To assess the integrity of the pipeline is the most important problem to be solved first of all for prevention of any fracture accident of the pipeline. As a result of exerting such efforts, a number of plastic collapse assessment equations have been suggested, however, the scope of using or applying such assessment equations has not been exactly defined. In this study, the case that a surface crack existed in the circumferential direction in the external side of the natural gas pipeline and a bending load was applied to the pipeline was analytically identified as the most critical condition, and a plastic collapse assessment equation fur it was suggested. The flow stress of the API X65 linepipe was defined through the experiment conducted on SENT specimens. Also, a local assessing criterion of a 3-dimensional crack behavior considering not only the crack depth but also the crack length was suggested. Finally, a plastic collapse assessment equation for the API X65 linepipe was developed by performing the 3-dimensional finite element analysis.

Neighboring construction becomes mainstream of Ground excavation in downtown area. This causes the displacement, deformation, stress condition, etc of the ground surroundings. Therefore Neighboring construction have an effect on Neighboring structure. All these years a lot of Neighboring construction carried out, and the accumulation of technology also get accomplished. But earth retaining structure collapse happens yet. Types of earth retaining structure collapse are 12. 1. Failure of anchor or strut system, 2. Insufficiency of penetration, 3. H-pile Failure on excessive bending moment, 4. Slope sliding failure, 5. Excessive settlement of the back, 6. Deflection of H-pile, 7. Joint failure of coupled H-pile, 8. Rock failure when H-pile penetration is rock mass, 9. Plane arrangement of support systems are mechanically weak, 10. Boiling, 11. Heaving, 12. Over excavation. But field collapses are difficult for classification according to the type, because collapse process are complex with various types. When we consider the 12 collapse field, insufficient recognition of ground condition is 4 case. Thorough construction management prevents from fault construction. For limitations of soil survey, It is difficult to estimate ground condition exactly. Therefore, it should estimate the safety of earth retaining system, plan for necessary reinforcement, according to measurement and observation continuously.
An efficient finite element method has been introduced for analysis of metallic sandwich plates subject to bending moment. A full model 3-point bending FE-analysis shows that the plastic behavior of inner structures appears only at the load point. The unit structures of sandwich plates are defined to numerically calculate the bending stiffness and strength utilizing the recurrent boundary condition for pure bending analysis. The equivalent models with the same bending stiffness and strength of full models are then designed analytically. It is demonstrated that the results of both models are almost the same and the FE-analysis method incorporating the equivalent models can reduce the computation time effectively. The dominant collapse modes are face buckling and face yielding. Since the inner dimpled structures prevent face buckling, sandwich plates with inner dimpled shell structure can absorb more energy than other types of sandwich plates during the bending behavior.

Bending performances of aluminum square tube beams reinforced by aluminum plates under three point bending loads have been evaluated using experimental tests combined with theoretical and finite element analyses. A finite element simulation for the three-point bending test was performed. Basic properties of aluminum materials used for initial input data of the finite element simulation were obtained from the true stress-true strain curves of specimens which had been extracted from the Al tube beams. True stresses were determined from applied loads and cross-sectional area records of a tensile specimen with a rectangular cross-section by real-time photographing, and true strains were obtained from in-situ local elongation measurements of the specimen gage portion by the multi-point scanning laser extensometer. Six kinds of aluminum tube beam specimens adhered by aluminum plates were employed fur the bending test. The bending deformation behaviors up to the maximum load described by the numerical simulation were in good agreement with experimental ones. After passing the maximum load, reinforcing plate was debonded from the aluminum tube beam. An aluminum tube beam strengthened by aluminum plate on the upper web showed an excellent bending capability.
Based on three-dimensional (3-D) FE limit analyses, this paper estimates effect of internal pressure on plastic limit loads for elbows with circumferential through-wall crack under in-plane bending incorporating large geometry change effects. Circumferential through-wall crack in extrados is considered. The FE limit analyses using the large geometry change option provide plastic collapse loads (using the twice-elastic-slope method). For the bending mode, closing bending is considered. Other relevant variables affecting plastic limit loads are systematically varied, related to pipe bend geometry (the mean radius, thickness and bend curvature) and defect geometry (the length of circumferential through-wall crack).
Local buckling behaviors of aluminum square tube beams reinforced by aluminum plates under three point bending loads have been analyzed using experimental tests combined with theoretical and finite element analyses. For this analysis true stresses were determined from applied loads and cross-sectional area records of a tensile specimen with a rectangular cross-section by real-time photographing. True strains were also obtained from in-situ local elongation measurements of the specimen gage portion by the multi-point scanning laser extensometer. Six kinds of aluminum tube beam specimens reinforced by aluminum plates were employed for the bending test. The bending deformation behaviors up to the maximum load analyzed by the numerical simulation agreed well with experimental ones. After passing the maximum load, reinforcing plate hindering the local buckling of the tube beam was debonded from the aluminum tube beam. An aluminum tube beam strengthened by aluminum plate on the upper web showed the most excellent bending capacity, which could be explained on the basis of the neutral axis shift and the local buckling deformation range.

