Machine Learning (ML) has become very popular within Data Mining (KDD) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) research and their applications. In the ML and KDD contexts, two main approaches can be used for inducing a Bayesian Network (BN) from data, namely, Conditional Independence (CI) and the Heuristic Search (HS). When a BN is induced for classification purposes (Bayesian Classifier - BC), it is possible to impose some specific constraints aiming at increasing the computational efficiency. In this paper a new CI based approach to induce BCs from data is proposed and two algorithms are presented. Such approach is based on the Markov Blanket concept in order to impose some constraints and optimize the traditional PC learning algorithm. Experiments performed with the ALARM, as well as other six UCI and three artificial domains revealed that the proposed approach tends to execute fewer comparison tests than the traditional PC. The experiments also show that the proposed algorithms produce competitive classification rates when compared with both, PC and Naive Bayes.
One-dimensional radar signature, such as range profile, is highly dependent on the aspect angle. Therefore, radar target recognition over wide angular region is a very difficult task. In this paper, we propose the Bayes classifier with Gaussian mixture model for radar target recognition over wide-angular region and compare performances of proposed technique and radar target recognition with subclasses concept in the literature of probability of correct classification ratio.
Purpose : This paper introduces a computationally inexpensive context-dependent classification of multi-echo MRI with Bayes compound decision model. In order to produce accurate region segmentation especially in homogeneous area and along boundaries of the regions, we propose a classification method that uses contextual information of local enighborhood system in the image. Material and Methods : The performance of the context free classifier over a statistically heterogeneous image can be improved if the local stationary regions in the image are disassociated from each other through the mechanism of the interaction parameters defined at he local neighborhood level. In order to improve the classification accuracy, we use the contextual information which resolves ambiguities in the class assignment of a pattern based on the labels of the neighboring patterns in classifying the image. Since the data immediately surrounding a given pixel is intimately associated with this given pixel., then if the true nature of the surrounding pixel is known this can be used to extract the true nature of the given pixel. The proposed context-dependent compound decision model uses the compound Bayes decision rule with the contextual information. As for the contextual information in the model, the directional transition probabilities estimated from the local neighborhood system are used for the interaction parameters. Results : The context-dependent classification paradigm with compound Bayesian model for multi-echo MR images is developed. Compared to context free classification which does not consider contextual information, context-dependent classifier show improved classification results especially in homogeneous and along boundaries of regions since contextual information is used during the classification. Conclusion : We introduce a new paradigm to classify multi-echo MRI using clustering analysis and Bayesian compound decision model to improve the classification results.

Nowadays, SMS spam has been overflowing in many countries. In fact, the standards of filtering SMS spam are different from country to country. However, the current technologies and researches about SMS spam filtering all focus on dividing SMS message into two classes: legitimate and illegitimate. It does not conform to the actual situation and need. Furthermore, they are facing several difficulties, such as: (1) High quality and large-scale SMS spam corpus is very scarce, fine categorized SMS spam corpus is even none at all. This seriously handicaps the researchers' studies. (2) The limited length of SMS messages lead to lack of enough features. These factors seriously degrade the performance of the traditional classifiers (such as SVM, K-NN, and Bayes). In this paper, we present a new fine categorized SMS spam corpus which is unique and the largest one as far as we know. In addition, we propose a classifier, which is based on the probability topic model. The classifier can alleviate feature sparse problem in the task of SMS spam filtering. Moreover, we compare the approach with three typical classifiers on the new SMS spam corpus. The experimental results show that the proposed approach is more effective for the task of SMS spam filtering.
Semantic interpretation of the relationship between noun compound (NC) elements has been a challenging issue due to the lack of contextual information, the unbounded number of combinations, and the absence of a universally accepted system for the categorization. The current models require a huge corpus of data to extract contextual information, which limits their usage in many situations. In this paper, a new semantic relations interpreter for NCs based on novel lightweight binary features is proposed. Some of the binary features used are novel. In addition, the interpreter uses a new feature selection method. By developing these new features and techniques, the proposed method removes the need for any huge corpuses. Implementing this method using a modular and plugin-based framework, and by training it using the largest and the most current fine-grained data set, shows that the accuracy is better than that of previously reported upon methods that utilize large corpuses. This improvement in accuracy and the provision of superior efficiency is achieved not only by improving the old features with such techniques as semantic scattering and sense collocation, but also by using various novel features and classifier max entropy. That the accuracy of the max entropy classifier is higher compared to that of other classifiers, such as a support vector machine, a Na$\ddot{i}$ve Bayes, and a decision tree, is also shown.

