  • With the recent introduction of 5G, electromagnetic radiation sources are spreading throughout life, so it is necessary to establish a citizen-centered electromagnetic safety management system. In particular, the beamforming method of the 5G antenna increases the power density measurement of electromagnetic waves by more than 10 times when the wireless base station is installed, so it is unreasonable to determine the safety by physical measurement. Therefore, it is necessary to determine the presence or absence of electromagnetic wave safety in daily life through a predictive method by calculation through systematic model analysis. In this paper, in order to check the possibility of a 5G wireless base station using an electromagnetic wave numerical analysis tool as a way to solve this problem, we compared the measured values of the actual base stations and the predicted values through the prediction model to compare the reliability. A method of constructing a real-time base station electromagnetic wave strength prediction evaluation system combined with software was also proposed.

  • In this study, a customized semi-passive RFID receiver module was implemented for in-VIVO deep tissue photo-therapy. A novel wireless technique is required due to a limitation of RF communication in body environment, as internal body has a complex structure such as, skin, fat, skeleton, water, and so on. Recently, coherently incoherent beamforming (CIB) based on RFID was introduced and it is able to transmit wireless signal with high reliability under the incoherent condition such as in-VIVO deep tissue. The proposed miniature photo capsule based on RFID consists of miniature controller, ultra small LED array and wireless RFID chip. RF Reader can access with standard RFID protocol (ISO 18000-6c) using UHF RFID antenna, a control command is wirelessly writtern on USER Bank memory. With received control command, therapy LED array dims with mulilevel under timer control. The signal process of designed RFID photo therapy capsule is analyzed and evaluated under the various environments in detailed.

  • Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) is an auxiliary safety system for recognizing the condition of tires based on the pressure and temperature data transmitted from the sensor unit installed on a tire of the vehicle. Using TPMS, a driver can frequently check the state of tires and it aids to maintain the optimum running condition of the vehicle. Since TPMS must utilize the wireless communication technique to transmit data from a sensor unit to a signal processing unit installed in the vehicle, it suffers from interference signals caused by various external electrical or electronic devices. In order to suppress high-power interference signals, we employ beamforming techniques based on the uniform linear antenna array. As the number of the antennas is increased, the performance of the interference suppression is improved. However, there is the limit of the number of antennas, installed in the center of a vehicle, because of its size. In this paper, we compare and analyze the performance of the beamformer, when reducing the interelement spacing of antennas, to increase the number of the receiving antennas. For the performance analysis of the beamformers, we consider the switching beamformer and minimum-variance distortionless-response (MVDR) beamformer for TPMS, recently proposed.

  • For long-term evolution (LTE) MIMO transmission, codebooks are used to utilize the estimated channel information under the limited feedeback environment, and related study has been actively performed. Existing codebooks include codevectos constructed based on vector quantization (VQ) and discrete Fourier transform (DFT), and the LTE standard specifies codebooks modified from these examples to support up to 8 transmit antennas. As the number of antennas increases and as the spatial channel model is used as a standard environment to evaluate the LTE transmission performance, new beamforming methods as well as codebook designs are needed. In this paper, we implement the 3-dimensional spatial channel model (3D-SCM) to analyze the key statistical characteristics of the generated channel, and present efficient ways of determining corresponding codebooks. In particular, we propose a nonuniform-phase DFT-based codebook to improve the existing uniform-phase DFT-based codebook, and evaluate its performance under the given SCM transmission environment. There exists a strong tendancy in statistical distributions of the phase difference between adjacent antenna elements for the SCM, which can be appropriately exploited in codebook design to produce a performance gain over the existing design.
