Thermal Flow Characteristics of a Hybrid Plant Factory with Multi-layer Cultivation Shelves (다층 재배선반을 갖는 하이브리드 식물공장의 열유동 특성)

  • Plant factories are plant cultivation systems which produce farm products uniformly under the controlled environmental condition regardless of seasons and places. Thermal flow in the plant factory is an important parameter in cultivating plants. In this research, we study thermal flow characteristics for a hybrid plant factory with multi-layer cultivation shelves using computer simulation techniques. In order to obtain numerical solutions for thermal flow characteristics, a finite volume method was applied. We consider a low-Reynolds-number ${\kappa}-{\epsilon}$ turbulence model, incompressible viscous flows, and pressure boundary conditions for numerical simulation. Commercial software Solid Works Flow Simulation is then used to investigate characteristics of thermal flows in the plant factory applying several different inflow air velocities and arrangements of cultivation shelves. From numerical analysis results, we found that temperatures in cultivation shelves were uniformly distributed for Case 3 when the inflow air velocity was 1.6 m/s by using a blower in the plant factory. However in Case 1 lower temperature distributions were observed in test beds, TB2 and TB3, which indicated that additional temperature control efforts would be required. Average shelf temperature increased by $3^{\circ}C$ using artificial light source (DYLED47) with 50% blue and 50% red LED ratios. Korea Academia-Industrial cooperation Society.

  • The 3 ton/day-scale pilot plant consists of waste press, feed channel, fixed bed type gasification & melting furnace, quench scrubber, syngas refinery facility and flare stack. $H_2$/CO ratio of gasification syngas using the solid waste and sludge in the 3 ton/day gasifier showed about 1. Gasification melting furnace was operated $1,300{\sim}1,600^{\circ}C$. $H_2$/CO ration control system was obtained $H_2$/CO ratio 2 and 3.

  • Three years($2004{\sim}2007$) survey was conducted on the incidence of silkworm diseases namely, Grasserie, Flacherie, Muscardine and Uzi fly, a silkworm pest with 150 sericulture farmers in the districts of Chittoor and Anantapur in Andhra Pradesh. The data revealed that grasserie and flacherie incidence were maximum in summer season and minimum in winter season whereas muscardine was observed high in winter season in both the areas and rarely in rainy season in Chittoor and Anantapur districts. An improvement of 11.16 and 7.6 kg cocoons/100 dfls were recorded in the batches of PM xCSR2 Diseases free layings(Dfls) reared in rearing houses disinfected with 2% bleaching powder and Ankush, a plant based bed disinfectant applied as per schedule, respectively. The Uzi fly incidence was suppressed by 61.02% in batches where the integrated package was adopted for control of Uzi fly infestation.

Spherical Granule Production from Micronized Saltwort (Salicornia herbacea) Powder as Salt Substitute

  • The whole saltwort plant (Salicornia herbacea) was micronized to develop the table salt substitute. The micronized powder was mixed with distilled water and made into a spherical granule by using the fluid-bed coater (SGMPDW). The SGMPDW had superior flowability to powder; however, it had low dispersibility. To increase the dispersibility of SGMPDW, the micronized powder was mixed with the solution, which contained various soluble solid contents of saltwort aqueous extract (SAE), and made into a spherical granule (SGMPSAE). The SGMPSAE prepared with the higher percentages of solid content of SAE showed improved dispersibility in water and an increase in salty taste. The SGMPSAE prepared with 10% SAE was shown to possess the best physicochemical properties and its relative saltiness compared to NaCl (0.39). In conclusion, SGMPSAEs can be used as a table salt substitute and a functional food material with enhanced absorptivity and convenience.

  • Lab-scale biofilter was studied for the simultaneous removal of ammonia and hydrogen sulfide in gas mixtures. Compost and polyurethane foam were used as packing materials (50 : 50) and activated sludge from a wastewater treatment plant was innoculated initially. When tested under varying inlet concentrations and empty bed residence time(EBRT), up to 80 ppmv of ammonia and 40 ppmv of hydrogen sulfide could be removed completely at an EBRT of 30 sec. The pH was found to be the key factor governing the biofilter performance.

  • Circulating fludized bed(CFB) furnace which can use a variety of low-grade fuels because of high heat capacity and good mixing characteristic in its furnace have turned out to be effective system. There is no many research to design CFB boiler in korea. thus, we feel necessity to research design method. So far accurate hydrodynamics and combustion mechanism information in CFB furnace has been lacked. Therefore, design method that derives design parameter is being made. so, this study is aimed to derive design parameters of CFB furnace from heat and mass balance by using existing plant data.

  • A mathematical analysis of bipolar electrode reactor model for complex electrochemical reactions could estimate total current from time-concentration data, which coincided well with experimental total current data. Thus behaviour of bipolar electrode reactor could be described by a proposed simulation model. This paper demonstrates how such a model can be used a useful tool in the design for pilot plant experimentation.

  • In this study, as MBBR(Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor) process using waste tire media is suggested for retrofitting with advanced wastewater treatment and the removal property of organic matter and nutrient and the capacity of media are evaluated through long-term operation with pilot plant following seasons, the application capacity of retrofitting with MBBR process to a existing wastewater treatment is studied. As a result of the long-term operation of the process, it is proved that there is no loss and abrasion of media, and also that it is possible to secure the sufficient attached bio-mass. The values of organic matter and nutrient in effluent are suitable for the strict discharged water quality standards in every season including winter.

  • Triso-type coating layers of silicon carbide and graphite on UO2 paticulate nuclear fuel were prepared by using fluidized bed type chemical vapor deposition and self-propagating high temperature synthesis methods to make a coated nuclear fuel of a power plant for hydrogen mass-production. The source and carrier gases were the mixture of methyltrichlorosilane and propane, and inert argon. Chemical analysis and microstructure observation showed that the coated layers were inner graphite, middle silicon carbide and outer graphite. The elastic modulus and nano-hardness of the silicon carbide layer were 503 [GPa] and 36 [GPa], respectively.

  • Wind power plant is based on the wind energy so the active power is frequently changed and connected to grid according with wind condition. These characteristics are bed effect to distribution line. On this reserch, we want to analyze the quality of electric power synchro/asynchronous generation system in Dae Kwan Ryung wind farm. The contents of analysis are active/reactive power variation and total demand distortion and transiency and sag/swell phenomena. we hope this research can contribute to the power quality improvement.
