The purpose of this study is to evaluate the seismic performance of high-rise reinforced concrete (RC) box-type wall structures commonly used for most residential buildings in Korea. For this purpose, an analytical model was calibrated with the results of the earthquake simulation tests on a 1:5 scale 10-story distorted model. This calibrated model was then transformed to a true model. The performance of the true model in terms of the stiffness, strength, and damage distribution through inelastic energy dissipation was observed with reference to the earthquake simulation test results. The model showed high overstrength factors ranging from 3 to 4. The existence of slab in this box-type wall system changed the main resistance mode in the wall from bending moment to tension/compression coupled moment through membrane actions, and increased the overall resistance capacity by about 25~35%, in comparison with the common design practice of neglecting the slab's existence. The flexibility of foundation, which is also commonly neglected in the engineering design, contributes to 30~50% of the roof drift in the stiff direction containing many walls. The possibility of concrete spalling and reinforcement buckling and fracture under the maximum considered earthquake (MCE) in Korea appears to be very low when compared with the case of the 2010 Concepcion, Chile earthquake.
Metal matrix composites(MMCs) have been rapidly becoming one of the strongest candidates for structural materials fur many high temperature application. However, among the various high temperature environments in which metal matrix composites was applied, thermal shock is known to cause significant degradation in most MMC system. Due to the appreciable difference in coefficient of thermal expansion(CTE) between reinforcement and metal matrix, internal stresses are generated following temperature changes. Infernal stresses affect degradation of mechanical properties of MMC by causing microscopic damage in interface and matrix during thermal cycling. Therefore, the nondestructive evaluation on thermal shock damage behavior of SiC/A16061 composite has been carried out using ultrasonics. For this study, SiC fiber reinforced metal matrix composite specimens fabricated by a squeeze casting technique were thermally cycled in the temperature range 298$\~$673 K up to 1000cyc1es. Three point bending test was conducted to investigate the efffct of thermal shock damage on mechanical properties. The relationship between thermal shock damage behavior and the propagation characteristics of surface wave and SH-ultrasonic wave was discussed by considering the result of SEM observation of fracture surface.
Severe cracks on Reinforced Concrete (RC) structures caused by structural displacement can be often one of the main reasons for the degradation of tensile and flexural rigidities of RC structures and for the deterioration of durability and serviceability of RC structures through accelerated steel corrosion. These combined factors adversely affect the performance of RC concrete, leading to shortened life time of RC structures. In consideration of these problems, we conducted 3 point bending experiments by employing three different types of concrete specimens: fiber-net reinforced concrete (FNRC), polypropylene-fiber reinforced concrete (PFRC), and plain concrete (PC). FNRC is well known for its strong corrosion resistance, light self-weight, and excellent tensile strength, while PFRC is known to be effective in crack control. FNRC was found to have the best first and final crack resistances followed by PFRC and PC, as evidenced by the highest initial crack load and the smallest final crack width, respectively. The FNRC specimens with various tensile strength of fiber net exhibited greater ultimate strengths than those for PFRC and PC. Furthermore, the crack widths of FNRC specimens were smaller than those calculated by the crack-width estimation equation of the KCI and ACI code. Therefore, we conclude that fiber net reinforcement is effective not only on crack control, but also on loading share.
Neighboring construction becomes mainstream of Ground excavation in downtown area. This causes the displacement, deformation, stress condition, etc of the ground surroundings. Therefore Neighboring construction have an effect on Neighboring structure. All these years a lot of Neighboring construction carried out, and the accumulation of technology also get accomplished. But earth retaining structure collapse happens yet. Types of earth retaining structure collapse are 12. 1. Failure of anchor or strut system, 2. Insufficiency of penetration, 3. H-pile Failure on excessive bending moment, 4. Slope sliding failure, 5. Excessive settlement of the back, 6. Deflection of H-pile, 7. Joint failure of coupled H-pile, 8. Rock failure when H-pile penetration is rock mass, 9. Plane arrangement of support systems are mechanically weak, 10. Boiling, 11. Heaving, 12. Over excavation. But field collapses are difficult for classification according to the type, because collapse process are complex with various types. When we consider the 12 collapse field, insufficient recognition of ground condition is 4 case. Thorough construction management prevents from fault construction. For limitations of soil survey, It is difficult to estimate ground condition exactly. Therefore, it should estimate the safety of earth retaining system, plan for necessary reinforcement, according to measurement and observation continuously.
