  • Vision-based scene understanding is to infer and interpret the context of a scene based on the evidences by analyzing the images. A probabilistic approach using Bayesian networks is actively researched, which is favorable for modeling and inferencing cause-and-effects. However, it is difficult to gather meaningful evidences sufficiently and design the model by human because the real situations are dynamic and uncertain. In this paper, we propose a learning method of Bayesian network that reduces the computational complexity and enhances the accuracy by searching an efficient BN structure in spite of insufficient evidences and training data. This method represents the domain knowledge as ontology and builds an efficient hierarchical BN structure under constraint rules that come from the ontology. To evaluate the proposed method, we have collected 90 images in nine types of circumstances. The result of experiments indicates that the proposed method shows good performance in the uncertain environment in spite of few evidences and it takes less time to learn.

  • One commonly used approach to deal with uncertainty is Bayesian network which represents joint probability distributions of domain. There are some attempts to team the structure of Bayesian networks automatically and recently many researchers design structures of Bayesian network using evolutionary algorithm. However, most of them use the only one fittest solution in the last generation. Because it is difficult to combine all the important factors into a single evaluation function, the best solution is often biased and less adaptive. In this paper, we present a method of generating diverse Bayesian network structures through fitness sharing and combining them by Bayesian method for adaptive inference. In order to evaluate performance, we conduct experiments on learning Bayesian networks with artificially generated data from ASIA and ALARM networks. According to the experiments with diverse conditions, the proposed method provides with better robustness and adaptation for handling uncertainty.

  • Background: The causal networks among genes that are commonly expressed in osteoblasts and during bone metastasis (BM) of breast cancer (BC) are not well understood. Here, we developed a machine learning method to obtain a plausible causal network of genes that are commonly expressed during BM and in osteoblasts in BC. Methods: We selected BC genes that are commonly expressed during BM and in osteoblasts from the Gene Expression Omnibus database. Bayesian Network Inference with Java Objects (Banjo) was used to obtain the Bayesian network. Genes registered as BC related genes were included as candidate genes in the implementation of Banjo. Next, we obtained the Bayesian structure and assessed the prediction rate for BM, conditional independence among nodes, and causality among nodes. Furthermore, we reported the maximum relative risks (RRs) of combined gene expression of the genes in the model. Results: We mechanistically identified 33 significantly related and plausibly involved genes in the development of BC BM. Further model evaluations showed that 16 genes were enough for a model to be statistically significant in terms of maximum likelihood of the causal Bayesian networks (CBNs) and for correct prediction of BM of BC. Maximum RRs of combined gene expression patterns showed that the expression levels of UBIAD1, HEBP1, BTNL8, TSPO, PSAT1, and ZFP36L2 significantly affected development of BM from BC. Conclusions: The CBN structure can be used as a reasonable inference network for accurately predicting BM in BC.

  • Microarray data, obtained from DNA chip technologies, is the measurement of the expression level of thousands of genes in cells or tissues. It is used for gene function prediction or cancer diagnosis based on gene expression patterns. Among diverse methods for data analysis, the Bayesian network represents the relationships among data attributes in the form of a graph structure. This property enables us to discover various relations among genes and the characteristics of the tissue (e.g., the cancer type) through microarray data analysis. However, most of the present microarray data sets are so sparse that it is difficult to apply general analysis methods, including Bayesian networks, directly. In this paper, we harness an efficient structural learning algorithm and data dimensionality reduction in order to analyze microarray data using Bayesian networks. The proposed method was applied to the analysis of real microarray data, i.e., the NC160 data set. And its usefulness was evaluated based on the accuracy of the teamed Bayesian networks on representing the known biological facts.

  • It is show that increasing of aged and handicapped people requires development of Ubiquitous computing technique to offer the specialized service for handicapped-people. For this, we need a development of Context Awareness and Service Reasoning Technique that the technique is supplied interaction between user and U-environment instead of the old unilateral relation. The old research of context awareness needed probabilistic presentation model like a Bayesian Network based on expert Systems for recognize given circumstance by a domain of uncertain real world. In this article, we define a domain of disorder activity assistant service application and context model based on ontology in diversified environment and minimized intervention of user and developer. By use this context model, we apply the structure learning of Bayesian Network and decide the service and activity to development of application service for handicapped people. Finally, we define the proper Conditional Probability Table of the structured Bayesian Network and if random situation is given to user, then present state variable of Activity and Service by given Causal relation of Bayesian Network based on Conditional Probability Table and it can be result of context awareness.

