Critical current(Ic) degradation of HTS tapes and AC loss under mechanical load is one of the hottest issues in HTS development and application. Mechanical load reduces the critical current of superconducting wire, and the Ie degradation affects the AC loss of the wire. We measured the Ie degradation and AC loss under tension and bending of Bi-2223 tapes processed by "Powder-in-Tube" technique at 17K with self-field. And we have studied the frequency dependence of self-field AC loss in multi-filamentary Bi-2223/Ag tape at 77K. The measurement results and discussions on the relationship between Ic degradation and AC loss are presented.

A simple predicted model using a modified Shear-lag method was used to represent the moisture absorption effect on the stiffness degradation for $[0/90]_{2s}$ composite laminates with transverse cracks and under flexural loading. Good agreement is obtained by comparing the prediction model and experimental data published by Smith and Ogin (2000). The material properties of the composite are affected by the variation of temperature and moisture absorption. The transient and non-uniform moisture concentration distribution give rise to the transient elastic moduli of cracked composite laminates. The hygrothermal effect is taken into account to assess the changes in the normalised axial and flexural modulus due to transverse crack. The obtained results represent well the dependence of the stiffness properties degradation on the cracks density, moisture absorption and operational temperature. The composite laminate with transverse crack loaded in axial tension is more affected by the hygrothermal condition than the one under flexural loading. Through this theoretical study, we hope to contribute to the understanding of the moisture absorption on the composite materials with matrix cracking.

HPFRCC(High Performance Fiber Reinforced Cementitious Composite) is a class of FRCCs(Fiber Reinforced Cementitious Composites) that exhibit multiple cracking. Multiple cracking leads to improvement in properties such as ductility, toughness, fracture energy, strain hardening, strain capacity, and deformation capacity under tension, compression, and bending. These improved properties of HPFRCCs have triggered unique and versatile structural applications, including damage reduction, damage tolerance, energy absorption, crack distribution, deformation compatibility, and delamination resistance. These mechanical properties of HPFRCCs become different from the kinds and shapes of used fiber, and it is known that the effective size of fiber in macro crack is different from that in micro crack. This paper reports an experimental findings on the mechanical properties of HPFRCCs reinforced with the micro fiber(PP50, PVA100 and PVA200) and macro fiber(PVA660, SF500). Uniaxial compressive tests and three point bending tests are carried out in order to compare with the mechanical properties of HPFRCCs reinforced with micro fibers or hybrid fibers such as compressive strength, ultimate bending stress, toughness, deformation capacity and crack pattern under bending, etc.,

The most important material parameters are fracture energy and the stress-crack opening displacement($\sigma$-w) curve to determine the behavior of concrete. Especially, the relationship between the $\sigma$-w curve is strongly important to determine the load-displacement curve of concrete that has a major influence on the fracture behavior of a concrete. In this paper, notched plain concrete beams with different strength level were tested under three-point bending and fracture energy, the load-deflection curve, and the load-crack mouth opening displacement(CMOD) curve were obtained from the experimental data. Also, the fictitious crack model(FCM) was applied to determine the load-deflection curve of notched plain concrete beams using various types of $\sigma$-w curve model proposed by Petersson and we compared experimental results with numerical ones carried out by Finite Element Method(FEM).

