This study examined the difference in children's performance between two types of task by the number of protagonists and children's implicit understanding of false-belief. The implicit measure by eye gaze was contrasted with children's explicit answers to the experimenter's question about where the protagonist would look for an object. Results showed there was no difference according to the task type by number of protagonists. On false-belief, 2- and 3-year-olds showed low performance compared with 4-year-olds on explicit responses. On implicit responses, 3- and 4-year-olds out-performed 2-year-olds. These results suggest that implicit understanding precedes explicit understanding.

The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between motivational belief about learning science, self-directed learning ability and conceptual understanding of matter change with a quantitative method, assuming that motivational belief and self-directed learning ability might affect conceptual understanding. To do this, the authors investigated middle school students' motivational belief about learning science, self-directed learning ability, and conceptual understanding of matter change using measurement tools based on previous studies, and then analysed the casual relationship between three variables using PLS structural equation model. As a result, three latent variables in this study could be evaluated as appropriated in reliability and validity. And also, self-directed learning ability could affect both the motivational belief and conceptual understanding, while motivational belief could affect only self-directed learning ability but not conceptual understanding. Through this study the authors confirmed that in the context of science learning self-directed learning ability can directly affect conceptual understanding but motivational belief can affect indirectly. This study is significant in that the causal relationship between different variables in science learning could be confirmed in a quantitate manner, and also in that it can suggest PLS structural equation method as a new research methodology in science education research area.
This paper analyzed the relationship between middle school students' belief about understanding with regard to mathematical concepts, procedures, and applications of the procedures. In order to gain our purpose, the academic achievement results of midterm examination of 139 middle school students and the surveys about their beliefs about understanding, mathematical concepts, and mathematical procedures were collected. And the cross analysis and the frequency analysis of SPSS were conducted. The research results showed that students' belief about understanding are irrelevant to their academic achievements. And the percentage of the students who believe that they understand was almost the same with the percentage of the students who understand the procedures. But there were differences between the percentage of the students who believe that they understand and the percentage of the students who understand the concepts. Through these, it is conformed. Students' belief about understanding does not mean they understand mathematical concepts. They just can solve mathematical problems through mechanical procedures.
Understanding the belief of mathematics pre-service teachers is essential in conducting and designing the effective teacher education program. This study analyzed the mathematical belief of the elementary school pre-service teachers. The results of the study are as follows. First, persistence factor, which is the belief about solving mathematical problems, following teacher direction factor, which is the belief about mathematical studies, activity involvement factor, and interest factor, which is the belief about self-concept, showed much connection with other mathematical belief factors. Second, the stereotype factor, which is the belief about mathematics, are affecting the following teacher direction factor. The process factor, which is the belief about solving mathematical problems, are affecting the activity involvement factor. Third, as for the comparison of the mathematical beliefs according to grades, only the stereotype and usefulness factors, which are the beliefs about mathematics, and the benefit factor, which is the belief about self-concept, had statistically significant differences. Fourth, as for the comparison of the mathematical beliefs according to majors, all the mathematical beliefs except for the confidence factor and benefit factor, which is the belief about self-concept, had significant differences. Based on the results of this study, we need to establish the mathematical beliefs that the elementary school pre-service teachers should have, and prepare various measures such as education program for pre-service teachers and instruction-learning methods.

