The use of external carbon-fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) wraps is one of the most effective techniques existing for the confinement of the circular concrete columns. Currently, several researches have been made to develop models for predicting the behavior of this type of confinement. The disadvantage of the most models, is to not take into account the contribution of the transverse steel reinforcements (TSR) effect, However, very limited models have been recently developed that considers this combined effect and gives less accurate results. This paper presents the development of a new model for the axial behavior of circular concrete columns confined by combining external CFRP warps-and-internal TSR (hoops or spirals) based on the existing experimental data. The comparison between the proposed model and the experimental results showed good agreement comparing to the several existing models. Moreover, the expressions of estimating the ultimate strength and the corresponding strain are simple and precise, which make it easy to use in the design applications.

This study was carried out to identify destination choice behavior for one-day use recreation areas. Previous positioning study was utilized to select 4 study areas, and the secondary data were used for logit analyses. The Hausamn-McFadden test for IIA was conducted to examine whether conditional logit models are valid methodology for this study. The results revealed that IIA assumption among the study areas was violated; therefore, generalized binomial and generalized multinomial logit models were used in this study. In the binomial logit analysis, 2 to 5 independent variables were included in the models: their $\rho$2 values were from 0.1to 0.323, and accuracy of predictions were from 65.38 to 79.86 percent. In the multinomial logit analysis, 4 independent variables were included in the model: its $\rho$2 value was 0.207, and accuracy of prediction was 45.82 percent. The results showed that the conditional logit should be used with caution because of the IIA assumption. Several suggestions were described, mainly due to utilization of the secondary data for this study.

Constitutive models for final stage densification of metal powder compacts with power-law creep deformation were investigated. The constitutive models were implemented into a finite element program (ABAQUS) by using user subroutine CREEP and, from FEM results, useful densification curves were obtained when hydrostatic and uniaxial stress were applied to the powder compacts at various pressures and temperatures. Because the densification behavior varied as the constitutive models, the equivalent stress surface on each constitutive equation was investigated to analyze the difference of densification behavior.

Seismic probabilistic risk assessment (SPRA) requires a large number of simulations to evaluate the seismic vulnerability of structural and nonstructural components in nuclear power plants. The effect of structural modeling and analysis assumptions on dynamic analysis of 3D and simplified 2D stick models of auxiliary buildings and the attached nonstructural components is investigated. Dynamic characteristics and seismic performance of building models are also evaluated, as well as the computational accuracy of the models. The presented results provide a better understanding of the dynamic behavior and seismic performance of auxiliary buildings. The results also help to quantify the impact of uncertainties associated with modeling and analysis of simplified numerical models of structural and nonstructural components subjected to seismic shaking on the predicted seismic failure probabilities of these systems.
This paper aims to develop models to accurately predict the behavior of fresh concrete exposed to vibration using artificial neural networks (ANNs) model and regression model (RM). For this purpose, behavior of a full scale precast concrete mold was investigated experimentally and numerically. Experiment was performed under vibration with the use of a computer-based data acquisition system. Transducers were used to measure time-dependent lateral displacements at some points on mold while both mold is empty and full of fresh concrete. Modeling of empty and full mold was made using both ANNs and RM. For the modeling of ANNs: Experimental data were divided randomly into two parts. One of them was used for training of the ANNs and the remaining part was used for testing the ANNs. For the modeling of RM: Sinusoidal regression model equation was determined and the predicted data was compared with measured data. Finally, both models were compared with each other. The comparisons of both models show that the measured and testing results are compatible. Regression analysis is a traditional method that can be used for modeling with simple methods. However, this study also showed that ANN modeling can be used as an alternative method for behavior of fresh concrete exposed to vibration in precast concrete structures.

We propose the software framework construction method that increases reusability through use case extraction and structuring of software system's dynamic behavior of which identifying behavior patterns from software domain models. Most behavior models do not provide a consistent modeling technique for harmonizing user's heterogeneous requirements, and not yet prepared to a detailed optimizing technique for redevelopment and maintenance. Therefore, we need a software reuse framework to support consistency and reusability of existing development models using use cases with functional characteristics. a lattice model is used to this approach for structuring use cases, and the reuse process that can be driven to reusable components is introduced in this paper,.
Bone properties are one of the key components when constructing models that can simulate the mechanical behavior of a mandible. Due to the complexity of the structure, the tooth, ligaments, different bones etc., some simplifications are often considered and bone properties are one of them. The objective of this study is to understand if a simplification of the problem is possible and assess its influence on mandible behavior. A cadaveric toothless mandible was used to build three computational models from CT scan information: a full cortical bone model; a cortical and cancellous bone model, and a model where the Young's modulus was obtained as function of the pixel value in a CT scan. Twelve muscle forces were applied on the mandible. Results showed that although all the models presented the same type of global behavior and proximity in some locations, the influence of cancellous bone can be seen in strain distribution. The different Young's modulus defined by the CT scan gray scale influenced the maximum and minimum strains. For modeling general behavior, a full cortical bone model can be effective. However, when cancellous bone is included, maximum values in thin regions increase the strain distribution. Results revealed that when properties are assigned to the gray scale some peaks could occur which did not represent the real situation.
In order to determine procedures for a, pp.opriate model selection of technological growth curves, numerous time series that were representative of growth behavior were collected according to data characteristics. Three different growth curve models were fitted onto data sets in an attempt to determine which growth curve models achieved the best forecasts for types of growth data. The analysis of the results gives rise to an a, pp.oach for selecting a, pp.opriate growth curve models for a given set of data, prior to fitting the models, based on the characteristics of the goodness of fit test.

This paper presents experimental results of a series of 1-g shaking table model tests performed on end-bearing single piles and pile groups to investigate the effect of particle size on the dynamic behavior of soil-pile systems. Two soil-pile models consisting of a single-pile and a $4{\times}2$-pile group were tested twice; first using Jumoonjin sand, and second using Australian Fine sand, which has a smaller particle size. In the case of single-pile models, the lateral displacement was almost within 1% of pile diameter which corresponds to the elastic range of the pile. The back-calculated p-y curves show that the subgrade reaction of the Jumoonjin-sand-model ground was larger than that of the Australian Fine-sand-model ground at the same displacement. This phenomenon means that the stress-strain behavior of Jumoonjin sand was initially stiffer than that of Australian Fine sand. This difference was also confirmed by resonant column tests and compression triaxial tests. And the single pile p-y backbone curves of the Australian fine sand were constructed and compared with those of the Jumoonjin sand. As a result, the stiffness of the p-y backbone curves of Jumunjin sand was larger than those of Australian fine sand. Therefore, using the same p-y curves regardless of particle size can lead to inaccurate results when evaluating dynamic behavior of soil-pile system. In the case of the group-pile models, the lateral displacement was much larger than the elastic range of pile movement at the same test conditions in the single-pile models. The back-calculated p-y curves in the case of group pile models were very similar in both sands because the stiffness difference between the Jumoonjin-sand-model ground and the Australian Fine-sand-model ground was not significantly large at a large strain level, where both sands showed non-linear behavior. According to a series of single pile and group pile test results, the evaluation group pile effect using the p-multiplier can lead to inaccurate results on dynamic behavior of soil-pile system.
The electrorheological (ER) behavior of chitosan suspension in the silicone oil was investigated. Chitosan suspension showed a typical ER response, Bingham flow behavior upon application of an electric field due to the polarizability of the branched amino group of the chitosan particles. The shear yield stress exhibited a linear dependence on the volume fraction of particles and the squared electric field. On the basis of the experimental results, chitosan suspension has been correlated with the conduction models for ER response and found to be an ER fluid.