Purpose of this study is to analyze the characteristics and reinforcement effects of restored the RC bridge deck with small precast panel through static load tests and to provide the basic information for the damaged slab decks. In the tests for realizing movement of general RC bridge slabs, 6 samples are prepared and tested. All reinforced samples are restored with 1 or 2-layers precast panels by epoxy mortar. The movement of restored slabs is analyzed and compared with the behavior of non-restored slabs. In result of these tests, tension cracks due to bending moment are show, and after static load test there happens finally a punching shear failure, which is the general type of RC bridge failure. The tests show that restoration of the RC slab results in increasing of loading capacity about 30~50% an restoring panels are stick to slab and moving with slab under loading test.
Root gap out of standard by welding deformation is frequently produced at butt weld joints of steel bridge. For example although standard root gap is below 6mm at butt weld joints of plates under 15mm thickness. maximum 35mm root opening is produced at the weld field. At this case, the part out of standard is generally built up and the rest part is welded by WPS. Direct welding without built-up welding is preferred in weld field because built-up welding process bring about the cost-up at manufacturing. To apply this direct weld to root gap out of standard, the investigation about mechanical properties and fatigue at weldment is required. Inthisstudy, therefore the verification for direct weld without built up is performed at weldment as root gap. It includes tension, bending. hardness, impact and fatigue test for each welding specimen of 6mm, 25mm, 35mm root gap.
Since stainless steel plates have good mechanical properties, weldability, appearance and resistance of corrosion, these are traditionally used for vehicles such as the bus and the train. And they are mainly fabricated by spot welding. But fatigue strength of their spot welded joint is considerably influenced by welding conditions as well as geometrical factors. Thus a reasonable and systematic criterion for long life design of spot welded body structure must be established. In this report, strain energy density was analyzed by using 3-dimensional finite element model about the IB-type spot welded lap joint under tension-shear load. Fatigue tests were conducted on them having various thickness, joint angle, lapped length and width. From their results, it was found that fatigue strength of the IB-type spot welded lap joints could be effectively and systematically rearranged by strain energy density at the edge of nugget.
Light-Weight Concrete containing Expanded Poly-Styrene Beads (EPS-LWC) is an approved structural and non-structural material characterized by a considerably lower density and higher structural efficiency, compared to concrete containing ordinary aggregates. The experimental campaign carried out in this project provides new information on the mechanical properties of structural EPS-LWC, with reference to the strength and tension (by splitting and in bending), the modulus of elasticity, the stress-strain curve in unconfined compression, the absorbed energy under compression and reinforcement-concrete bond. The properties measured at seven ages since casting, from 3 days to 91 days, in order to investigate their in-time evolution. Mathematical relationships are formulated as well, between the previous properties and time, since casting. The dependence of the compressive strength on the other mechanical properties of EPS-LWC is also described through an empirical relationship, which is shown to fit satisfactorily the experimental results.
The aim of this study was to investigate the flexural behavior of reinforced concrete beams strengthened with a novel strengthening system. Concrete beams were strengthened with a hybrid retrofit system consisting of high strength steel cords impregnated in an inorganic fireproof matrix (Geopolymer). The strengthened reinforced concrete beams along with non-strengthened control beams were tested monotonically under four point bending loading conditions. Moreover, an analytical model is introduced, that can be used to analyze the flexural performance of the strengthened beams. The experimental results indicate that the failure of the strengthened beams was based on the yielding of the reinforcement in the tension face of the beams, followed by a local slippage of the steel cords. The flexural stiffness of the strengthened beams was significantly improved compared to the stiffness of the non-strengthened beams. In conclusion, the strengthening system can provide an effective alternative to commercially available systems.

The dynamic earthquake analysis of plane cable-stayed bridge structures was formulated and implemented into a computer program which analyzes plane cable-stayed bridge structu- res subjected to initial cable tensions, member dead and live loads and seismic loads. Cable-stayed bridges were modelled as multi-degrees of freedom systems with lumped- mass. Various earthquake responses such as dynamic deflection, bending moment, shear force and cable tension were investigated by the dynamic analyses in the form of the time history analysis. The time history analysis was based on the mode superposition method. The study revealed that Fan-l type cable-syayed bridges is generally superior to other types for the earthquake proof even though aspects of deflection and section force of each type presents respective advantages and disadvantages. The study provided a method to design the sections of cable-stayed bridges under seismic loads with various design parameters related to structural types. The study is expected to be useful for effective design of cable-stayed bridges with conside- ration of earthquake.
