This study performed finite element analysis on the pipe bend with various bend angles under loading conditions of internal pressure and combined pressure and bending, to investigate the effect of bend angle on the collapse behavior of pipe bend and on the stress state in the bend region. In the analysis, the pipe bends with bend angle of $5\~90^{\circ}$ were considered, and the bending moment was applied as in-plane closing and opening modes. From the results of analysis, it was found that the collapse moment of pipe bend increases with decreasing bend angle. As the bend angle decreases, also, the equivalent stress at intrados region increases regardless of bending mode. Under closing mode bending especially, the increase in stress at intrados is significant so that the maximum stress region moves from crown to intrados with decreasing bend angle.

This paper quantifies the effect of a bend angle of a pipe bend on plastic loads, via small strain and large strain FE limit analyses using elastic-perfectly plastic materials. To consider the effect of the attached straight pipe, two limiting cases are considered. One case corresponds to the pipe bend without the attached straight pipe, and the other to that with a sufficiently long attached straight pipe. For the former case, the FE results suggest that the limit load is not affected by the bend angle for both in-plane bending and internal pressure. For the latter case, however, the bend angle affects plastic loads. An interesting finding is that the plastic load smoothly changes from the limit load of the straight pipe when the bend angle approaches zero to the plastic load of the $90^{\circ}$ pipe bend when the bend angle approaches 90 degree. Based on such observations, closed-form plastic load solutions are proposed for the pipe bend with an arbitrary bend angle under in-plane bending and internal pressure.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of bend angle on the collapse behavior of locally wall thinned pipe bends. For this purpose, the present study performed three-dimensional finite element analysis on the 30-, 60-, and 90-degree pipe bends with local wall thinning at the center of intrados, extrados, and crown, and evaluated the collapse moment for different thinning dimensions under closing- and opening-mode bending with a constant internal pressure. The results showed that, for intrados and extrados wall thinning, the reduction in the collapse moment due to local wall thinning became significant with decreasing bend angle of pipe bends. This effect of bend angle was enhanced with increasing thinning dimensions, and it was clearer fur opening-mode bending than for closing-mode bending. For crown wall thinning, however, the effect of bend angle was unclear and was less sensitive to the change of wall thinning shapes.

