KODOS 망간단괴의 SiO2-CaO-MnO 상관관계와 분포양상 (SiO2-CaO-MnO Correlations and Distributions of KODOS Manganese Nodules)

  • $SiO_2$ and CaO are added to decrease the smelting temperature in the reduction-smelting method for manganese nodule processing. These elements are components of the manganese nodules and might be very important controlling factors in the processing due to the locally variable content. The 707 chemical data of manganese nodules acquired from 1994 to 2001 in KODOS(Korea Deep Ocean Survey) area were used for the hierarchical cluster analysis. The chemical data were classified by the morphological types, and the averages of the chemical data for each station were classified by the facies groups and the localities. All data are plotted on the $SiO_2-CaO-MnO$ phase diagram at $1773^{\circ}K$ to compare with the best compositional area in the nodule smelting. Variations and distributions of $SiO_2$ and CaO in KODOS nodules were also reviewed. The mineral phases assigned by the cluster analysis are CFA(Carbonate Fluorapatite), Fe-oxide, Al-silicate, and Mn-oxide. MnO contents are generally higher than $SiO_2$ contents in most of the morphological types except for the Is- and It-type. The Dt- and Tt-type show wider range and the E-types show high anomaly in their CaO contents. The stations which belong to facies group A and B show generally higher MnO contents than $SiO_2$ contents, however, the stations of facies group C and D show wide range in their MnO and $SiO_2$ contents. It seems to be very important to control the $SiO_2$ contents in the processing because of the wide range in the northern area. The additions of approximately 10 wt.% CaO and 10 wt.% $SiO_2$ are recommended for the northern area, whereas, the additions of approximately 10 wt.% CaO and 20 wt.% $SiO_2$ are recommended for the southern area.

Oxygen Permeability Measurement of $ZrO_2-TiO_2-YB_2O_3$ Mixed Conductor

  • Electrical properties of $ZrO_2-TiO_2Yb_2O_3$mixed conductor (Ti-YbSZ) were investigated. This mixed conductor can be applied as a membrane for gas separation at high temperatures. The total conductivity decreased with increasing the $TiO_2$concentration. At high temperatures, the rate of the conductivity degradation became smaller than that at low temperatures. From the oxygen partial pressure dependence of the total conductivity of Ti-YbSZ, the electronic conductivity increased with increasing $TiO_2$concentration at low oxygen partial pressures and at high temperatures. Both 15 and 20 mol% $TiO_2$doped YbSZ showed high oxygen permeability. Mixed conductors, which has high $TiO_2$concentration in YbSZ, are promising materials for using as a membrane for gas separation at high temperatures.

  • In this study, RuO$_2$thin films were etched in inductively coupled $O_2$plasma. Etching characteristics of RuO$_2$thin films including etch rate and selectivity were evaluated as a function of rf power in $O_2$plasma and gas mixing ratio in $O_2$/Ar plasma. In $O_2$ plasma, the etch rate of RuO$_2$thin film increases as rf power increases. In $O_2$/Ar plasma, the etch rate of RuO$_2$thin film increases up to 10% Ar, but decrease with furthermore increasing Ar mixing ratio. The enhanced etch rate can be obtained with increasing rf power and small addition of Ar gas.

  • ZrO2-Toughened Alumina-Ceramics(ZTA) with Cr2O3 and HfO2 as addition were synthesized by assintering method for solid solution of Al2O3/Cr2O3 and ZrO2/HfO2, and were prepared by pressureless sintering at 1$600^{\circ}C$. The effects of Cr2O3 and HfO2 on the thermal and mechanical properties, the sintering mechanism, and the wearness between theory and experiment were investigated. Among three kinds of mechanisms such as stress-induced transformation, microcracking, and crack deflection it contributed to the ZTA system with a few exceptons according to composite. We show that wearness can be estimated sufficiently by HV and KIC through theory and experiment.