COVID-19 vaccines have been developed worldwide in order to prevent the spread of coronavirus infection-19, but some people tend to refuse to be vaccinated against COVID-19. Therefore, we will investigate how people's understanding of COVID-19 vaccines affects their attitude to accept COVID-19 vaccination information. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to examine the determinants that affect the acceptability of COVID-19 vaccine through the informational characteristics of COVID-19 vaccine and the individual health belief theory. This study conducted an offline survey of 215 adult men and women living in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do Province during the period from September 1 to September 10, 2022, and we have conducted a final analysis using a total of 212 questionnaires. The results of our study were as follows. First, among the information characteristics of COVID-19 vaccine, it was confirmed that the amount of information had a significant positive effect on susceptibility, severity, and barriers in health belief theory, respectively. Second, among the information characteristics of COVID-19 vaccine, it was found that the quality of information had a significant positive effect on the susceptibility in health belief theory. Third, susceptibility and barriers in the health belief theory significantly had a positive effect on voluntary attitude and involuntary attitude in acceptance attitude, respectively. And finally, it was found that the severity of the health belief theory had a positive effect on the involuntary attitude in acceptance attitude. The results of this study suggest that policy efforts are needed to make accurate information about COVID-19 vaccine known to the people.
Despite increasing consumption of luxury brands, research about consumption of luxury brands is limited. The purpose of this article is to gain a deeper understanding of important role of intrinsic consumption motivations in consumption of luxury brands. This article investigated the relationships among consumption motivations, conspicuous consumption belief, Product quality belief, and attitude toward consumption of luxury brands using structural equation modeling. The results reveal that, other-oriented consumers were likely to have strong conspicuous consumption belief, whereas consumers with strong self-oriented value tended to place more importance on product quality attribute of luxury brands. Moreover, Consumers who take into account extended-self tended to have strong conspicuous consumption belief while consumer who put more importance on experientialism were more likely to have greater importance on product quality atthbute. And both conspicuous consumption belief and product quality belief influenced positive attitude formation toward luxury brands.
This study was conducted on 350 students of health and medical department of universities in Busan from June 3, 2013 to June 21, 2013, and a total of 350 questionnaires were researched. Among them 337 responses were used after 13 unfaithful responses were excluded. The effects of oral health belief on use of dental service of students of health and medical department of universities were examined and analyzed to provide basic data which can be used to expand understanding about oral health belief, to promote changes in behaviors regarding oral health and to improve oral health of the public. Collected data was analyzed through SPSS (Statistical Packages for Social Science 15.0. SPSS Inc. USA). For verification of differences of oral health belief depending on general matters and oral health behavior, t-test and ANOVA analysis were conducted, and for examination of the effects of oral health belief on use of medical service, logistic regression and regression analysis were conducted. The study results suggest that those who had higher sensitivity among oral health belief variables had higher probability of needing dental treatment and seeing the dentist immediately. And those who showed higher sensitivity and importance had higher frequency of seeing the dentist for six months. Future studies need to be conducted on the methods to change oral health belief for sustainable and systematic oral health enhancement in consideration of the factors affecting oral health belief and oral health behavior of the students of dental hygiene department.

The units about electricity in 5th and 6th science curriculum for elementary school was analyzed and the elementary students' understanding of related concepts was investigated. This study was to make connection between the research about alternative concepts and writing textbooks. It was found that students' response had following characteristics. They had strong belief that the + and - ends of battery should be connected. However this belief was not complete because students did not understand that the other circuit elements had to be connected properly. When the circuit involve more than one bulbs or batteries, they counted the number of batteries or bulbs only and paid little attention to the connection of them. In explaining circuits and the brightness of the bulbs in the circuits. students tried to explains the circuit using scientific terms but failed to used them properly. Although the concept of resistance was not dealt explicitly. student had reasonable qualitative understanding about resistance. According to response of students, several suggestions might be made for the curriculum. The structure and the circuit elements and the proper connection needs to be taught. Also more emphasis is necessary to pay attention to the connection in addition to the numbers of bulbs or batteries. Finally, it needs to be investigated carefully if it is better to introduce some qualitative model to explain the amount of current through bulb depending on the connection and the number of bulbs. It might also be better to introduce some terms, such as current and resistance with the model.

Disaster mythology is "beliefs about human behavior in disaster that have been proven to be wrong through scientifically conducted research studies." Disaster researchers have discovered a series of disaster myths. The results of research survey based on 491 individuals confirm prior research representing widespread belief in disaster mythology such as panic, looting, crime, evacuation and lethargy. This study also indicates that, while high, the percentage of local government officials demonstrating belief in disaster myths was lower than the public except for looting. The probability of believing disaster myths was greater for individuals who were female (panic and evacuation), old (evacuation and lethargy), in their twenties and thirties (looting), and officials with disaster related work experience (panic, looting and crime). The results indicate the importance of understanding public belief to make effective emergency plans.
To improve the understanding and predicting power of littering behavior in natural recreation areas, a model was proposed based on the theory of reasoned action by Fishbein and Ajzen. Among the visitors of Kaeryongsan National Park in Korea, three hundred and ninety nine (399) groups were interviewed to obtain such data as beliefs about the behavioral consequences, attitudes, normative belief, socioeconomic status and etc. A significant but practically weak relationship was found between beliefs, normative belief and past behavior (R=0.3). Using Logit analysis, past behavior could be explained with relevant variables in an acceptable power ($R^2$=0.35). In the model, education, social group, occupation, age and visiting frequency were all negatively related to past behabavior. Beliefs and normative belief also behaved as expected by the theory. The study results show that the theory may be useful in predicting the undesirable behaviors in recreation areas and establishing management policy to control them. The cause of weak relationships between relevant variables were discussed and future research implications were also suggested.