This paper investigates the flexural stiffness of simply supported steel-concrete composite I-beams under positive bending moment through combined experimental, numerical, and different standard methods. 14 composite beams are tested for experimental study and parameters including shear connection degree, transverse and longitudinal reinforcement ratios, loading way are also investigated. ABAQUS is employed to establish finite element (FE) models to simulate the flexural behavior of composite beams. The influences of a few key parameters, such as the shear connection degree, stud arrangement, stud diameter, beam length, loading way, on the flexural stiffness is also studied by parametric study. In addition, three widely used standard methods including GB, AISC, and British standards are used to estimate the flexural stiffness of the composite beams. The results are compared with the experimental and numerical results. The findings have provided comprehensive understanding of the flexural stiffness and the modelling of the composite beams. The results also indicate that GB 50017-2003 could provide better results in comparison to the other standards.
Cracking is considered to be one of the important factors in determining the durability of reinforced concrete structures. When the bending stress exceeds the modulus of rupture of the concrete, cracking form along the length of members. The total load is transferred across these cracks by the reinforcement, but the concrete between cracks is still capable of carrying stresses due to the bond between steel and concrete. This phenomenon is called the tension stiffening effect. The tension stiffening effect is affected by many variables, such as the bond stress, strength of concrete, interrocking of aggregate, type of steel, and dowel action of steel. Also, this tension stiffening effect is usually quite significant in beams under service loading, and must be taken into account in the calculation of deflection and crack widths. In this study, the experiment was carried out on types of specimen, strength of concrete, and steel ratio and finite element analysis were compared in terms of load-deflection relationship, crack pattern.
Chloride induced reinforcement corrosion is widely accepted to be the most frequent mechanism causing premature degradation of reinforced concrete members, whose economic and social consequences are growing up continuously. Prevention of these phenomena has a great importance in structural design, and modern Codes and Standards impose prescriptions concerning design details and concrete mix proportion for structures exposed to different external aggressive conditions, grouped in environmental classes. This paper focuses on reinforced concrete column section load carrying capacity degradation over time due to chloride induced steel pitting corrosion. The structural element is considered to be exposed to marine environment and the effects of corrosion are described by the time degradation of the axial-bending interaction diagram. Because chlorides ingress and consequent pitting corrosion propagation are both time-dependent mechanisms, the study adopts a time-variant predictive approach to evaluate residual strength of corroded reinforced concrete columns at different lifetimes. Corrosion initiation and propagation process is modelled by taking into account all the parameters, such as external environmental conditions, concrete mix proportion, concrete cover and so on, which influence the time evolution of the corrosion phenomenon and its effects on the residual strength of reinforced concrete columns sections.
ASCE-ACI Committee 426 and 445, on Shear and Torsion, well noted in their report that recent research work regarding shear and torsion had been devoted primarily to members. But it was not logical approach of PSC members applied by axial force based on the shear deformation in web element. And it was not included that the effect of axial is to shift the shear strain(or crack width) in the web element versus the applied shear curve up or down by the amount by which the biaxial tension-compression state varies. The shear strength also increases or decreases, so that the change in shear strain at service load due to the presence of axial load is to some extent changed. Generally, in corresponding beams the shear strain at service load is less in the beam subject to axial compression and greater in the beam subject to axial tension, than in the beam without axial load. In particular, however, no research were available on the shear deformation in shear of PSC members with web reinforcement, subject to axial force in addition to shear and bending. Therefore, this study was basically performed to develop the program for the calculation of the shear deformation based on the shear effect of axial force in prestressed concrete members.
This paper presents a simple and efficient two-dimensional rigid-body-spring network model able to accurately estimate the fractural behavior of civil fiber reinforced pavements. The proposed rigid-body-spring network model, denoted as RBSN model, considers civil fiber reinforcing materials using the beam elements and link spring elements. The RBSN method is able to model collapse due to asphalt crushing and civil fiber slip. The RBSN model is used to predict the applied load-midspan deflection response of civil fiber retrofitted asphalt specimen subjected to the three-point bending. Numerical simulations and experimental measurements are compared to based on tests available in the literature. The numerically simulated responses agree significantly with the corresponding experimental results until the maximum load. However, It should be mentioned that, in order to more accurately predict the postpeak flexural behavior of the civil fiber retrofitted asphalt pavement, development of the advanced model to simulate the slip relationship between civil fiber and asphalt is required.
Carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) is applied as structural material. CFRP is excellent in plane strength / stiffness and don't haves rust. Lightweight, rigid and robust at the same time as transportation material. Aluminum alloy and reinforcement material The application is increasing rapidly. In this study, the prototype of a semi - Monocoque structure frame, Longeron, Stringer, Skin of the aircraft, restraining the rigidity Clips of the aircraft was designated as the target product and the experiment was conducted. ln the experiment, (1) For CFRTP 3 points, data on heating, transfer, and cooling were measured using Thermo Couple, and optimum temperature required for flexible state was obtained. Heating was performed at a temperature 15% higher than the provided temperature. (2) By using a pneumatic press during molding, by dividing LH, center and RH according to the cooling time, thickness parameter of the target product due to the load is measured, and thickness control and time-deviations were analyzed and cross sections were observed with a low magnification microscope.