Adhesive bend and shear tests of micro-sized bonded component have been performed to clarify the relationship between effects of heat-treatment on the adhesive strength and the bonded specimen shape using Weibull analysis. Multiple micro-sized SU-8 columns with four different diameters were fabricated on a Si substrate under the same fabrication condition. Heat-treatment can improve both of the adhesive bend and shear strength. The improvement rate of the adhesive shear strength is much larger than that of the adhesive bend strength, because the residual stress, which must change by heat-treatment, should effect more strongly on the shear loading. In case of bend type test, the adhesive bend strength in the smaller diameters (50 and $75\;{\mu}m$) widely vary, because the critical size of the natural defect (micro-crack) should vary more widely in the smaller diameters. In contrast, in case of shear type test, the adhesive shear strengths in each diameter of the columns little vary. This suggests that the size of the natural defects may not strongly influence on the adhesive shear strength. All the result suggests that both of the adhesive bend and shear strengths should be complicatedly affected by heat-treatment and the bonded columnar diameter.
Connectors are very important components that transmit electric signals to different parts. It must maintain intensity of the connector to prevent defects from impact and maintain contact to transmit electric signals. Most of the external parts of the connector, which act as the main framework, are formed by injection molding. However, bend deformation occurs for injection molded products due to the residual stress left inside the product after product molding. When the bend deformation is large, it does not come into complete contact when being assembled with other parts, which leads to connector contact intensity not being properly maintained. In result, the main role of the connector, which is to transmit electric signals, cannot be performed. In order to address this problem, this study conducted bend deformation cause analysis through bend deformation analysis to predict and prevent bend deformation of housings and wafers, which are injection molded products of pressure welded connectors that are normally applied in compact mobile and display products. Bend deformation analysis was carried out by checking the charging time, pressure distribution and temperature distribution through wire to board connector wafer and housing injection molding analysis. Based on the results of the bend deformation analysis results, the cause of the bend deformation was analyzed through deformation resulting from disproportional cooling, deformation resulting from disproportional contraction, and deformation resulting from ingredient orientation. In result, it was judged that the effects for bend deformation were biggest due to disproportional contraction for both the pressure welded connector wafer and housing.
Most of the past experimental or analytical studies were performed for the curved bend with a square cross-section. Velocity profiles and Reynolds stresses of the turbulence flow in the 270 degree bend with circular cross-section were measured by a hot-wire anemometer. The mean velocity of primary flowing direction effected by the downstream of bend in the entry region of the bend. The flow in the inner part of the bend slowed the distribution velocity relatively large and unsymmetric phenomenon. In the strong secondary flow occurred when the flow passed in the region of 45 degree to 90 degree. The secondary flow appeared very large value in the neighbor region of inner wall.
Optically compensated bend (OCB) mode has intrinsic characteristics such as wide viewing angle and fast response time. However, in order to operate the OCB mode in bend state, this device needs quick transitions from the initial splay state to bend state. In this paper, we proposed OCB mode with initially bend state using reactive mesogen (RM) monomer for surface polymer stabilization. The device shows continuous reorientation of the LC with applied field and a very fast response time.
Purpose : The purpose of this study is to examine the muscle activity of shoulder stabilization according to change of supporting base interval between push-up bend and push-up plus position and is to prevent or treat a shoulder injury by the most effective exercise for rehabilitation. Methods : This study analyzed the muscle activity according to change of supporting base interval between push-up bend and push-up plus movement. The participants without neuromuscular disease were 25 students - 12 males and 13 females - all twenty or over and the surface electrode of EMG attached on pectoralis major, triceps long head, middle trapezius, lower trapezius, serratus anterior and latissimus dorsi. The process has practiced 3 sessions of supporting base interval - narrowing interval, two shoulder interval, broad interval - by push-up bend and push-up plus movement. Result : 1. The muscle activity of pectoralis major was significantly increased according to narrow interval of supporting base on push-up plus movement and was significant difference(p<.05). 2. The muscle activity of biceps was significantly increased according to narrow interval of supporting base on push-up bend movement(p<.05). 3. The muscle activity of middle or lower trapezius was a difference according to change of supporting base on push-up bend and push-up plus movement but was not significant difference. 4. The muscle activity of serratus anterior was significantly increased according to broad interval of supporting base on push-up bend movement(p<.05). 5. The muscle activity of latissimus dorsi was significantly increased according to broad interval of supporting base on push-up bend movement(p<.05). Conclusion : These results lead us to the conclusion that push-up bend exercise have the effect of muscle strength of biceps on narrowing interval, of serratus anterior or latissimus dorsi on broad interval and push-up plus exercise have the effect of muscle strength of pectoralis major on narrowing interval of support base.

This study proposes a novel optical sensor structure based on a refractometer combining a bend waveguide with an air trench. The optical sensor is a $1{\times}2$ splitter structure with a reference channel and a sensing channel. The reference channel has a straight waveguide. The sensing channel consists of a U-bend waveguide connecting four C-bends, and a trench structure to partially expose the core layer. The U-bend waveguide consists of one C-bend with the maximum optical loss and three C-bends with minimum losses. A trench provides a quantitative measurement environment and is aligned with the sidewall of the C-bend having the maximum loss. The intensity of the output power depends on the change in the refractive index of the measured material. The insertion loss of the proposed optical sensor changes from 3.7 dB to 59.1 dB when the refractive index changes from 1.3852 to 1.4452.

Two dimensional steady and unsteady numerical models are applied to bend reaches of the Lower Han River and the superelevation at the Ichon-Banpo bend area of Han River was observed. The flow characteristics in the meandering river are complicated due to the effects of the centrifugal force. The centrifugal force makes the outside water surface level increase and the outside velocity decrease. To study this complex flow studying two dimensional flow is important and useful to design flood control countermeasures, the analysis of sedimentation and the site selection of intake structures. Especially, the superelevation between inside and outside of the bend should be considered to determine the height of embankment. In this study, the water surface elevations in both bank sides of the bend were measured in two reaches during floods in 2007 and 2008. And then the two-dimensional simulation using RMA-2 model was carried out. The upstream and downstream boundary conditions on bend reaches were determined by FLDWAV which is one-dimensional unsteady model. Finally, the observed data are compared with simulation results and the results of the several superelevation formulas, and the flow characteristics of the bend are discussed.
