This study analyzes about automotive engine tension bearing through the structural analyses of fatigue and vibration. Maximum equivalent stress is shown at the lower of tensioner. Among the cases of nonuniform fatigue loads, 'SAE bracket history' with the severest change of load becomes most unstable but 'Sample history' becomes most stable. In case of 'Sample history' with the average stress of 0 to $-10^{6}MPa$, the possibility of maximum damage becomes 3%. This stress state can be shown with 6 times more than the damage possibility of 'SAE Bracket history' or 'SAE transmission'. The structural result of this study can be effectively utilized with the design of tension bearing by investigating prevention and durability against its damage.

The objective of this paper is to introduce the standard of evaluation methods and fatigue test for linear motion rolling bearing. In particular, attention well be given to the list of evaluation and fatigue results in this paper. The life of a linear motion rolling bearing is given by the length of distance covered between the connection parts before the first evidence of fatigue develops in the material of one of the raceways of rolling elements. The main factors that contribute to fatigue failures include: Number of load cycles experienced; Range of stress experienced in each load cycle; Mean stress experienced in each toad cycle; Presence of local stress concentrations.

In this paper, the stress-strain curves of bearing steels at hot working conditions are obtained by hot compression test with a computer controlled servo-hydraulic Gleeble 3800 testing machine and elongations and reductions of area of the bearing steels are also obtained by hot tensile test with a Gleeble 1500 testing machine. Experiments are conducted under the various strain-rates and temperatures and their results are used to obtain the flow stress information. A rigid thermo-viscoplastic finite element method is applied to the multi-stage hot forging process in order to predict temperature distribution of workpiece. The experimental results and the analysis results are used to obtain an optimal hot forging condition.

In this paper the stress-strain curves of bearing steels at hot working conditions are obtained by compression test with a computer controlled servo-hydraulic Gleeble 3800 testing machine and elongations and reductions of area of the bearing steels are obtained by tensile test with a computer controlled servo-hydraulic Gleeble 1500 testing machine. These tests have been focused to obtain the flow stress data and optimal hot forging conditions under various conditions of strain rates and temperatures. The strain rate sensitivity exponent and reduction of area of the materials are evaluated. Experimental results are resented for various conditions of temperatures and strain rates.
A new theoretical approach for analysis of stress around a tensioned anchor in rock is presented in this paper. The solution has been derived for semi-infinite elastic rock and anchor and for plane strain conditions. The method considers both the anchor head bearing plate and its grouted bond length embedded in depth. The solution of the tensioned rock anchor problem is obtained by superimposing the solutions of two simpler but fundamental problems: A distributed load applied at a finite portion (bearing plate area) of the rock surface and a distributed shear stress applied at the anchor-rock interface along the bond length. The solution of the first problem already exists and the solution of the shear stress distributed along the bond length is found in this study. To acquire a deep understanding of the stress distribution around a tensioned anchor in rock, an illustrative example is solved and stress contours are drawn for stress components. In order to verify the results obtained by the proposed solution, comparisons are made with finite difference method (FDM) results. Very good agreements are observed for the teoretical results in comparison with FDM.
This study is about design and verification of stress reduction of bearings for wind turbines. In a slewing bearing having a typical four-contact structure, the contact point moves to the end of the raceway due to a large moment load, resulting in a stress concentration. A bearing was designed to reduce such contact point movement. The deformation behavior of typical ball bearings and newly designed bearings was calculated through finite element analysis under ultimate load by replacing the ball with a spring element. The contact stress between the ball and the raceway was calculated by finite element analysis by inputting the deformation behavior analysis result as a boundary condition. The effectiveness of the bearing stress analysis method using spring elements was verified through comparison of the contact stress according to the bearing structure.
This paper reports the results of an experimental examination using X-rays to test annealing materials for lapped bearing steel (STB2), to confirm the validity of the weighted averaging analysis method. The distribution behavior for the α𝜓-sin2𝜓 diagram and the presence or absence of differences in the peak method, half-value breadth method, and centroid method were investigated. When lapping the annealed bearing steel (STB2) material, a residual stress state with a non-directional steep gradient appeared in the surface layer, and it was found that the weighted averaging analysis method was effective. If there is a steep stress gradient, the sin2𝜓 diagram is curved and the diffraction intensity distribution curve becomes asymmetric, resulting in a difference between the peak method, half-value breadth method, and centroid method. This phenomenon was evident when the stress gradient was more than 2~3 kg/mm2/㎛. In this case, if the position of the diffraction line is determined using the centroid method and the weighted averaging analysis method is applied, the stress value on the surface and the stress gradient under the surface can be obtained more accurately. When the stress gradient becomes a problem, since the curvature of the sin2𝜓 diagram appears clearly in the region of sin2𝜓 > 0.5, it is necessary to increase the inclination angle 𝜓 as much as possible. In the case of a lapping layer, a more accurate value can be obtained by considering 𝜎3 in the weighted averaging analysis method. In an isotropic biaxial residual stress state, the presence or absence of 𝜎3 can be determined as the presence or absence of strain for sin2𝜓≈0.4.
This paper presents the contact stress distributions between the multi-contact bodies and the total reaction forces for various types of contact geometry for multi-load slewing ring bearings. The FEM results indicate that the slope of the roller type of slewing ring bearing has slightly steeper than that of the ball type. This is because the roller type wire race bearings is stiffer than the ball type bearing. The total reaction force of ball type slewing bearing shows much higher than that of wire race slewing bearings.

3D finite element analyses of movable bearing shoe and hinged bearing shoe are performed. The finite element models are built using MSC/PATRAN and analyses are carried out using MSC/NASTRAN. Results are again completely processed using MSC/PATRAN. From the results of the analyses, trends of deformation and stress distribution are reviewed and important factors to consider in the design of bearing shoes are discussed. Furthermore optimum crowning amount for the roller of movable bearing shoe was determined according to the results of the analyses.
In this paper, slit steel rubber bearing is presented as an innovative seismic isolator device. In this type of isolator, slit steel damper is an energy dissipation device. Its advantages in comparison with that of the lead rubber bearing are its simplicity in manufacturing process and replacement of its yielding parts. Also, slit steel rubber bearing has the same ability to dissipate energy with smaller value of displacement. Using finite element method in ABAQUS software, a parametric study is done on the performance of this bearing. Three different kinds of isolator with three different values of strut width, 9, 12 and 15 mm, three values of thickness, 4, 6 and 8 mm and two steel types with different yield stress are assessed. Effects of these parameters on the performance characteristics of slit steel rubber bearing are studied. It is shown that by decreasing the thickness and strut width and by selecting the material with lower yield stress, values of effective stiffness, energy dissipation capacity and lateral force in the isolator reduce but equivalent viscous damping is not affected significantly. Thus, by choosing appropriate values for thickness, strut width and slit steel damper yield stress, an isolator with the desired behavior can be achieved. Finally, the performance of an 8-storey frame with the proposed isolator is compared with the same frame equipped with LRB. Results show that SSRB is successful in base shear reduction of structure in a different way from LRB.
