정규 혼합분포를 이용한 준지도 학습 (Semi-Supervised Learning by Gaussian Mixtures)

  • 혼합모형을 이용한 판별분석은 다중 분류문제를 해결하는데 유용한 방법으로서 준지도 학습으로 확장될 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 정규 혼합분포를 이용한 준지도 학습 방법에서 혼합 모형의 하위 구성요소 개수 선택 기준을 연구하고자 한다. 하위 구성요소 선택 기준으로서 베이지안 정보량을 사용하였고 모의실험을 통해 이 방법의 유용성을 규명하였다.

  • Due to the additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN), images are often corrupted. In recent days, Bayesian estimation techniques to recover noisy images in the wavelet domain have been studied. The probability density function (PDF) of an image in wavelet domain can be described using highly-sharp head and long-tailed shapes. If a priori probability density function having the above properties would be applied well adaptively, better results could be obtained. There were some frequently proposed PDFs such as Gaussian, Laplace distributions, and so on. These functions model the wavelet coefficients satisfactorily and have its own of characteristics. In this paper, mixture distributions of Gaussian and Laplace distribution are proposed, which attempt to corporate these distributions' merits. Such mixture model will be used to remove the noise in images by adopting Maximum a Posteriori (MAP) estimation method. With respect to visual quality, numerical performance and computational complexity, the proposed technique gained better results.

의료 웹포럼에서의 텍스트 분석을 통한 정보적 지지 및 감성적 지지 유형의 글 분류 모델 (The Informative Support and Emotional Support Classification Model for Medical Web Forums using Text Analysis)

  • In the medical web forum, people share medical experience and information as patients and patents' families. Some people search medical information written in non-expert language and some people offer words of comport to who are suffering from diseases. Medical web forums play a role of the informative support and the emotional support. We propose the automatic classification model of articles in the medical web forum into the information support and emotional support. We extract text features of articles in web forum using text mining techniques from the perspective of linguistics and then perform supervised learning to classify texts into the information support and the emotional support types. We adopt the Support Vector Machine (SVM), Naive-Bayesian, decision tree for automatic classification. We apply the proposed model to the HealthBoards forum, which is also one of the largest and most dynamic medical web forum.

A Study on Risk Evaluation of Crime in the Seoul Metropolitan Area based on Poisson Regression Model

  • In this study, we identify the variables that affect the number of crime and spatial correlation in the Seoul metropolitan area, in addition, we measure the relative risk on the incidence of crime by a Poisson regression model. We suggest a statistical methodology to make a risk map for crime based on relative risk instead of the total event of crime by region using the Geographic Information System. To demonstrate the use and advantages of this methodology, this study presents an analyses of the total crime count in 25 wards in the Seoul metropolitan area.

  • 본 논문에서는 베이지안 기법을 이용한 비선형회귀모형의 선택법을 제안하였다. 베이즈요인에 기초한 이 방법은 주로 대표본의 경우에 이용되는 고전적 모형선택법에 비해 사전정보를 이용하는 측면과 비내포모형 및 소표본의 경우에 대해서도 효과적으로 사용될 수 있다는 장점을 가진다. 본 논문에서는 정보적 사전분포를 고려하였으며, 베이즈요인의 추정 방법으로 Laplace - Metropolis 추정 법을 제안하였다. 또한 MCMC 과정을 통해 추정된 모수의 수렴진단에 대해서도 고려하였다. 실제자료에 대한 최적의 모형선택 및 진단과정을 구체적으로 제시하였다.

Holstein 젖소의 선형심사형질과 등급형질에 대한 유전변이 추정 (Estimation of Genetic Variations for Linear Type Traits and Composite Traits on Holstein Cows)

  • Genetic parameters for linear type and composite traits were estimated by using Bayesian inference via Gibbs sampling with a multiple threshold animal model in Holstein cows. Fifteen linear type traits and 5 composite traits were included to estimate genetic variance and covariance components in the model. In this study, 30,204 records were obtained in the cows from 305 sires. Heritability estimates for linear type traits had the estimates as high as 0.28~0.64. Heritability estimates for composite traits were also high, when the traits were assumed to be categorical traits. Final score was more correlated with the composite traits than with the linear type traits.

선형예측을 이용한 EMG 신호처리에 관한 연구 (A Study on EMG Signal Processing Using Linear Prediction)

  • In this paper, the linear autoregressive model of EMG signal for four basic arm functions was presented and parameters for each function were estimated. The signal identification was carried out using function discrimination algorithm. It was validated that EMG signal was a widesense stationary process and the linear autoregressive model of EMG signal was constructed through approximating it to Gaussian process. It was confined that Levinson-Durbin algoridthm is a more appropriate one than the recursive least square method for parameter estimation of the linear model. Optimal function discrimination was acquired when sampling frequency was 500Hz and two electrodes were attached to bicep and tricep muscle, respectively. Parameter values were independent of variance and the number of minimum data for function discrimination was 200. Bayesian discrimination method turned out to be a better one than parallel filtering method for functional discrimination recognition.

Pullout capacity of small ground anchors: a relevance vector machine approach

  • This paper examines the potential of relevance vector machine (RVM) in prediction of pullout capacity of small ground anchors. RVM is based on a Bayesian formulation of a linear model with an appropriate prior that results in a sparse representation. The results are compared with a widely used artificial neural network (ANN) model. Overall, the RVM showed good performance and is proven to be better than ANN model. It also estimates the prediction variance. The plausibility of RVM technique is shown by its superior performance in forecasting pullout capacity of small ground anchors providing exogenous knowledge.

  • In this paper, we propose a reliability estimation method for DI&C systems. At the system level, a fault tree model is suggested and Boolean algebra is used to obtain the minimal cut sets. At the component level, an exponential distribution is used to model hardware failures, and Bayesian estimation is suggested to estimate the failure rate. Additionally, a binomial distribution is used to model software failures, and a recently developed software reliability estimation method is suggested to estimate the software failure rate. The overall system reliability is then estimated based on minimal cut sets, hardware failure rates and software failure rates.

Simultaneous modeling of mean and variance in small area estimation

  • When the sample size in a certain domain is too small to produce adequate information, small area model with random effects is usually used. Also, if we do not consider an inherent pattern which data possess, it considerably affects inference. In this paper, we mainly focus on modeling to handle increased variation of the Current Population Survey (CPS) median income as the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) mean income increases. In a hierarchical Bayesian framework, most estimations are carried out through the Gibbs sampler while the grid method is used to generate parameters from non-standard form. Numerical study indicates that the performance of proposed model is better than that of CPS method in terms of four comparison measurements.