This paper proposes an emotion classifier from EEG signals based on Bayes' theorem and a machine learning using a perceptron convergence algorithm. The emotions are represented on the valence and arousal dimensions. The fast Fourier transform spectrum analysis is used to extract features from the EEG signals. To verify the proposed method, we use an open database for emotion analysis using physiological signal (DEAP) and compare it with C-SVC which is one of the support vector machines. An emotion is defined as two-level class and three-level class in both valence and arousal dimensions. For the two-level class case, the accuracy of the valence and arousal estimation is 67% and 66%, respectively. For the three-level class case, the accuracy is 53% and 51%, respectively. Compared with the best case of the C-SVC, the proposed classifier gave 4% and 8% more accurate estimations of valence and arousal for the two-level class. In estimation of three-level class, the proposed method showed a similar performance to the best case of the C-SVC.
This article performs a detailed data scrutiny on a chronic kidney disease (CKD) dataset to select efficient instances and relevant features. Data relevancy is investigated using feature extraction, hybrid outlier detection, and handling of missing values. Data instances that do not influence the target are removed using data envelopment analysis to enable reduction of rows. Column reduction is achieved by ranking the attributes through feature selection methodologies, namely, extra-trees classifier, recursive feature elimination, chi-squared test, analysis of variance, and mutual information. These methodologies are ranked via Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) using weight optimization to identify the optimal features for model building from the CKD dataset to facilitate better prediction while diagnosing the severity of the disease. An efficient hybrid ensemble and novel similarity-based classifiers are built using the pruned dataset, and the results are thereafter compared with random forest, AdaBoost, naive Bayes, k-nearest neighbors, and support vector machines. The hybrid ensemble classifier yields a better prediction accuracy of 98.31% for the features selected by extra tree classifier (ETC), which is ranked as the best by TOPSIS.

We consider the problem of exploiting a taxonomy of propositionalized attributes in order to learn compact and robust classifiers. We introduce Propositionalized Attribute Taxonomy guided Naive Bayes Learner (PAT-NBL), an inductive learning algorithm that exploits a taxonomy of propositionalized attributes as prior knowledge to generate compact and accurate classifiers. PAT-NBL uses top-down and bottom-up search to find a locally optimal cut that corresponds to the instance space from propositionalized attribute taxonomy and data. Our experimental results on University of California-Irvine (UCI) repository data sets show that the proposed algorithm can generate a classifier that is sometimes comparably compact and accurate to those produced by standard Naive Bayes learners.

Social bookmarking systems are a typical web 2.0 service based on folksonomy, providing the platform for storing and sharing bookmarking information. Spammers in social bookmarking systems denote the users who abuse the system for their own interests in an improper way. They can make the entire resources in social bookmarking systems useless by posting lots of wrong information. Hence, it is important to detect spammers as early as possible and protect social bookmarking systems from their attack. In this paper, we applied a diverse set of machine learning approaches, i.e., decision tables, decision trees (ID3), $na{\ddot{i}}ve$ Bayes classifiers, TAN (tree-augment $na{\ddot{i}}ve$ Bayes) classifiers, and artificial neural networks to this task. In our experiments, $na{\ddot{i}}ve$ Bayes classifiers performed significantly better than other methods with respect to the AUC (area under the ROC curve) score as veil as the model building time. Plausible explanations for this result are as follows. First, $na{\ddot{i}}ve$> Bayes classifiers art known to usually perform better than decision trees in terms of the AUC score. Second, the spammer detection problem in our experiments is likely to be linearly separable.
