활용에 대한 연구(硏究) (A study of the application of Hwangchil Tree (黃漆樹 Dendropanax morbiferus H.Lév.) in East Asia)

  • Essence of the Hwangchil tree (黃漆樹 Dendropanax morbiferus H.Lév.) has been used for various purposes, like waxing emperor's armors, covering an astrology board, or, during the Silla Dynasty, burying it to block something bad in the soil symbolically. Essence of the Hwangchil tree was known to have remarkable preservation effects such as waterproofing, damp-proofing, rust-proofing, and moth-proofing as well as not being easily peeled off from even soft surfaces like paper. There is a record in Prescriptions for Epidemic diseases of Cows, Horses, Sheep, and Pigs (牛馬羊猪染疫病治療方), published in 1541, of Hwangchil that is local to Jeju Island being used instead of benzoin (安息香), of burning Hwangchil, and of making cows inhale its smoke to prevent plague among them. Along the same lines, there are records in the Local Chronicle of Tamra (耽羅志) and the Book of Earth Geography (輿地圖書) that identify Hwangchil with benzoin. In Seonghosaseol (星湖僿說), a book written by Lee Yik in around 1760, it is acknowledged that Hwangchil could be medicinal herb. In 2000, Ahn Duk-Kyun registered the roots and branches of Hwangchil tree as 'Boncho' (本草 herbal medicine) in the Pictorial Book of Korean Medicinals (韓國本草圖鑑) and presented the method of taking it for medical purpose. Researchers have suggested that Hwangchil essence as well as diverse parts of the plant such as its roots, branches, leaves, flowers, fruits, and gum have various meaningful medicinal properties. Regarding the history and recent researches of using Hwangchil tree, it has various medicinal probabilities such as, 'dispersing miasma' (辟邪), 'opening holes' (開竅), 'waking the heart' (醒心), 'smoothing spirits' (安神), 'piercing the block' (疎泄), 'removing the old and welcoming the new' (去故生新). This paper contributes ideas about how to expand the uses of Hwangchil Tree.

세종 지리지의 자원식물고 (A Study on Botanical Resources in Sejong-Jirhiji)

  • $\ulcorner$ 세계지리지 $\lrcorner$는 1426년에 간행된 $\ulcorner$신선팔도지리지$\lrcorner$를 보완 수정하여 1454년에 완성되었다. 이 책에는 인문지리,자연지리, 경제 군사적인 내용에 이르기까지 상세히 기록되어 있다. 자원식물은 산업면에서 기 고 있는데 현대지리서에서도 추수를 수 없을 만틈 방대하게 종이 기재되어 있다. 이들 중에는 거의가 야생종이고 극소수는 재배종이다. 팔도에 기재된 자원식물 총수는 1277종(항목)이지만 분유체계에 따르면 104과 267종이다. 이는 1433년에 간행된 $\ulcorner$ 향약집성방 $\lrcorner$의 103과 281종과 거의 비슷하다. 값이 비싸고 구하기 어려운 중국약재를 피학고 향약재를 발굴하여 사용하려는 자주적인 의지를 이지리서에서 볼 수 있다. 그 중 콩과의 파고지 Cullen coryliforia와 때죽나무과의 안식향 Styrax benzoin과 꿀풀과의 영릉향Ocimum sanctum등은 열대 또는 아열대식물인데 어떤 경로로 도입되었는지 알길리 없다. 고서에서의 어려움은 동일종에 여러개이 이명이 있는 점이다. 세계지리지에 수록된 자원식물의 분포는 오늘에도 삼고가 되고 있음 뿐만 아니라 그 자원식물들은 후일 한국본초학의 토대가 되었다.대가 되었다.

스티렌 그라프트 폴리프로필렌 부직포의 제조와 특성 (Preparation and Characteristics of Polypropylene Nonwoven Fabric Grafted by Styrene)

  • Photografting of styrene (St) on polypropylene (PP) nonwoven fabric using benzoin ethyl ether (BEE) as a photosensitizer was investigated. Inhibition of homopolymerization was achieved by adding various concentrations of $FeSO_4{\cdot}7H_2O$, $CuSO_4{\cdot}5H_2O$ and Mohr's salt. As St concentration was increased, the degree of grafting was increased as to a specific value and then decreased, and the effect of BEE concentration showed the same tendency. It was also found that the degree of grafting increased with reaction time and reaction temperature. Addition of the polyfunctional monomers and $H_2SO_4$ to the grafting system accelerated the photografting. The melting temperature, molecular weight, tensile strength and elongation were decreased with the increase in the degree of grafting.