A new discrete method using idealized rigid body-spring model is introduced. This rigid element method is known to be more efficient and accurate than the finite element method in the inelastic range of structural analysis owing to simplified stress-strain and strain-displacement relations This kind of physical concept using idealized rigid model has been already applied among structural engineers to some problems such as rigid-plastic analysis or plastic design considering rigid bodies and plastic hinges. However the most rigorous and systematic research has been recently performed by T. Kawai et al.[1]. In this paper, an attempt is made to analyze the collapse behavior of stiffened plates under lateral loading by some modification and expansion of Kawai's rigid element approach to the collapse of plates without stiffener. Stiffened plates are treated as orthotropic plates which have equivalent bending rigidities. By employing Morley's plate element resubdivision technique, variety is given to mesh-division styles which have greate effect on the accuracy of numerical results. Some examples are shown to verify the validity of applying rigid element method to the ultimate strength analysis of stiffened plates. It is clarified that lateral deflections and detailed collapse patterns up to the ultimate state of stiffened plates can be easily obtained by the present approach.
Steel-reinforced concrete (SRC) L-shaped column is the vertical load-bearing member with high spatial adaptability. The seismic behavior of SRC L-shaped column is complex because of their irregular cross sections. In this study, the hysteretic performance of six steel truss reinforced concrete L-shaped columns specimens under the combined loading of compression, bending, shear, and torsion was tested. There were two parameters, i.e., the moment ratio of torsion to bending (γ) and the aspect ratio (column length-to-depth ratio (φ)). The failure process, torsion-displacement hysteresis curves, and bending-displacement hysteresis curves of specimens were obtained, and the failure patterns, hysteresis curves, rigidity degradation, ductility, and energy dissipation were analyzed. The experimental research indicates that the failure mode of the specimen changes from bending failure to bending-shear failure and finally bending-torsion failure with the increase of γ. The torsion-displacement hysteresis curves were pinched in the middle, formed a slip platform, and the phenomenon of "load drop" occurred after the peak load. The bending-displacement hysteresis curves were plump, which shows that the bending capacity of the specimen is better than torsion capacity. The results show that the steel truss reinforced concrete L-shaped columns have good collapse resistance, and the ultimate interstory drift ratio more than that of the Chinese Code of Seismic Design of Building (GB50011-2014), which is sufficient. The average value of displacement ductility coefficient is larger than rotation angle ductility coefficient, indicating that the specimen has a better bending deformation resistance. The specimen that has a more regular section with a small φ has better potential to bear bending moment and torsion evenly and consume more energy under a combined action.
In this paper, we present a new finite Timoshenko beam element with a model for ultimate load computation of reinforced concrete frames. The proposed model combines the descriptions of the diffuse plastic failure in the beam-column followed by the creation of plastic hinges due to the failure or collapse of the concrete and or the re-bars. A modified multi-scale analysis is performed in order to identify the parameters for stress-resultant-based macro model, which is used to described the behavior of the Timoshenko beam element. The micro-scale is described by using the multi-fiber elements with embedded strain discontinuities in mode 1, which would typically be triggered by bending failure mode. A special attention is paid to the influence of the axial force on the bending moment - rotation response, especially for the columns behavior computation.

Wind induced large bending oscillation amplitudes in tall and slender telecommunication steel towers may lead to precocious fatigue cracks and consequent risk of collapse of these structures, many of them installed in rural areas alongside highways and in highly populated urban areas. Varying stress amplitudes at hot spots may be attenuated by means of passive control mechanical devices installed in the tower. This paper gives an account of both mathematical-numerical model and the technique applied to design and evaluate the performance of a double controller installed in existing towers which is composed by a nonlinear pendulum and a novel type of passive controller described herein as a planar motion disk mounted on shear springs. Results of experimental measurements carried out on two slender tubular steel towers under wind action demonstrate the efficiency of the double controllers in attenuating the towers bending oscillation amplitudes and consequent stress amplitudes extending the towers fatigue life.