  • In order to fabricate solid electrolyte CaO-stabilized ZrO2 of high density sintered body economically 13 mol% CaO-stabilized ZrO2 powders were synthesized by the coprecipitation method. The characteristics and sintering behavior of fine powder were investigated. The precipitates has the specific surface area of 193 m2/g and apperaed to be fine and spherical primary particles with a size of approximately 5nm. The crystalliza-tion temperture of CaO-stabilized ZrO2 was 462$^{\circ}C$. The tetragonal phase was stable in the low calcining tempe-rature regions and the cubic zirconia solid solution was formed from above 120$0^{\circ}C$ through an intermediate stage of formation of CaZrO3 By introducing fine powders washed with alcohol and ball-milling process after calcination the sintered body was possible to attain the value of above 92% of the theoretical density at low temperature of 120$0^{\circ}C$.

마그네시아의 소결과 미세구조에 미치는 $TiO_2$의 영향 (Influence of $TiO_2$ on Sintering and Microstructure of Magnesia)

  • The influence of TiO2 addition on the sintering and microstructure of magnesia ceramics was studied. An excess amount of TiO2 over the solid solubility limit reacted with magnesia to form Mg2TiO4 compound above 130$0^{\circ}C$. The deviation of lattice parameter of MgO was estimated to be under 0.2% when existence of TiO2 in MgO. The addition of TiO2 markedly promoted the densification of MgO at comparatively low temperature and the sintered density of about 98% of the theorectical was obtained at 150$0^{\circ}C$, 2h. The densification was mainly governed by grain growth of MgO and the effect of Mg2TiO4 existing as a second phase on depression of grain growth of MgO was not exhibited.

  • The effects of flux KCl and dopants, La2O3 and Ta2O5, on the PTCR characteristics in molten salt synthesized BaTiO3 have been studied. The resistivity of BaTiO3 at room temperature decreases with increasing amount of dopant La2O3 up to 0.2 atom%, and then increases with La2O3 content. In case of dopant Ta2O5, it increases with increasing amount ofthe dopant. These results could be explained by observation of the microstructure and defect equation. From the results of complex impedance-frequency characteristics, the grain resistances are almost same but the resistances at the grain boundary are quite different.

  • ZnO varistor with composition of 89wt%-ZnO, 3.0wt%-$Bi_{2}O_{3}$, 3.6wt%-$Sb_{2}O_{3}$, 1.16wt%-CoO, 0.88wt%-NiO, 0.71wt%-$MnO_2$, 0.93wt%-$Cr_{2}O_{3}$, 0.013wt%-$Al_{2}O_{3}$ was fabricated by sintering methods. The effects of annealing on the J-E characteristics of ZnO varistors were investigated. These changes of electric properties were found to be caused by the variation of grains and grain boundary related to annealing. And the conductive mechanism and micostructure of ZnO varistor were researched using I-V meter, SEM and XRD.

  • Dielectric properties and the stability of the perovskite phase in the Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3 system have been investigated as a function of amount of BaTiO3 and firing temperature. In the specimens fired at 120$0^{\circ}C$, the pyrochlore phase was eliminated by the addition of 10-15m/o BaTiO3 and also the dielectric constant increased. However, the dielectric constant decreased with further addition of BaTiO3 even though no pyrochlore phase was found to be present. The reducing tendency of the pyrochlore phase decreased with lowering the firing temperature in the system of Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3 with BaTiO3. Dielectric properties in PMN ceramics were affected by the character of the BaTiO3 rather than the pyrochlore phase.

The Effect of Alkali Metal Ions on Nucleophilic Substitution Reactions of p- and m-Nitrophenyl 2-Thiophenenates with Alkali Metal Ethoxides in Absolute Ethanol

  • Rate constants have been measured spectrophotometrically for the reactions of p-and m-nitrophenyl 2-thiophenecarboxylate (5a and 5b, respectively) with alkali metal ethoxides (EtO-M+) in absolute ethanol at 25.0±0.1 ℃. The reactivity of EtO-M+ exhibits dependence on the size of alkali metal ions, i.e. the reactivity of EtO-M+ toward 5a decreases in the order EtO-K+ ≥ EtO-Na+ > EtO-Li+ > EtO-, while the one toward 5b does in the order EtO-Na+ ≥ EtO-K+ > EtO-Li+ > EtO-. This result indicates that ion paired EtO-M+ is more reactive than dissociated EtO-, and alkali metal ions form complexes with the substrate more strongly at the transition state than at the ground state. The catalytic effect shown by alkali metal ions appears to be less significant in the reaction of 5 than in the corresponding reaction of 4, indicating that complexation of alkali metal ions with 5 is not as strong as the one with 4.
