Energy harvesting is an increasingly attractive source of power for cellular networks, and can be a promising solution for green networks. In this paper, we consider a cellular network with power beacons powering multiple mobile terminals with microwave power transfer in energy beamforming. In this network, the power beacons are powered by grid and renewable energy jointly. We adopt a dual-level control architecture, in which controllers collect information for a core controller, and the core controller has a real-time global view of the network. By implementing the water filling optimized power allocation strategy, the core controller optimizes the energy allocation among mobile terminals within the same cluster. In the proposed green energy cooperation paradigm, power beacons dynamically share their renewable energy by locally injecting/drawing renewable energy into/from other power beacons via the core controller. Then, we propose a new water filling optimized green energy cooperation management strategy, which jointly exploits water filling optimized power allocation strategy and green energy cooperation in cellular networks. Finally, we validate our works by simulations and show that the proposed water filling optimized green energy cooperation management strategy can achieve about 10% gains of MT's average rate and about 20% reduction of on-grid energy consumption.
We propose a new indoor positioning algorithm named Cut-off algorithm. This algorithm cuts off candidates of beacons and reference points in advance, before looking for K neighbor reference points which are guessed to be closest to the user's actual location. The algorithm consists of two phases: off-line phase, and on-line phase. In the off-line phase, RSSI and UUID data from beacons are gathered at reference points placed in the indoor environment, and construct a fingerprint map of the data. In the on-line phase, the map is reduced to a smaller one according to the RSSI data of beacons received from the user's device. The nearest K reference points are selected using the reduced map, which are used for estimating user's location. In both phases, relative ranks of the peak signals received from each beacon are used, which smoothen the fluctuations of the signals. The algorithm is shown to be more efficient in terms of accuracy and estimating time.

An arbitration method is proposed to resolve a collision and arbitrate beacon transmissions in an indoor Positioning system consisting of multiple beacons and listeners. Although two or more beacons may compete to transmit signals simultaneously, a single winner in the competition is determined autonomously through the arbitration process while they are transmitting. So, it can continue to send its data, but the others give up their transmissions during the arbitration process. As a consequence, update rate for location information and channel utilization can be improved by avoiding that all beacons fail due to a collision. Once a beacon succeeds in transmitting its signal, a low-level priority is assigned to it. And a high-level priority is allocated to a beacon which gave up its transmission during arbitration process. This will guarantee every beacon has fair transmission opportunity with the arbitration method. As no centralized control is required among beacons, a Positioning system can still be easily deployed and expanded with this arbitration method.

Recently, with the development of service robots and the concept of ubiquitous, the position estimation of mobile objects has received great interest. Some of the localization schemes are introduced, which provide the relative location of the moving objects subjected to accumulated errors. To implement a real time localization system, a new absolute position estimation method for a mobile robot in indoor environment is proposed. Design and implementation of the localization system comes from the usage of active beacon systems (based upon RFID technology). The active beacon system is composed of an RFID receiver and an ultra-sonic transmitter. The RFID receiver gets the synchronization signal from the mobile robot and the ultra-sonic transmitter sends out the traveling signal to be used for measuring the distance. Position of a mobile robot in a three dimensional space can be calculated basically from the distance information from three beacons and the absolute position information of the beacons themselves. In some case, the mobile robot can acquire the ultrasonic signals from only one or two beacons, due to the obstacles located along the moving path. In this paper, a position estimation scheme using fewer than three sensors is developed. Also, the extended Kalman filter algorithm is applied for the improvement of position estimation accuracy of the mobile robot.

Indoor location system using wireless sensor network technology was applied for the status evaluation and activity monitoring of elderly person or chronic invalid at home. Location awareness application is transparent to the daily activities, while providing the embedded computing infrastructure with an awareness of what is happening in this space. To locate an object, the active ceiling-mounted reference beacons were placed throughout the building. Reference beacons periodically publish location information on RF and ultrasonic signals to allow application running on mobile or static nodes to study and determine their physical location. Once object-carried passive listener receives the information, it subsequently determines it's location from reference beacons. By using only the sensor nodes without any external network infrastructure the cost of the system was reduced while the accuracy in our experiments. was fairly good and fine grained between 7 and 15 cm for location awareness in indoor environments. Passive architecture used here provides the security of the user privacy while at the server the privacy was secured by providing the authentication using Geopriv approach. This information from sensor nodes is further forwarded to base station where further computation is performed to determine the current position of object and several applications are enabled for context awareness.
In this paper, we outline the research issues that we are pursuing towards building of location aware environments for mainly ubiquitous healthcare applications. Such location aware application can provide what is happening in this space. Wireless sensor network plays a prominent role in tracking the location of the target outdoor and indoor. This paper describes the implementation of the passive indoor location tracking system using ultrasonic and RF technologies that provides accurate location in the form of user space and position in three dimensions. Our system used a combination of RF and ultrasonic technologies to provide a location-support service to users and applicants. Ceiling-mounted beacons were spread through the building, publishing location information on an RF signal. The person carried a listener and the listener determined the location by calculating the distance from three beacons using triangulation algorithm.

The goal of the construction work in the past was to improve the efficiency through cost reduction and shortening the construction period. However, the importance of safety management has recently been emphasized, and the Ministry of Employment and Labor has set a goal of reducing the number of deaths caused by industrial accidents by half. As a result, institutional and legal improvements are pursued and the need for safety is emphasized. However, most construction companies, except for some large construction companies, are lacking in safety management. So, In this paper, we design and implement a safety management system for construction site using smart helmets and beacons.
Objectives: This paper describes an experience of implementing seamless service trials online and offline by adopting Internet of Things (IoT) technology based on near-field communication (NFC) tags and Bluetooth low-energy (BLE) beacons. The services were provided for both patients and health professionals. Methods: The pilot services were implemented to enhance healthcare service quality, improve patient safety, and provide an effective business process to health professionals in a tertiary hospital in Seoul, Korea. The services to enhance healthcare service quality include healing tours, cancer information/education, psychological assessments, indoor navigation, and exercise volume checking. The services to improve patient safety are monitoring of high-risk inpatients and delivery of real-time health information in emergency situations. In addition, the services to provide an effective business process to health professionals include surveys and web services for patient management. Results: Considering the sustainability of the pilot services, we decided to pause navigation and patient monitoring services until the interference problem could be completely resolved because beacon signal interference significantly influences the quality of services. On the other hand, we had to continue to provide new wearable beacons to high-risk patients because of hygiene issues, so the cost increased over time and was much higher than expected. Conclusions: To make the smart connected hospital services sustainable, technical feasibility (e.g., beacon signal interference), economic feasibility (e.g., continuous provision of new necklace beacons), and organizational commitment and support (e.g., renewal of new alternative medical devices and infrastructure) are required.
