This study intends to offer the success factor in benchmarking technique and its application for library through investigation of benchmarking's theoretic background, such as concepts, implementation process, fitness models, and application case studies. It is expected that this study could guide to library fields and apply to basic data in next studies.
This work presents a test platform for the assessment and benchmarking of modern actuators which have been specifically developed for the new field and service robotics applications. This versatile platform has been designed for the comparative analysis of actuators of dissimilar technology and operating conditions. It combines a modular design to adapt to linear and rotational actuators of different sizes, shapes and functions, as well as those with different load capacities, power and displacement. This test platform emulates the kinematics of robotic joints while an adaptive antagonist-load actuator allows reproducing the variable dynamic loads that actuators used in real robotics applications will be subjected to. A data acquisition system is used for monitoring and analyzing test actuator performance. The test platform combines hardware and software in the loop to allow actuator performance characterization. The use of the proposed test platform is demonstrated through the characterization and benchmarking of three controllable impedance actuators recently being incorporated into modern robotics.

In competitive society, performance management is an essential element of business success. Despite the importance of performance management, it has not been widely implemented in construction companies. In the recent years, construction companies have become more aware of its need to identify, implement, and sustain performance improvements more systematically. Thus, the objective of this paper is to develop performance management system (PMS) for construction companies. The roles of performance management system is not only measuring performance but also offering guidance to improve performance. Therefore, PMS needs benchmarking process that provides Best Practice and new knowledge. This paper investigates the case of PMSs in UK, USA, Brazil, and Chile and discusses the lessons learned. To overcome the limitations of existing PMSs, new performance measurement framework, in form of 'Construction' BSC, is proposed. Based on the 'Construction' BSC, key performance indicators are derived and methodology of performance management is suggested. This paper concludes by developing PMS for benchmarking in construction companies and recommending some further directions on this research topic.

International virtual teamwork offers new opportunities for the professional development of teachers. In this paper, we examine the initial experiences in an ongoing international virtual benchmarking project coordinated by the Finnish Online University of Applied Sciences. What challenges does an international context present for project construction and collaboration? Data from five countries, in the form of participant reflections and researchers' observations, were analysed according to four types of barriers: language, time, technical and mental barriers. Initial data indicates that trust is an essential starting point, as there is neither time nor possibilities to build mutual trust by traditional means. Organisational confidentiality issues, however, can complicate the situation. The project introduces 'collision' as a method of professional development, in which physical and organisational borders are crossed and the skills and competencies needed in global learning environments are acquired.
ArangoDB is a NoSQL database system that has been popularly utilized in many applications for storing large amounts of data. In order to apply a new NoSQL database system such as ArangoDB, to real work environments we need a benchmarking system that can evaluate its performance. In this paper, we design and implement a ArangoDB based benchmarking system that measures a kernel level performance well as an application level performance. We partially modify YCSB to measure the performance of a NoSQL database system in the cluster environment. We also define three real-world workload types by analyzing the existing materials. We prove the feasibility of the proposed system through the benchmarking of three workload types. We derive available workloads in ArangoDB and show that performance at the kernel layer as well as the application layer can be visualized through benchmarking of three workload types. It is expected that applicability and risk reviews will be possible through benchmarking of this system in environments that need to transfer data from the existing database engine to ArangoDB.

Construction management services have been adopted for more than a decade and are continuously growing; however, the advantages of utilizing a construction management service are still not quite clear, regardless of many arguments can be made in their favor. The construction manager, as a coordinator, is supposed to smoothly facilitate the project teamwork in order to deliver a profitable and satisfactory project, not only for the owner's interests but also for the success of all project participants. This study has focused on the teamwork supports a construction manager can provide during project operations. This study developed a benchmarking tool to assess the construction manager's role in terms of its project teamwork supports, by utilizing the evaluation model and several case studies. In addition, this study also attempted to set the industry average and higher performance so that both the owner and the construction manager can self-assess, and more importantly, can improve project operation. The actual implementation of the benchmarking tool into on-going projects can allow the construction manager to understand the current operation and to make a better project process through teamwork.

Energy consumption in agriculture is responsible for greenhouse gas emission but it can be reduced after efficient utilization of energy inputs. Therefore, the present study aims for the estimation of energy efficiency and extent of greenhouse gas reduction after benchmarking of inefficient farms in off-season tomato in Punjab province of Pakistan. Primary data were collected from 70 farmers with simple random sampling. By using data envelopment analysis, the average value of technical, pure technical and scale efficiency was 0.80, 0.92 and 0.87, respectively while increasing, constant and decreasing return to scale was observed in 33, 26 and 11 farmers, respectively. Total input energy was reduced by $12,688.91MJ\;ha^{-1}$ (13.89%) if inefficient farms used the energy inputs according to recommendations or benchmarking. A major portion of energy saving comes from fertilizers (68.79%) followed by diesel (15.70%), chemicals (5.91%), machinery (4.37%) and water (4.00%). Total greenhouse gases reduction was $499.17kg\;CO_2\;eq.ha^{-1}$ (14.57%) as a result of improvement in energy efficiency or benchmarking of inefficient farms. Agricultural extension staff should visit the vegetable farms on regular basis and give necessary information about efficient utilization of energy inputs. The government should create awareness about the optimum use of input through seminars and pamphlets.
In this paper, new methodology is proposed to estimate the cooling load using design parameters of building and predicted weather data. Only two parameters such as maximum and minimum temperature are necessary to obtain hourly distribution of cooling load for the next day. The maximum and minimum temperature that are used for input parameters can be obtained from forecasted weather data. Benchmarking building(research building) is selected to validate the performance of the proposed method, and the estimated cooling loads in hourly bases are calculated and compared with the measured data for benchmarking building. The estimated results show fairly good agreement with the measured data for benchmarking building.
This paper proposes a framework for understanding the energy consumption differences between tall and low-rise buildings. Energy usage data from 706 office buildings in New York illustrates expected correlations from the framework. Notable correlations include: taller buildings tend to use more energy until a plateau at 30~39 floors; tall buildings in Manhattan use 20% more energy than low-rise buildings in Manhattan, while tall buildings outside Manhattan use 4% more energy than low-rise buildings outside Manhattan. Additional correlations are discussed, among which is the trend that the Energy Star program in New York City assigns higher ratings to tall buildings with higher EUIs than low-rise buildings with the same EUI. Since Energy Star is based on regressions of existing buildings, the Energy Star ratings suggest taller buildings have higher EUIs than shorter buildings, which is confirmed by the New York City energy benchmarking data.

The current paper is on a study of the performance estimation fer data processing time and CPU utilization to efficiently develop the real-time system. The analytical modeling and OPNET modeling and benchmarking tests are applied to perform the estimation for data processing time and CPU utilization in real-time system. We demonstrate that the estimation results can be predicted fairly and accurately through the benchmarking test results although there is a small variance between the estimation results and the benchmarking test results.