  • The antibacterial and antifungal activities of three schiff bases were evaluated against some pathogenic bacteria and fungi. Parallel experiments were also carried out with standard drugs (Kanamycin for bacteria and Nystatin for fungi). Two compounds [N-(1-phenyl-2-hydroxy-2phenylethylidine)-2',4' dinitrophenyl hydrazine, abbreviated as PDH and N-(2-hydroxy benzylidine)-2'-hydroxy imine, abbreviated as HHP] showed significant antimicrobial activities. The rest one [N-(l-phenyl 2-hydroxy-2 phenyl ethylidine) 2'-hydroxy phenyl imine, abbreviated as PHP] showed moderate activity. All these three compounds were found to possess pronounced cytotoxic effect. These compounds can be considered as potent antimicrobial agents.

  • Boric acid ($BO_3H_3$) is an inexpensive, efficient and mild catalyst for the synthesis of 2,4,5-triaryl-1H-imidazoles in excellent yields from the one-pot three-component condensation of benzil/benzoin, an aldehydes and ammonium acetate in aqueous media under ultrasound at room temperature. The remarkable advantages offered by this method are green catalyst, mild reaction conditions, simple procedures, much faster reactions and excellent yield of products.

Physical and Mechanical Properties of Local Styrax Woods from North Tapanuli in Indonesia

  • The objective of this research was to evaluate physical and mechanical properties of three species of Styrax woods from North Tapanuli in Indonesia. The woods were more than 15 years old. Physical properties such as specific gravity, green moisture content, and volume shrinkage were determined by the procedures based on BS-373 standard for small clear specimen. Furthermore, mechanical properties, including modulus of rupture, modulus of elasticity, compression parallel to grain and hardness were also tested according to the standard. Along the stem direction, the edge section had better properties compared with those near the pith section. And the base section had also better properties than upper section. Based on the specific gravity, all of the Styrax woods in this research were classified into III-IV strength classes. A good dimensional stability was demonstrated by the value of the tangential and radial ratio which reached one. With the consideration of the mechanical properties, Styrax woods were suitable use for raw materials of light construction, furniture and handy craft.

광그라프팅에 의한 폴리프로필렌 부직포의 복합기능화 가공(II) -스티렌의 그라프트 반응 및 암모니아 흡착거동 - (Multi-functional Finish of Polypropylene Nonwoven by Photo-induced Graft Polymerization (II) - Grafting of Styrene and Its Ammonia Adsorption Behavior -)

  • 암모니아 흡착제를 제조하기 위하여 먼저 광(자외선)조사법으로 스티렌을 폴리프로필렌 부직포에 그라프트 중합시키고, 이를 술폰화한 다음에 금속이온과 반응시켜 금속 착체를 제조하였다. 스티렌 농도가 증가할수록 그라프트율은 증가하였으며, 반응시간이 길어질수록 그라프크율은 증가하였다. 한편 제조된 각종 시료의 암모니아 흡착 능력은 치환된 술폰산기의 함량, 흡착시판 및 암모니아 기체 압력이 증가할수록 증가하였으며, 술폰산기의 함량이 4.25 mmol $H^+$/g인 시료의 경우에 6.51 mmol/g의 흡착량을 나타내었다. 금속이온을 착물로 한 시료는 착물화 전의 시료에 비해 흡착능이 우수하였으며, $cO^{+2}$를 착물로 한 경우에 9.90mmo1/g의 암모니아 흡착능을 나타내어, 기존의 활성탄이나 실리카겔보다 효과가 우수하였다.

Bis(dithiobenzil) 금속 화합물의 합성 및 광안정성 (Synthesis of Bis(dithiobenzil) Metal Complex and Its Photostability)

  • 본 연구에서는 기능성 근적외선 흡수색소 및 광안정제로 사용되는 bis(dithiobenzil) 금속 화합물은 중간체인 benzoin 및 anisoin을 먼저 합성하고 이들을 전구체로 사용하여 합성하였다. 또한, bis(dithiobenzil) 금속 화합물의 광안정성 효과를 확인하기 위하여 전하발생재료인 squarylium을 합성하였다. 중간체 및 최종 생성물의 구조는 핵자기 공명 분석기와 적외선 분광기를 이용하여 확인하였고, 열적 특성은 시차열분석기 및 열중량분석기를 이용하여 분석하였다. 광학 특성과 광안정성 효과는 UV-Vis-NIR 분광기를 이용하여 측정 분석하였다. 합성한 bis(dithiobenzil) 금속 화합물은 근적외선 영역에서 우수한 흡광특성을 나타내었고, 치환기의 종류 및 위치에 따라 최대흡수파장이 이동하였다. 또한, squarylium에 bis(dithiobenzil) 금속 화합물을 첨가하면 squarylium의 광퇴색현상을 감소시켰다.