  • Image halftoning is a technique for varying grayscale images into two-tone binary images. Unfortunately, the static representation of an image-half toning, wherever each pixel intensity is combined by its local neighbors only, causes missing subjective problem. Also, the existing noise causes an instability criterion. In this paper an image half-toning is represented as a dynamical system for recognizing the global representation. Also, noise is reduced based on a probabilistic model. Since image half-toning is considered as 2-D matrix with a full connected pass, this structure is recognized by the dynamical system of Cellular Neural Networks (CNNs) which is defined by its template. Bayesian Rough Sets is used in exploiting the ideal CNNs construction that synthesis its dynamic. Also, Bayesian rough sets contribute to enhance the quality of the halftone image by removing noise and discovering the effective parameters in the CNNs template. The novelty of this method lies in finding a probabilistic based technique to discover the term of CNNs template and define new learning rules for CNNs internal work. A numerical experiment is conducted on image half-toning corrupted by Gaussian noise.

  • Information collected on mobile devices might be utilized to support user's memory, but it is difficult to effectively retrieve them because of the enormous amount of information. In order to organize information as an episodic approach that mimics human memory for the effective search, it is required to detect important event like landmarks. For providing new services with users, in this paper, we propose the prediction model to find landmarks automatically from various context log information based on attributed Bayesian networks. The data are divided into daily and weekly ones, and are categorized into attributes according to the source, to learn the Bayesian networks for the improvement of landmark prediction. The experiments on the Nokia log data showed that the Bayesian method outperforms SVMs, and the proposed attributed Bayesian networks are superior to the Bayesian networks modelled daily and weekly.

  • This study presents an ensemble learning based Bayesian model updating approach for structural damage diagnosis. In the developed framework, the structure is initially decomposed into a set of substructures. The autoregressive moving average (ARMAX) model is established first for structural damage localization based structural motion equation. The wavelet packet decomposition is utilized to extract the damage-sensitive node energy in different frequency bands for constructing structural surrogate models. Four methods, including Kriging predictor (KRG), radial basis function neural network (RBFNN), support vector regression (SVR), and multivariate adaptive regression splines (MARS), are selected as candidate structural surrogate models. These models are then resampled by bootstrapping and combined to obtain an ensemble model by probabilistic ensemble. Meanwhile, the maximum entropy principal is adopted to search for new design points for sample space updating, yielding a more robust ensemble model. Through the iterations, a framework of surrogate ensemble learning based model updating with high model construction efficiency and accuracy is proposed. The specificities of the method are discussed and investigated in a case study.

  • In the field of computer vision, visual surveillance systems have recently become an important research topic. Growth in this area is being driven by both the increase in the availability of inexpensive computing devices and image sensors as well as the general inefficiency of manual surveillance and monitoring. In particular, the ultimate goal for many visual surveillance systems is to provide automatic activity recognition for events at a given site. A higher level of understanding of these activities requires certain lower-level computer vision tasks to be performed. So in this paper, we propose an intelligent activity recognition model that uses a structure learning method and a classification method. The structure learning method is provided as a K2-learning algorithm that generates Bayesian networks of causal relationships between sensors for a given activity. The statistical characteristics of the sensor values and the topological characteristics of the generated graphs are learned for each activity, and then a neural network is designed to classify the current activity according to the features extracted from the multiple sensor values that have been collected. Finally, the proposed method is implemented and tested by using PETS2013 benchmark data.

  • In a centralized control structure, the software defined network controller manages all openflow enabled switched in a data plane and controls the telecommunication between all hosts. In addition, the network manager can easily deploy the network function to the application layer with a software defined network controller. For this reason, many methods for network management using a software defined network concept have been proposed. The main policies for network management are related to traffic Quality of Service and resource management. In order to provide Quality of Service and load distribution for network users, we propose an efficient routing method using a naive bayesian algorithm and transmission delay estimation module. In this method, the forwarding path is decided by flow class and estimated transmission delay result in the software defined network controller. With this method, the load on the network node can be distributed to improve overall network performance. The network user also gets better dynamic Quality of Service.
